Knock Knock (2015)
Complete waste of time.
"Teenagers run the world" would have been a more appropriate title. The 2 women perform the devils work with absolutely no consequences. If you're waiting for vindication, the movie will leave you flat. Not a typical Eli Roth film, as our villain's stroll off into the sunset.
The plot is ridiculous, the acting sub-par and Reeve's character is unbelievably gut-less. Boobies don't carry movies. Next.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
A truly stupid movie
Shame, considering I'm a Val Kilmer fan. Not going to deep dive into the plot, as it's all been said. The movie is full of snappy one-liners, which is what we have grown to expect from RDJ flicks. The plot twists and turns only occur in the last 10 minutes.
If you enjoy "see how cool my character" is movies, this is for you. If you're looking for good acting, character development and a well written story, keep browsing.
Straw Dogs (2011)
The movie kept my interest, but I found 3 fatal flaws. (Contains Spoilers)
1. We never found out who killed the cat. It was only assumed.
2. When the house burned down @ the end of the movie, what became of the injured guy with the compound fracture?
3. Why didn't our heroine never tell her husband she was raped? That would have made for a better vengeance-style ending.
The story was good, but the acting was nothing special. Nobody other than James Woods did a memorable job. The lighting sucked and our hero was wimpish, even as he killed people.
The movie also depicted everyone in the south are rednecks. While they do exist in force, only the cop seemed to act "normal".
I'm going to find and watch the original, it had to be better.
The Counselor (2013)
Very Good Movie
To me, this movie was what "Savages" should have been. The acting was superb, including Cameron Diaz who was critically roasted. Javier Bardem did an exceptional job of coming across as both street smart and vulnerable. Fassbender's scene when he received the DVD was exceptional. You could literally see the wave of emotions hit him prior to his breakdown. The only aspect I felt was unrealistic was the relationship between Fassbender and Cruz. He simply didn't convey the sense of urgency when things went south. I realize he tried to remain cool for her sake, but his level of calm was Bond-like. I don't blame his delivery. I blame the writing. Diaz was both sexy and cruel. Her line "I don't believe the truth has a temperature" was awesome. She delivered her lines with that belief. I won't bother getting into the "what was meant by this line or scene" dialog. Anyone can pick a movie apart line for line. Taken as a whole, it was a well-done movie. Brad Pitt did a good job as usual. I wish Bruno Ganz (Diamond dealer) had a larger role. His portrayal of Hitler in "Downfall" is a five-star performance.
American Hustle (2013)
Bashing not needed ..... Contains Spoilers
I do not agree with the popular vote on this one. The acting was not bad. The movie simply didn't have heavy hitters in the line-up. I do not know why the Casting Director filled the line-up with B actors. Christian Bale was in over his head. However, he did a good job expressing his love for Adams. His role would have been better served by Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP).
Bradley Cooper did the best job, IMO. The scene where he restrained himself from having sex with Amy Adams was completely believable. Cooper did a great job trying to put the "thing" together, but he seemed to lose steam towards the end. I'm thinking Andy Garcia would have been a better choice.
Both ladies did a fine job. In fact, they out did their make counter- parts in many scenes.
I thought the movie ran a bit long, but kept my attention none the less. In an era filled with CGI and Science Fiction, I thought this movie was a refreshing change.
Chuck & Buck (2000)
Compelling, with obvious flaws.
I don't feel to rehash what has already been said. I enjoyed the movie because I was eager to see what happens next. However, I felt there were two fatal flaws. When Buck first called Chuck, he left a message on his answering machine, using an 805 area code. 805 is a Ventura County area code which is a 45 min drive to Los Angeles. The move depicted Bucks trip as long distance.
More importantly, when the real Buck began to surface, Chuck had no dialog with his wife about the strangeness. He let her discover Buck on her own, which is completely unrealistic. As a married man, I know I would have a lot of explaining to do.
I didn't care for the cinematography either. Many scenes were grainy and yellowish looking. Despite it all, I found the movie to be original and well conceived.
The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (1976)
Good story with good acting, but ...
I will make my review very short and to the point.
I enjoyed the story and small cast of characters. However, the movie was too predictable and completely void of character development. Two people meet, become lovers, deal with a troubled teen...end of story.
Though the boy's mother was lonely after her husband passed way, I thought she was depicted as "too easy". After a single date, the sailor smiled at her ...cut to the sex scenes. This is not typical behavior for a woman who was presented as "fine English upper class", living in a mansion over looking the sea. If the movie had depicted her loneliness through a couple of masturbation/alone and crying scenes, it would have been more believable.
However, the movie did a fine job focusing on how a third wheel can derail a relationships, how impressionable youth are, etc. It also did a good job of revealing what atrocities young boys are capable of, especially when trying to become a man in the eyes of his peers.
Thirty more minutes of character development would have gone a long way. I'll give it a 2.5 out of 5.
The Land That Time Forgot (2009)
Too many goofs to name......but here's my list....enjoy!
This movie is simply pathetic. Words can not express how poorly this movie was made. I watched it with my teenage daughter. Here are some of the things we noticed as we laughed through it.
1. The Island contains roads. Who built them? 2. Why are the T-Rex's always hiding in the same place? 3. The male character in the blue shirt is always freshly shaved, the
rest of the men, including the Germans are scruffy. 4. When the team of men went into the cave, their torch apparently lit
itself. 5. The dinosaurs do not leave footprints, nor do they kick up dirt/dust
as they walk. 6. When the first man dies, you can clearly see he is bloody before he
hits the ground from his fall. 7. When the skipper fills the water jug, you can see water spilling out
of it as he runs. When he stops running, the bottle is corked. 8. The blonde woman speaks about ten words after she is rescued. 9. When the men were hiding in the cave, they had several minutes to
rescue the blonde women who was tied up. For whatever reason, they
waited behind cover for her captures to return before making their
move. 10.The brunette actress has perfect make-up, hair and clothes through
the entire movie. Everyone else looks dirty. 11.The crew used Christmas lights to test the generator. Where did they
come from? 12.The man in the blue and white stripped shirt was eaten by a T-Rex,
and cut in half, though there was no blood during his death scene. 13.The submarine had enough power (in reverse) to un-beach itself and
return to the water.
That movie was 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
