The Block (2003)
Addicting
Found this in the U. S. on Prime. As a novice renovator I like watching these kinds of shows but this one isn't all touchy feely like the shows currently running on HGTV, it has humor and boy do Australians seem to cry a lot.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Disappointing to say the least
Well, there was no Mortal Kombat so that right there should tell you how stupid this movie was. Main character Cole suuuucked. He was so boring and I kept waiting for him to turn into some character from the game but no they just decided to create a new character that has no personality and of course bringing in a boring character is pointless unless you can bring in their boring family to reallly ruin the plot! Sub Zero was played by the best actor and he had maybe 5 lines.
Wild Window: Bejeweled Fishes (2016)
Blue Planet it is not...
I thought this was going to be a documentary about fishes.... it's just a camera, of poor quality looking at fishes in the ocean. Cuts to different fishes swimming every minute or so and has no narration. This would be more appropriate for youtube considering the imagery isn't good and it's got meditative type music.
Rectify (2013)
How is this getting such good reviews??
There are a number of missteps with this show.
1. If they want us to feel for the main character and the family for how incarceration changes a person as well as a family, why not dedicate the first episode to what life was like before the murder?
2. ALL the characters are monotone with zero depth. I have no idea after watching the entire first season plus a few episodes into season 2 who any of these people are other than one personality trait that the director makes them exhibit over and over again.
3. Some of the worst southern accents I've ever heard.
4. You can watch every 5th episode and you will literally not miss anything.
I just don't get the point of this show nor do I know what genre it is. There's zero comedy because nobody has a personality to be able to crack a joke. Not a romance, not a drama because again zero personality and definitely not a crime series because we don't even see the girl who died nor do they really go into detail about the crime.
I feel like the main character watched Shawshank Redemption and tried to channel Andy and never evolved from it. Andy is quiet and mysterious but we eventually know who he is, he's strategic and thoughtful. Daniel is none of those things, he might as well be brain dead.
Skin Wars: Fresh Paint (2016)
Agree with others, judges are terrible!
I watched 3 episodes and had to come to IMDB to see if anyone else thought these judges were picking the wrong winners and turns out I'm not alone. I really hate this setup with the "mentors" picking their artist, half of the time I wanna throw my remote at them because they pick someone terrible over someone with real talent just because they get along with the other one more. And then that very person who shouldn't have even advanced to the second round wins the whole thing with an equally terrible piece. Just dumb.
Born This Way (2015)
Cute Show
I really enjoy watching it and seeing the family dynamics, I didn't score it higher though because I would have liked to see some families who don't have as much money and how they navigate life. I think out of the 7 families they follow only one of them makes the average income or less. The rest have huge houses in L.A. so they definitely have money to get help and assistance that most middle class to lower middle class families wouldn't have access to and I wonder how much that changes their children's development.
Tiny Creatures (2020)
This is really terrible
It's not a nature documentary at all, the first episode follows a kangaroo rat and at first shows it escaping animal predators, pretty typical then it shows a motocross bike kicking up sand on it and then the kangaroo rat runs into a tin can where it shows a "cowboy" shooting the cans like wth?? This wasn't even just a camera that happened to be there seeing how animals are affected by humans it was very obviously staged. Torturing animals because you suck as a real camera man and director of real documentaries???
Hamilton (2020)
Not what I expected
Let me just say screw all these reviewers who are complaining about people of color playing white people and as much attention as this play got why are you just now realizing this?
I love musicals. I've seen Wizard of Oz, Little Shop of Horrors, Fiddler on the Roof and The Sound of Music in theatres so I was excited to see this especially since it was insanely popular but EVERYTHING is song, even dialogue, I can't follow it. I feel like my brain doesn't process the words in songs as quickly or something but I just could not keep up so I gave up after 15 minutes. I can't imagine listening to 2 hours and 40 minutes of straight singing. Some may love it and that's cool, I like that they are doing something historical because really how many Americans know the story of Hamilton.
The Lion King (2019)
Not terrible but not great
I don't see the reason for some of the 1 star reviews, however, I watched this after watching the Aladdin remake so maybe I kept my expectations low. The graphics are really nice. The acting, not so much. Nala and Simba were played better by the kid actors than Beyonce and Danny Glover (they're truly terrible, Beyonce particularly so). Rafiki, Timon and Pumba seem to fade to background characters in the remake. Scar isn't nearly as scary and "cool" and all the music sequences aren't as dramatic visually, I get it's not a cartoon but it doesn't need to be realistic, I mean there's talking animals sooo....
Aladdin (2019)
Pretty bad
I'm giving 3 stars because the wardrobe and scenery were nice. The casting, singing and acting were terrible though. Particularly Aladdin, Genie and Jafar.
Westworld (2016)
Season 3 is soooo bad!!
Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 lost a little luster but still good so for those who hated season 2 oh just wait... season 3 isn't even the same show. All new characters, episodes are all over the place making no progress to whatever point and plot the writers are going for. I feel like I'm watching Terminator and a bad Black Mirror episode. Why all this focus on military and the real world? Get back to the fantasy and sci fi of Westworld!
A Secret Love (2020)
Could have been done better
Although their life story is undoubtedly amazing I think the documentary focuses too much time on their present day life, the issues that come along with aging and family issues as a result. They had maybe 15 mins total of story telling from when they met and their first few years but completely glossed over the other 60+ years. I wanted to hear more about their lives when they were young in Chicago having to keep their love a secret.
Mindhunter (2017)
Am I watching the same show??
I can't count how many times people have randomly told me to watch this show. I love crime shows and anything with serial killers but this was just so.... monotone. There wasn't a single episode that I didn't catch myself not paying attention because it just wasn't all that interesting. How do you make a show about serial killers boring? I'm on episode 8 of season 1 and it's such a painful slow burn and not one that keeps you waiting for something good to happen, it's just the same episode different killer. All of the main characters personal lives are incredibly uninteresting. The character development is seriously lacking, I don't care about any of them and the bits with their lives outside of work feel more like scenes to just pass the time. I was initially expecting it to be a bit slow like The Sinner but it's more like The Sinner season 3 where you just watch to commit to finishing it but you're actually spending more time scrolling through your phone and you're still not missing anything interesting. I just don't get all the great reviews.
