Capote (2005)
Genius acting!
What can I say that has not been already said about the talent that is Philip Seymour Hoffman?
This guy can act the socks off anyone around the film world today, he is calm, imminently watchable and totally mesmeric.
The voice that everyone has spoken of does not bother me at all, if anyone had heard what the real Truman Capote sounded like, you would clearly see that Mr Hoffman has toned it down considerably, the real mans voice was hysterical.
I just loved Hoffman, descend into self pity waiting for the killer to die so that he could publish his book, even though the central character is completely unlikeable, Hoffman;s performance is what keeps you caring and keeps you watching.
I would call this a modern classic.
Puritan (2005)
Deveilishly Clever Film! Alan Moore would love this movie!
I am yet another one of the fans from the Frightfest Film Festival, saw Puritan on Monday, and it blew me away.
It looks like a Victorian film, dark and shadowy, and has all the elements of DC's Vertigo comics.
All those Alan Moore adaptations we have had that have hit the big screen have been truly dire, but this film, obviously not written by Moore but newcomer Hadi Hajaig, is the kind of film that has the feel of those graphic novels.
Its intricate in its design, gorgeous in its mise en scene, and devilishly clever in its final act delivery.
The cast are cool, Moran who acted in lock stock, a film i did not enjoy at all, was excellent, David Soul was sooo good as the menacing self help guru, but it is the new talent that is Georgina Rylance that steals their thunder, she is like a more beautiful Kristin Scott Thomas.
If I had any criticism it is that it didn't explain itself enough at the end, but I guess that is a good thing as we can try to mull over all the various plot details.
A great shot in the arm for the Independent British Film industry, who only seem to make moronic gangster films. It really inspired me.
Making the Grade (1984)
I love this movie.
I love this movie man, judd nelson who never really took off after m,aking this film, is great in this as the street smart kid shaking up the establishment in old fashioned college.
The coach of the team is also very funny, and some of the lines are greatest that I have ever heard.
Watching this film takes me back to the 80's, its what teen comedies were all about, the absolutely awful 80's fashion, the hairstyles, the synth score that just is washed all over the film, I just love this stuff.
if you want to get back to your missed youth, and reminisce about the old days, get this, this essential 80's viewing that should be on the shelf with the breakfast club and all the rest, man I love this film.
If you guys haven't seen, find it and slot it into your DVD player and, sit back and enjoy.
