The Blues Brothers (1980)
The ultimate feel-good roadshow picture...
Gather your friends, turn up the speakers, and hit play. With "The Blues Brothers," you're in for the ride of your life.
This film has it all. The amazing car chases, the hilarious yet subtlely dry humor, the nostalgic trademark suits and Blues-mobile, perfectly acted memorable characters, and the greatest musical performances ever captured on film. I just can't express how cool this movie is. Its the perfect film to sit back and watch with your buddies on a Saturday afternoon.
It'll make you want to dance.
9/10 (Because no film is perfect, but this comes pretty close)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Ignorance is bliss...
I love this movie. (Please read, this is not your typical review) =c)>
I admit, "The Fellowship of the Ring" is not the best movie ever made. It has it's flaws, it strays from the book. But, I must admit, it is a very good movie. One of my favorites.
Here are some things I have noticed from the people I know, who review this movie:
A) "I didn't like the ending..." Hmmm, how many times have you heard this? I don't get it. How can you judge the ending, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET. "The Return of the King" is the ending. Unlike "Indiana Jones," "Star Wars," and any others, "The Fellowship of the Ring" is NOT a stand alone film. I'm sorry it isn't. It is the first third of a massive story. Do not judge the film based on the first third.
B) "Well, if this is the first third of the movie, how come they don't release it all together? Aren't they just trying to make more money by turning it into THREE films?" How bout this as an answer: Would YOU wanna sit in a theater for 10 hours watching one movie? I don't think so.
C) "It is too different from the book." Well duh. Of course they have to change some things, that is the entire point of cinema. It is an interpretation of a writing. May it start as a book, or a script, movies are always an interpretation of one form of writing. I have yet to see a film that is EXACTLY like the shooting script.
D) "There is not emotion. It is just based on special effects." If you don't feel the emotion, read the book. Even the image of Sauron touched me emotionally. After reading the book, you know SO much about the characters, their desires, their pasts, their futures, etc. (Which is something that can NEVER be completely realized on film), that the book is like a companion to the film. They work together to form an emotional bond. And, about the special effects? How else are you gonna make the creatures and landscapes look like Middle Earth? Are you gonna breed REAL orcs and trolls? No, of course not. The Special effects in the film are neccassary to move the story along. Without the special effects, Tolkeins most memorable scenes could have never been created.
Ok, so there are a few things I've noticed. So please, keep these in mind. This is a very good film, I have no doubt about it.
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
"Army of Little China: Jack Burton Vs. Ash" a Carpenter and Raimi film...
I love this movie, it's got great swordfights, chases, gunfights, and martial arts. The four components of a good action movie. Plus, the comedy makes it even more watchable. The villains are awesome, the one liners are hilarious, and the always cool Kurt Russell as John Wayne as Jack Burton. Okay, so its cheesy, but who cares? Its frikkin awesome!
If you enjoyed "Big Trouble," go see "Army of Darkness," another great movie.
Witchblade (2000)
One of the biggest rip-offs of The Matrix I've ever seen...
Bullets that make ripples in the air as they fly, A mysterious man teaching the main character that 'they are the chosen one,' a final battle that takes place in a subway with the villain punching through concrete pillars. No, its not The Matrix, it's Witchblade. This movie was very boring, filled with incredibly cheesy moments and mediocre gun battles. This movie was such a rip-off, I was laughing throughout the entire movie. You might want to watch it just for the laughs.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Who is Keyser Soze?
This was an incredibly cool film, with great characters and a great plot. One of its best points is the frightening villain, Keyser Soze, who is never truly seen, but still brings a chilling and mysterious tone to the movie. I have heard many call this film boring, which could be true since the film is literally talking. But, when you think of the 'jobs' that the team pull off throughout the movie, such as an ambush on a taxi service of crooked cops, an attack against a rich man and his two bodyguards, and one of my all time favorite action sequences, an all scale assault on the boat (Including McManus with a sniper rifle, Hockney with a machine gun, and Keaton with two automatic pistols). This film has such great characters, you can always find a favorite. There is also some comedy ("Big fat guy, I mean like Orca fat.") thrown in to keep you interested. Overall, this film is one of my favorites, and is a must see.
