Young Frankenstein (1974)
Put the Candle Back
I was only one year old when this came out. I remember the first time I saw it a few years ago. Never laughed so much in my entire life. Best comedy ever made. From a time when Mel Brooks made movies which were funny. More than a spoof of Frankenstein movies, this is a homage which captures the atmosphere perfectly. The brilliant cast includes Peter Boyle as the Monster, Terri Garr as Inga the lab assistant, Marty Feldman as Igor and Madeline Kahn as Elizabeth. Top honours go to Gene Wilder as the mad and incredibly sexy Dr Frankenstein. How he never won an Oscar is beyond me.
Favourite lines include: "Put the candle back"; "Frau Blucher"; "What exactly is it that you do do?"; and of course the whole "Putting on the Ritz."
The DVD version contains a lot of extra features which are well worth seeing.
Ten out of ten.
Messiah (2001)
Compulsive Viewing
Messiah was compulsive viewing from start to finish. The story centred on apparently random murders of men in London in various gruesome ways. DCI Red Metcalfe (Ken Stott)has to find the truth which, to his surprise, is a little closer to home than he might think.
Gripping drama and Ken Stott was brilliant. Hopefully we have not seen the last of DCI Red Metcalfe.
The Whistle-Blower (2001)
First Rate Drama
A clever, complex plot very well written and brilliantly acted by Amanda Burton, Neil Pearson and Bill Paterson. A first rate drama which held interest until the very end. Highly recommended, I give it 9/10.
