Kick-Ass (2010)
Not Funny, Not Original. Lame-ass
Several things are wrong with this movie. I remember it being promoted as a comedy yet there was absolutely nothing funny about it. I noticed many of the negative reviewers gave it a bad rating due to the violence. I'm a sunshine and rainbows type girl but the violence didn't bother me a bit. No movie should get a bad rating just based on that. The reason I gave it one star is because the story was unoriginal and boring. The main guy, "Kick Ass," does nothing beyond helping a guy that was getting beat up by a gang. That's it. Late in the movie he tells his girlfriend that he has to "go do some Kick-Ass stuff." I was left thinking, "and just what exactly would that be?" He's only in a couple fights and gets the crap beat out of him. How does that make him a "Kick ass" super-hero? What was also annoying was how the movie kept zooming in on his face as he pondered deeply about who knows what. The character everyone seems to like is a little girl that's more brave and fights much better than our nerdy superhero. Oh yeah, she also swears and for some reason people seem to think that's awesome. At no point in the movie did I actually believe an 11 year old would talk or act like she did. The only group of people who would be amused by this are teenage boys, who shouldn't be seeing the movie anyway since it's rated R. I expected this movie to be good. Don't waste your time on it.
There Will Be Blood (2007)
Waste of 2.5 hours!
This movie is like listening to a monotone speaker talk for over two hours about nothing particularly interesting or useful. It never built up to anything exciting or dramatic. I kept looking at the time thinking "Ok it's been 45 minutes (one hour...two hours), something interesting is sure to happen soon," but it never did. I guess you're supposed to be interested in watching the main character very slowly spiral down into a magnificent A-hole. That's all he is; there's nothing disturbing about it. It didn't make me think about human nature or greed or disappointment. It won't push you to think at all. Please do something much more worthwhile with your 2 and a half hours!
Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
Boring
This movie sucks for the following reasons: 1. Max, the main character, comes off as a bratty, impulsive, manic child. I think he's a child anyway. For the first 30 minutes of the movie he growls more than he speaks. Perhaps this type of crazy is normal for a young boy, but I've never been one so I can't relate to his roller coaster emotions or behaviors. 2. It seems that "having a plot" was left off the list of things to put in this movie. Here's a quick rundown. The whole adventure begins when Max gets angry, growls, then bites his mother. (See, he IS part animal) He runs away and sails to the island where the wild things are. We first see one of the wild things, in a fit of rage, destroying the wild things' houses/huts. Why is he doing this? Who knows. After watching for awhile Max decides to do some house wrecking himself and runs out and begins destroying the huts too. The wild things are first a bit intrigued by him, then decide to eat him. Max tells them that they can't eat him because he's a king, and they believe him. So now we know they're wild and not too bright either. As king, Max has ideas about building a big fort (yawn) and having him and the wild things sleep in a big pile on each other (??) Things don't go according to plan because the wild things have their own issues of jealousy, hurt, anger, and disappointment between each other. Then they find out he isn't really a king and one of the wild things threatens to eat him. This, coupled with the chaotic state of affairs on the island, pushes Max to do what he does best when things aren't going his way, run away. He gets back in his boat and goes home. He walks in and hugs his mother; no words are said. The end. This leads us to number 3. Why is there no resolution to the conflicts in this movie? Max never confronts the issues that led him to run away in the first place and the wild things are left just as dysfunctional (if not more so) than when Max first met them. So we have no plot, mixed in with scenes of Max walking through bare sand lands with the wild things, and no resolution. This movie did, however, highlight one important fact of life. One must always have a plan of escape to use in case things in life get a bit dicey. Sure, confronting your raging emotions will probably lead to a better outcome in the future but it's just so much easier to simply run away, physically or emotionally. In addition to always having a plan of escape, it is imperative that you have someone else to blame for all your shortcomings and failures when escape isn't an option. This wasn't mentioned in the movie but it's good advice none the less. Arm yourself with these two things and you'll always have an easy way out of a situation. Overall, this movie was extremely boring.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Is it OK to be Christian and still find this boring?
I'm sure many of the comments on here are biased by personal beliefs. Fundamentalists will give it a 10, those critical to Christianity, probably a 1 or 2. I grew up Christian going to church every Sunday and so my beliefs today are that Jesus is the greatest human ever. That being said, the movie was bad. There didn't seem to be any context. Since I already knew the story well I knew all the characters and how they fit into the situation. However, if I didn't already know this, I would have been lost watching this movie. The beginning was boring, and then it got gory. I couldn't be bored once I was absolutely mortified about what we did to people back then. I left that movie feeling awful, and hating the people that did that to Him. And no not the Jews! The people laughing at His misery are who I hated. I'm pretty sure that's not how Jesus wants me to feel toward anyone though. Everyone else left completely silent, probably feeling bad too. It's been 2 years and I still have dreams about this movie and wake up feeling guilty! If it sent the message that Jesus willingly went through that whole thing because He loved us so much then I think it'd be good, but it didn't really emphasize that part. He spent years teaching love and peace and all we focus on is His horrible death! Only thing it did for me was give me a greater respect for what He went through. On a side note, the way Satan is portrayed is awesome! Not that Satan is awesome.
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
For the love of God don't see this.
I'd give this a negative rating if I could. I went into this movie not expecting much, but I had an open mind. The whole thing is stupid! The snakes are obviously fake and the first two things they bite are a boob and a guys johnson. Oh how original; if I were a 12 year old boy I might laugh at that. I have no idea how this movie became so popular. Seriously, the worst thing I've ever seen. I wasn't entertained, it wasn't funny,I wasn't even bored! I wasn't anything. It wasn't even so bad it was good, it's just bad. Ridiculous actually. Please do not waste your money on this movie. Don't even rent this movie. No clue how it's getting such a high rating.
