What happened?

I had high hopes for WW84 as a down-to-earth movie similar to WW. The setting was perfect, ripe for good-natured jokes, ...

Somehow we end up with more gods walking the earth like Justice League and it takes itself way too seriously. Why? How can audiences relate?

First and foremost emphasize the story and character. Get rid of excessive slo-mo "moments" and religious chorals. Marvel and Disney understands this thoroughly.

Why can't Time Warner? As a DC fan, it's extremely frustrating to see.

Something to watch with the young 'uns

Grab a healthy snack and get ready to enjoy a lighter and zanier Batman.

There are a few things that set this show apart from prior shows & cartoons: The show manages to balance a "fun" atmosphere without becoming campy, its often in the first-person narrative (Batman's), and the focus is exclusively on Batman in-costume.

In short, this is a character that enjoys what he does and whatever personal life he has is besides the point.

If you're looking for an operatic interpretation of Batman then prepare to be disappointed. However, if you're a fan of the character then this is a perfectly reasonable way to introduce your children to a beloved character.

Unbreakable (2000)

Beautifully crafted, horribly underrated

Simply put, this is about two men who discover their true places late in life.

In a serious nod to comic books and the superhero genre, the movie paces itself deliberately and explains perfectly why superheroes are necessary and how they may come about in a real-life setting.

And as mentioned many times before the score, acting, and overall filming all beautifully make the suspension of disbelief possible.

Unfortunately, M. Night Shyamalan's trademark twist-ending worked against him here as that is probably the only thing audiences were waiting for at the time. In fact the twist ending is almost besides the point, though it sets the stage for a much necessary sequel.

Also unfortunate is that there doesn't seem to be any plans for an Unbreakable sequel; but with the recent popularity of NBC's Heroes, perhaps audiences will finally be ready for a more mature take on the superhero genre.
