Coming Soon (2006)
Long live Czech humor!
I just saw CLERKS II, a good new film by the American director, Kevin Smith and then went on the net to find out what people are saying about it. The film has a few jokes about donkey-cocks and has caused an uproar amongst Christians, film-critics (Joe Siegel, etc.), and all sorts of other people protecting each others' morals. I couldn't help but be amazed (and I wrote this in my comment about CLERKS II) how uptight they are over there! Can you imagine what'll happen when COMING SOON is shown there? They're gonna add Prague to the axis of evil and invade us! They'll make Sir Tijn Po, or whatever his name is into a terrorist just because he seems to support Zoophilia (and has a great piece about Condi Rice)! When I saw COMING SOON in Plzen I don't think anyone walked out. I remember people loving it and talking about for a long time afterwards. I'm proud to be Czech and I'm proud that I don't take everything so seriously!
Clerks II (2006)
Loosen up with the donkeys!
I saw Clerks II the other day and can't believe the stir which a few donkey-cock jokes can cause. I was studying in Prague last Spring and stumbled upon a small Czech film called COMING SOON (directed by first-timer Sir Tijn Po) which is all about a group of zoophiles and their quest for freedom and equality (The group is called E.F.A., short for Equality For All...you get the drift). I watched it with a room full strangers of all ages and backgrounds and no one walked out screaming. None of the journalists ranted against it, people loved it!
If and when this film comes to America it may cause you guys to invade the Czech republic. Loosen up!!! Haven't you read the Roman classic, THE GOLDEN ASS, about a donkey who sodomizes the entire senate? Haven't you heard about Europa, the continent's namesake, being seduced by a lovely bull (who she couldn't have known was Zeus)? People have been loving animals forever, in more ways than one. A couple of jokes about a donkey shouldn't raise any more eyebrows than images of children being chopped to pieces and all the other violence which dominates U.S. TV! Otherwise I must join the chorus of praise for Kevin Smith. I was a little weary about the sequel but he pleasantly surprised, and he would have done so even without the donkey-cock.
