Totally Awesome (2006)
Totally Awesome Stoner Flick
This movie is what it is. A spoof movie. It's not supposed to be "great". For all those who say it sucked for lacking a plot I say to you, move along because you obviously do not know a hilarious movie when you see one. It's a great movie to watch when you're baked. The directed also directed "Half Baked" starring Dave Chapelle. If you wanna have lots of out loud laughs, watch this movie. If you are looking for a serious movie, then this is not for you. It's made by VH1 people, come on. It's supposed to be a joke. I personally enjoyed Dominique Swain's spazzy loud character. She was hilarious. So basically, if you are a stoner then you wont be disappointed.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
One of the Best Shows Ever
I admittedly have not been a fan of the television show until the third season. I originally saw the movie when it came out and loved it. At the time, I thought Kristy Swanson as Buffy was the bomb. I was much younger then. After collecting the DVD sets and then the Buffy collection box set, I have become a major Buffy fan. Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy is excellent. I wasn't so sure of her at first, but then the more I watched, the more I enjoyed what I saw. The show is very intelligent and witty. Great cast and story lines throughout. Although I do not believe the series finale did the show justice. For a series finale I was expecting a two hour finale, especially for Buffy. Apparently, Joss Whedon was much too busy with his Firefly/Serenity projects to really focus all of his attention toward the Slayer. So, unfortunately, I feel as though I was somewhat cheated out of a really good ending to my favorite show ever. I am still awaiting made for television movies created from the series. None yet though that I am aware of. My favorite season of Buffy has to be the third one. Like I mentioned earlier, it was the season that really captured my attention. I didn't much get into many of the story lines after the 5th season though. I really enjoyed the show, but toward the end it could have been much better. Overall, I have to rate this as a 10 for sure. This show will never be forgotten.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
Gory Fun
This movie got a lot of not so good reviews mostly because it didn't have anything to do with Ed Gein or it wasn't as good as the one made before it, as some may say. In my opinion, this is a very well made classic original movie. Sure, it followed the guidelines as the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That's what the TCM movies are all about, staying true to the story of the very first film. I wasn't expecting all the surprises that this film presented and definitely wasn't prepared for the ending. If you're a fan of the TCM movies, I highly suggest that you see this one. It's like none of the others I've seen yet.
Venom (2005)
Well Done Slasher Flick
I was very hesitant about this movie. I'd first seen it when it was released on DVD at a videostore and read the synopsis. At the time I thought it sounded like a really ridiculous plot. But just last week I ended up recording it to my Tivo and just watched it tonight for the first time and was really surprised at how well done it was for a teen slasher flick. If you like movies like "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer", you'll definitely enjoy this one. Although, to my enjoyment, this movie featured a supernatural killer, unlike the two movies I mentioned. To me that'd be a lot more horrifying than trying to outsmart or outrun a human killer. Props to the makers of this film. 6 stars.
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Pathetic Waste
I do adore horror movies, some of them anyway. But when you want to make a snuff film, don't categorize it as "horror" in the video store. This is no horror movie. This is a snuff movie nonetheless. Girls being raped beat tortured. The movie is filled with dread and hopelessness. Whoever could actually sit through something like this more than once certainly isn't quite like other people in society. In other words, why would you WANT to watch two young girls being raped and beaten, unless you get some sick perverted thrill from it. I personally thought the movie sucked, the acting sucked, and it was a really retarded horrible attempt at making a movie. Again, this is not horror. This is snuff-like and should NOT have been released at all, period.
Ultraviolet (2006)
Confusing or Beautiful?
I've heard many bad reviews of this movie. I personally liked it very much. I am HIV positive and I can relate to the main character in lots of ways. The movie does not explain much, for example, why and how Violet's hair and costume changes colors throughout the movie. I think it's great that they did not explain. There are too many movies out nowadays that let out too much information and once you know too much it just gets dull and becomes predictable and really boring. This movie kept me guessing, on edge, and wanting to watch it over and over again. The unrated extended cut is the DVD version I purchased the day it came out. My suggestion would be to purchase that one instead of the PG-13 DVD. This one seems to show more of Violet's almost sensitive side. It's a very good movie with a good message and lots of hardcore eye popping visuals that will certainly blow you away. Also, every time I watch it, I catch something new. Love those kinds of movies.
Wolf Creek (2005)
Wolf Creek Lacks
I rented the unrated version of Wolf Creek right after it was released. All the critics were comparing it to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"....how dare they. Wolf Creek was nothing more than a crap fest with bad acting and a horrid script full of nothing but cheap vulgarities that a high schooler could have written. It was a badly made film and no one should have to be subjected to that kind of horrible crappy movie. This has nothing on "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Half the time I had no idea what was even going on in the movie. The characters made stupid moves and almost created their own demise so it was hard to feel sorry for them. The killer, who seemed more like someone's Aussie grandfather, was as scary as Barney in a clown suit. All he had to back himself up was his filthy mouth and promises to rape kill and torture people. What a waste of film this movie was. Is the movie industry doing this bad??
