Shôgun (2024)
Samurai game of thrones
If you haven't already. Watch the first episode. The production value alone will get you hooked.
So many stories to follow. So many characters to love and to hate and to root for or boo at.
It's been a while since I've watched something from the fresh start of its inception, and had to wait a week for the next episode. The wait is always worth it. Its shocking, its funny, it's sad and courageous. The team of writers are on point at keeping you guessing what's going to happen!? Who is that!? What are they going to do!?
The cinematography and sets/visuals are beautifully stunning. They have captured a real and wild Japan both in the cities and the countryside, the towns, the buildings, the savagery and the beauty. At times it can be brutally harsh then in an instant vulnerable and soft.
If you don't like subtitles at least give it a try. Mainly spoken of Japanese, there are moments of English, though in reality they are supposed to be speaking Portuguese.
Disney. You've finally done something good. But I think it was actually FX.
The Grey (2011)
Good to watch and make fun of
Watch this when you are in a silly mood and want to take the piss. The acting isn't too bad in some parts but that's its only saving grace. I thought at first it was going to be a satire and be a bit like Dog Soldiers, but that was quickly quashed when it started taking itself too seriously. Its seems like the writer and director had two totally different had two different stories to tell. Basically its a man fest. A sausage party. A prostate posse. Its a comedy more than anything else. Enjoy it that way. Just make sure you bring enough beer or cider or vodka or absinthe. Whatever poison you choose.
Inside Man (2022)
I never give a 1 star but this was close
The only reason this is worth watching is to get drunk and laugh AT it. I don't know how this 'writer' keeps getting commissioned. Does he think himself as clever? Coz he seems to think all his extremely unclever characters are! I have had the absolute misfortune to be forced into watching this, but in a morbid way I couldn't stop. Until I found my phone and decided to write a review about what was making my eyes dry up and bleed. Nothing makes sense. Everything could have been avoided if any of the characters were actually intelligent. No one is likable. The directing is a masterclass in how not to direct, which explains why this director has a terrible repertoire. Watch it to take the piss. Don't watch it if you are sober.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Okay. Wouldn't bother again
I didn't go in expecting much from this except that it would possibly be mildly entertaining and have a decent cast, and that is exactly what I got. Script was okay, shots were fine and CGI was obvious. Acting was very good but it left me with the feeling that Kenneth Branagh was just fishing for Oscar nominations, with far too many extreme close up shots of teary eyed characters. Emma Mackey absolutely stole the show, but that was to be expected. Very over the top use of numerous jump scares which was totally unnecessary, possibly put in through post production after realising that a lot of people would be bored of just watching Murder On The Orient Express again, only Nile style. Don't bother watching it in the cinema, just wait a year and find it on the shelf in Poundland.
Naruto (2002)
naruto
Naruto has to be the greatest anime series on the whole world, it has it all comedy, drama and jaw dropping good action fight scenes. the best fight has to be the fight between naruto and sasuke in the valley of the end, the detail put into making that fight alone must have taken weeks. Overall the best anime ever, its worth watching. i used to watch dragon ball z but compared to naruto, its nothing. its slightly disappointing how its has a lot of filler episodes staring from about episode 145 and how much of the story line is flash backs from the characters past. Also the legendary 3 have a fight and thats nothing much compared to most other fights scenes on the series, its supposed to be the ultimate battle against all of the 3 legends of the nartuo world, but the other fights and the main story line makes up for that. the characters are all SO original the most original has to be gaara of the desert, his ninjutsu is the power to use sand, to defened and offend the target, hes got to be my favourite. Orochimaru is a VERY original character alswell, when he first shows up in the story, your not sure if thats really a bad or good guy which makes it even better to watch. After watching an episode you just have to go onto the next one. I got through the whole zabuza saga in one day, I just couldn't stop watching it. you should really consider buying the Japanese version as the American version is not nearly as good.
