Solid Action Flick
29 November 2007
Last Man Standing is the story of John Smith, a gun-for-hire with an ambiguous conscience. He is on the run from his latest (unexplained) adventures when he finds himself in the small Texas town of Jericho. The town, not really much of a town, is plagued by two warring gangs. Smith sees the situation as an opportunity to make some quick cash by playing both sides against each other. However, as the story unfolds we find Smith to be caught in a conflict of his own warped sense of honor and conscience (which of course is profoundly ironic since Smith claims to be without a conscience).

The movie is solid but nothing special. It is well acted, Bruce Willis as the lead character John Smith is superb and Christopher Walken is, as always, superb as the Irish mobs number one shooter. The two lead female characters in the film play a major part in the development of the story despite not having large roles.

Overall Last Man Standing is a fantastic movie, but not in the sense that it's a good movie but the sense that it is quite unrealistic. Regardless it is very entertaining and a great movie to watch when you don't want to put much thought into the movie. It is a guy movie though, meaning it is rather violent (though not graphically so) and contains a fair amount of female nudity and sexual content (again not graphically so).

My final recommendation is sit down with a bag of popcorn and enjoy watching Bruce Willis kick some bad guy butt.

Borat (2006)

Hysterical
5 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Borat is, without a doubt, the funniest movie I have ever seen. I don't think I ever stopped laughing. Whereas there were certain parts that were at least partially staged it does not take away from the movie at all. The scenes "in Kazahkstan" are obviously staged but still very funny. I would recommend this movie to anyone with a sense of humor. Though for those of you considering taking your kids to see this be forewarned there is some nudity. Also, some of the scenes, though funny, are rather disgusting, i.e. the scene where Borat uses a toilet for a wash basin. Though this is mild compared to a later "wrestling" scene. Regarless the movie is absolutely hysterical and the anti-Semetic jokes make it all the funnier since Cohen is Jewish. Even so some of them teeter on the lines of good taste. More than once I found myself laughing but commenting on how "wrong" the statement was. Bottom line is, if crude humor, American ignorance, fecal matter, and male nudity don't bother you go see this movie. You are guaranteed to have a side-splitting good time.

Great Cornball Movie
6 August 2006
The movie itself is not that bad. Yes it contains a lot of mistakes. Yes the acting is sub-par. Yes it could have been better. But if you watch the movie for the sole purpose of entertainment it will serve that purpose. Granted you won't walk away with the feeling of awe and amazement such as you would with a movie like Gladiator or Saving Private Ryan, but you may get a few laughs. On a side note our hero is the same actor that plays the sniper in Saving Private Ryan. John Travolta plays a decent villain. Maybe its just me but I thought Battlefield Earth was pretty decent. I am actually disappointed they did not make a sequel of the movie. My recommendation is to keep expectations low this way when you see the movie you won't be disappointed.
