H2Odio (2006)
..intresting, but not perfect..
H2Odio is the third movie by Alex Infascelli, a talented Italian director, with a great love with amazing cinematography and video clip directing... I have to admit that I don't really enjoy video clip directing (except for Shinya Tsukamoto's amazing style) and this movie is THE MOVIE WITH A VIDEO CLIP DIRECTING, but, I have to admit, it's visually impressive! The really problem of this movie is this: it's visually impressive, but nothing more else...acting and dialogs are not sooooo bad (they aren't bad at all), you never have the impression to watch a bad film, but the whole screenplay is a bit weak...
I have to say that is really hard to find horror/thriller movies like this in Italy nowadays, Infascelli is a director who wants to experiment (some sequences in H2Odio are really amazing if you like Digital Shots) so this work is important for Italian "creepy movies", and for this reason I hope that Alex Infascelli will pay more attention on the substance in his next movies, 'cause a great cinematography and amazing camera movements makes an interesting movie, but not a masterpiece..
Anyway, bravo Alex! and Chiara Conti confirms her as a talented actress...
Serial Experiments Lain (1998)
present day..present time...
This is just the best anime of ever and one of the most amazing project in history of "weird movies"...in this case animation..
At the first time it's really hard to understand everything, but the ethereal and at the same time dark, and full of mystery atmosphere capture you totally, in a dreamlike journey beyond anything..
Animation is simple, but great, if you like japan anime full of battles and robots you're in the wrong way..but if you like experimental art, dreamlike sequences, mystery, philosophy (I'm not joking!!!), go and get this one, It's a unique experience..I promise..
I don't spend so much words about the music....it's just perfect..sounds create with images an unbelievable atmosphere..the first time I saw it, I couldn't believe that should exist such a masterpiece in anime..
If David Lynch doesn't like it, I'm Tommy Lee Jones..
Inland Empire (2006)
more than a movie..
First of all..INLAND EMPIRE is not a movie..or if it is, it's the best ever made. This is not to make a classification, but INLAND EMPIRE is the only movie in history that put you into and hit your emotions in this way..(at least in my case). David Lynch is one of the directors that I prefer, because of a lot of things, like his dreamlike style, his atmospheres..the use of sound, and music..the fear caused by mystery and absurdity that he creates..BUT the best thing in Lynch's movies is that there is a story ,of course, but it's not the lead part of them..feelings are the lead part of them, the emotions and the way we feel pain or happiness from his characters.. INLAND EMPIRE is a journey, and Laura Dern our vehicle, I also cannot call her Nikki, or Sue...or both...she's a woman (in trouble, of course) and she's lost in a nightmare..this is the plot, if is necessary to talk about a plot..
Leaving feelings for a moment and talking about the technical aspect of the film I can only say: SIMPLY AMAZING. The use of sounds, the music, and ,of course, the directing are great, and in a really experimental way.. I enjoyed the use of DV, and his amazing camera-movements with the wide-angle. I have to say that the directing is really different from other Lynch's movies...maybe it's different from every movie made before. In the furniture of some places, in the dialogs, and of course in red curtains, but in a lot of other things we find Lynch as we know him, but I have to say that this is a change in his career, an evolution started with the masterpiece Mulholland Dr.
The interpretation of Laura Dern is unbelievable, and the rest of the cast perfect..(oh my god, Grace Zabriskie...)..
I could start discussing about the meaning of cinema, about the meaning of art..and a lot of intellectual theories...or talk about an interpretation of the movie..but it's useless, the only thing that I say is: run, and don't miss this masterpiece!
