Don't Worry Darling (I) (2022)
6/10
Range of acting performances, good build up, poor ending
24 September 2022
This film is full of ups and downs.

Florence Pugh puts on a hell of a performance and you can undoubtedly see that she is the best actor out of the bunch. This is the reason Harry Styles' performance is being criticised. His performance is decent however when acting with Florence Pugh the comparison and difference is evident.

The ending is where this film falls flat for me. The plot twist is ok however could have done with more development. Also 10-20 minutes or so at the end could have concluded the film a lot better. As a sequel is in doubt due to the controversy/drama on set, the film doesn't have a proper conclusion to its min story.

Good Cinematography Good Soundtrack Disappointing ending.

Eternals (2021)
7/10
Best MCU movie of the year
7 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Eternals has one of the best opening scenes in a marvel movie that is eye candy for an Eternals fan. Visuals are impressive particularly with the powers and how they look. The non linear storytelling will work for some but not for other (it worked for me personally).

The celestials looked amazing and the film has a large scale. The two post credit scenes are great for the future of different parts of the movie and the ending makes me want Eternals 2 as fast as possible.

Where the film lets me down is with the twist with Ikaris. As an Eternals fan I think it was a poor interpretation of this character and killing him off was not how I saw Ikaris when imagining him from the comics. However possible sequels may allow for this problem to be abolished. Sprite becoming human made sense due to the actor ageing but the character not so I was perfectly fine with this.

Overall the film is almost perfection, just one fatal flaw allowed for the film to slowly lose me.

Great Swan Song for Daniel Craig
9 October 2021
I personally am not an avid Bond fan I enjoy the films but not as much as others. The film has great visuals and the score is of course excellent from the opening to the end.

Rami Malek's villain however, is a little too one dimensional for a Bond film (who's villains are normally pretty good). Returning actors again shine and not a bad performance among them. Ana de Armas' character was superb in her short appearance and was severely under used.

The action wasn't quite as thrilling as usual but they still managed to keep my attention. Car chases were a little too frequent and long and could have possibly been cut down.

Now the ending was something else. A beautiful way to close the film and give Daniel Craig what he deserves as the greatest Bond so far.

What If...? (2021– )

Solid as the first animated MCU project
9 October 2021
The series was always going to have good and bad episodes but I didn't expect some to be so good and some to be so bad. Episodes like the Thor and Kilmonger episodes weren't at all what I wanted but in contrast with the final two, zombies and Doctor strange those four episodes are amazing.

Continuity issues were caused by this series being in development in 2018 not lazy writing so I can forgive that but cliffhangers that aren't resolved shouldn't have happened.

Characters like Peggy Carter, T'Challa Star Lord and Doctor Strange were somewhat different to there live action counterparts but managed to keep what made them such good characters.

Overall not the worst MCU show but far from the best.

Top tier

Warning: Spoilers
There has been some great additions to the MCU so far this year and phase 4 is definitely an experimental phase; Shang-Chi is no exception.

Visuals are pretty great along with great characters and acting. Shang-Chi himself was overshadowed by Wenwu (The Mandarin) in the trailers which didn't give you a good idea about the character but he shines in the film.

Wenwu also manages to be a great villain. With a sympathetic drive to his villainy he manages to avoid the 1 dimensional template past MCU villains unfortunately fall into. His death put his story full circle.

The film also manages to do a lot of world building in its 2 hour and 12 minute runtime in an impressive and not rushed way.

Trevor Slaterey was a character that split the fan base in the middle when Iron Man 3 debuted but when we know the real Mandarin exists his character can be less divisive. He still remains a hilarious character and they don't forget his position as a Liverpool fan. His Planet of the Apes monologue was somewhat emotional for a kind of dumb scene and was well acted.

The action is brilliant especially for the bus fight. The final fight with the rings was a fun and unique fight however the great protector vs dweller in darkness was a good looking yet somewhat boring fight that felt as if it didn't fit in the film and the hand to hand fights were brilliant.

Both credit scenes are brilliant and the mid credit scene is one of the best in the MCU with appropriate cameos that leave you excited for the future. It also connects the film to the wider MCU. The second scene was great and allows excitement for the sequel to rise.

Overall the film is great and has some great character moments however the final fight ends in a chi mess that perhaps didn't belong in the film.

Wow just wow
5 September 2021
This film is just brilliant. From the opening fight to the the final shot the film is packed with majestic visuals and delightful camera work. The action is also brilliant and this is benefitted by the high stakes. Some great acting and character work also elevate the film's score. I look forward to more like this in the DCEU.

Decent
24 April 2021
Solid show but could have been a movie instead. The writing is good and the action is great however the twists could be considered predictable but I wished it would have gone bigger.
