Designated Survivor (2016)
More pap from left wing brain washer
I was excited early in the 1st season. Fan of action thrillers, I expected a show with action. What I got was lazy writers pushing left wing agenda in two person dialog, in speeches, and at "press briefings." The plot has become so contrived and predictable, I stopped watching in real time, stopped watching the episodes I recorded, and finally dropped it from the record list. I guess ABC just can't do a plot without propaganda.
Emerald City (2016)
Bad, as in not good... from the beginning
I decided the first episode was horrible in the first 5 minutes when I could tell where the writers wanted to take us. "Dorothy", an opiate stealing, dreamer nurse, was going to be shot by a uninformed, Kansas police officer, while holding her hands up, but the cop was sucked into a vortex before he could shoot her in cold blood. Enough... The story, a twisted, sick, interpretation of The Wizard of Oz, morphs Toto into a German Shepard and straw man into a memory lost warrior. The wicked witch, rather than being killed by having Dorothy's house landing on her as it drops from the tornado, dies by Dorothy induced gun discharge to the forehead complete with splattering brains. What is NBC thinking?
Incorporated (2016)
Typical Brainwashed View of the Future
The first episode introduces the viewer to a vision of a class divided world, advantaged and disadvantaged, with all the predictable outcomes, prejudice, privilege, exploitation, etc. Heavy handed preachy writing include typical progressive premises: inherent unfairness of borders, Americans getting their comeuppance for immigration policy, anti- genetic engineered agriculture, negative depiction of corporate culture, and stereotypical characters acting in stereotypical ways.
Had the writers chosen to be a little less obvious about their desire to propagandize, the show's concept, viewing a future world adapting to climate change, has some potential. But as it stands it's just another badly written SyFy series not worth spending time watching - unless of course, you buy the propaganda the writers are peddling.
On the positive side, Some of the technical imagining is interesting.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Bad Start - Season 2
I'm a fan the Post Apocalyptic genre, and I know the walking dead world isn't safe for wimps and teenage naiveté. That, unfortunately, is where the writers have taken us, to the land of naive wimps. For example, Alicia is the whiny teenager girl character, too stupid to grasp the situation the family is in. Chris a the whiny teenage boy, coping with an unavoidable loss, and blaming the father figure Travis. Madison is the troubled matriarch, wannabe strong female character, but failing miserably in all dimensions. Travis, designed to be subordinate to the matriarch, is just a confused mess. The only reasonable redemption I can think of: kill off immediately the characters, Madison, Travis, Alicia, and Chris. The characters are shallow, trite, predictable, and so totally lacking in complexity to support one episode, let alone a series that potentially offers boundless opportunities to explore human reaction to stress. If "fear" continues, down this arc, it will become too painful to watch as writers churn out pablum and destroy the franchise.
