Intent to Destroy (2017)
The Promise
We do not like to appeal with absolute concepts.
We hold on to our everyday life, work, dissolve in daily worries.
We respond to serious questions while running with cynicism, indifference and the attitude of "none of my business".
But here is the movie.
About something major. About the naive.
Because the concepts of justice and humanity seem in our time to be naive.
Two hours of immersion in a dark room in eternal questions.
The documentary film tells about the Armenian Genocide, about history, about denial, about the short memory and cyclical nature of history, about justice, about how important and necessary it is for millions of people.
Those people who are denied the right to acknowledge their tragedy, and the victims sew their wounds in genetic codes and pass on to their descendants.
One victim is tragedy, millions are statistics.
Wrestlers, activists, directors who, despite threats, go to the end, carry a high flag, do not bow their heads - they delight.
You admire them, you want to follow them, they inspire you to raise your flag higher.
Werk ohne Autor (2018)
"Don't look away. Never look away, Kurt. All that is true is beautiful."
Frame - here she is so beautiful walking holding her brother's hand.
Frame - here she conducts buses like an orchestra like an orchestra.
Frame - here she is banging her head on the glass.
Frame - she belittles the doctor not to deprive her of the possibility of motherhood.
Frame - her glazed look.
Frame - Dresden is bombed.
Frame - two brothers receive a bullet.
Frame - his teacher cries over the student's mural, which is painted over.
Frame - his mentor demonstrates a battle wound under his hat.
Frame - he paints his sister and her killers in one picture without knowing that.
Frame - the look and horror of the killer when he sees a picture.
Frame - he conducts the buses like an orchestra.
This is a halftone film.
The same thoughts are on both sides - "I do because I can."
Victim rescues the executioner who came to ruin her house.
The villain saves the child of his enemy, but kills his own grandson.
Talent / truth / beauty - go crazy with what is happening around at that time.
Music is so subtle, so penetrating, it excites without words conveying all the tragedy and bitterness of the plot.
Three hours of the film consumed me, for a second I could not take my eyes off the screen.
After watching, I was still impressed by the film for a long time - it seems that it is still very clearly preserved in my memory.
And I liked some ideas that I then thought about for a while:
* the ability to understand others appears through their own ordeals;
* everything living, present, true - beautiful, never look away;
* only goodness can change something in someone's head, if, of course, there is still place and ability for it.
And what it cannot be generalized - among all nations there are good and bad, geniuses and villains.
And also that music and art - they are eternal and they are above everything.
He carried her image with him, finding her piece by piece around, not revealing to anyone, only to the canvas, but retaining the naive look, innocence and liveliness with the heavenly eyes exactly the same as his sister had.
Letyat zhuravli (1957)
"Give me something for a long memory, to remember until old age."
There are films that sink into the heart and steal a piece of your soul.
And you feel uneasy when someone begins to delve into them, fish out some details, judge ... After all, for you this is something living - your friend, your teacher, your love.
"The cranes are Flying" was filmed more than 60 years ago. It looks a bit naive for our time, but it contains an incredible amount of strength and depth.
Not so long ago, I managed to watch this movie on the big screen for the first and possibly last time.
Before the screening, the film critic who organized it told some facts about the creation and life of the film.
He also asked who from the audience had never seen this film and it turned out that more than half of the audience.
And after all, there is something to envy: for the first time they will experience the whole range of feelings from this film.
This is a piercing love story of two touching and pure people and how the war invaded and influenced their lives.
A simple story that the legendary actors of their time Batalov and Samoylova made special.
The film has gone down forever in the history of cinema - it received the main prize of the Cannes Film Festival in 1958, including for innovative cameraman solutions that later became classics of cameraman art.
This film is hard to survive - it raises the soul, but at the same time it is the best way to keep the soul clean, reverent, righteous, to prevent deposits of everyday life from making it indifferent, compromising. In order to not forget what is the main thing what is secondary, and what is not worth attention at all.
State Funeral (2019)
The funeral of the "Father of the people"
This is a documentary about a very important episode in the life of a big country - the funeral of the leader, the father of the people, as he was called.
The personality of Stalin, even in our time, is quite controversial, but undoubtedly significant.
It was very interesting to see the live footage of the event, the faces of people of that era, Moscow of those years, the decoration of the Hall of Columns, where Stalin reclined.
I peered curiously at their faces: how they listened to the announcement of his death, what emotions they reflected or they tried to suppress.
How they cried or watched warily, how they were dressed, how they behaved.
This is a chronicle, there is no director's assessment, just the opportunity to go back to those three days when the whole country said goodbye to its leader.
It was also interesting to see the reaction of the audience in the hall: after the show, someone went out recalling stories about this event, and someone sang patriotic songs, standing at the side of the balcony like ghosts of that era.
And mostly I had a sense of theatricality while watching a movie. Of course, the appeals of the country's leaders to the people should have a certain rhetoric, but such pathetic speeches with an abundance of pathos and slogans today seem something unnatural.
Semnadtsat mgnoveniy vesny (1973)
Just of all the people living on earth he loved most of all the old people and children
I watched all 12 episodes in one go.
Absolutely brilliant movie.
How harsh and touching they are, these graying men who are not afraid to die.
And the music of Tariverdiev is magical.
And how wonderful they play, as if they live, not play.
The old school.
