Some Assembly Required (2014)
Is it necessary to have a laugh track after every. single. line?!
The acting is okay at best, but all I remember whilst watching this show is just cringe, cringe, cringe. The writing is pretty dreadful and the characters are one-dimensional and shallow. It isn't nearly as bad as some people here say it is, but it still isn't very good. There are much better shows on Netflix that's for sure.
The Lion King (1994)
Greatest animated movie ever made, maybe even the greatest movie of all time
The Lion King is an absolute delight to watch. I feel like it's the best movie ever made by Disney, and one of the best movies ever made in general. It beautifully portrays Hamlet in a funny and charming way and is told with some of the most beautiful hand-drawn animation ever produced. It explores the themes of self-identity, grief and honour in a beautiful and emotionally-destructive way. The characters all do what they're supposed to do without being too annoying or bland. Scar is an intimidating and terrifying villain who really packs a punch. The songs are all outstanding, my personal favorites being "Hakuna Matata" and "Be Prepared". It has some the most gorgeous score I've ever heard in a movie which makes the emotional scenes even more sad to watch, to the point where I'm just bawling my eyes out in a little ball on the floor. It's an important movie that everyone in their lifetime should watch, and I really mean it.
The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
Great confort food
Despite the animation being annoyingly cheap, the Emperor's New Groove is the funniest movie in the Disney Canon. I does everything that Home on the Range failed at, being a comedy without taking itself seriously. There wasn't any moments where you're supposed to feel really sad, unlike Home on the Range, and the characters are all really loveable in their own way, unlike Home on the Range. It's not supposed to make you feel things like other movies Disney has made, it's just supposed to make you laugh. It's just brilliant!
Lilo & Stitch (2002)
Dark and adorable
One of the darkest movies in the Disney canon, Lilo and Stitch perfectly contrasts an adorable fantasy about a child befriending an alien with deep, almost numbing, mellow undertones of depression and stress. The animation is great, the characters are great, the story is amazing, what's not to love?
Mulan (1998)
Inpsirational and uplifting
Mulan explores themes of honour and loyalty and presents them extremely well. The characters are all really likeable and the comic reliefs are never too annoying. The comedic timing is also perfect and provides some great laughs. Mulan is an amazing character, coming from a simple farm girl to a warrior who single-handedly takes down an entire enemy army. The whole movie is very inspirational, and has some very dark moments. It's one that I've watched multiple times, with more times to come.
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Wonderful 1st Act
I loved the first 30 minutes of this movie. It's, in my opinion, perfect. I loved Tiana's endless optimism and the ball scene is just great. Dr Facilier steals every scene he's in, and "Friends on the Other Side" is an absolute jam. "Almost There" is also in my top 3 favorite Disney songs, it's amazing, uplifting and such a positive song. It helps that Tiana is my favorite Disney princess, and one of my favorite characters in fiction altogether. She's a perfect role model for kids and grownups alike, no matter what gender. It's really after she gets turned into a frog where I start to lose interest in the whole movie. I'd just love to see it all be about Tiana trying to get and run her restaurant, not a "trying to get home" and "magic voodoo" story. But I still love how they gave Prince Naveen a personality, and a really likeable one at that! I do really love this movie, I just wish it was only about Tiana.
Dumbo (1941)
Saddest movie in the Disney Canon
If you ever decide to watch Dumbo, keep the tissues close. Holy moly. There isn't a moment during "Baby Mine" where I'm not bawling my eyes out. Some people find the upsetting and mean-spirited tone of Dumbo to be too much, and I can totally understand that. But I think it's important to know the ins and outs of how animals are treated in the circus. It's emotionally destructive and deeply upsetting as well as being one of the darkest movies Disney has made, but it also has some adorable moments. The chemistry between Dumbo and Timothy is very sweet, and the finale is also very uplifting. It's also not too long, being a little over an hour long, so it never has a really dull moment. I recommend it, but be prepared for a LOT of tears.
Hercules (1997)
One hell of a good time
Hercules is just a great time inside and out. The songs are all awesome and the characters are all hilarious (everyone can dish out the shadiest burns like it's nobody's business). The CG used for the Hydra is extremely dated and the animation in general isn't on par with other movies around the same time, but the characters more than make up for it. It also explores the theme of self-identity, which is always important for kids to learn. It's not the most thought-provoking movie that Disney has made, but it doesn't need to be. It's thing is a hilarious and sweet coming-of-age story featuring greek gods and Danny Devito. It does it's thing and does it amazingly.
Pinocchio (1940)
Terrifying masterpiece
You wouldn't think that a concept as sweet as Pinocchio would be terrifying, but it is. Despite being the most disturbing animated movie that Disney has made, it is also beautiful to look at as well as being insanely sweet. I'd recommend a watch, but not for young children.
One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)
Charming and adorable
My favorite thing about 101 Dalmatians has always been the animation style. It's super simple but it just works and it's just great to look at. Cruella is one of Disney's best villains, she's just so much fun. I have a few problems with some of the scenes, I feel like some of them drag on a bit, but I still love this movie.
Tangled (2010)
Better than Frozen in every way
It's hard to dislike Tangled. It takes the classic tale of Rapunzel and makes it into an insanely sweet and fulfilling adventure that doesn't hold back in making me laugh. I definitely recommend checking it out.
Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Unlike anything Disney had done before
Unlike its atrocious successor, Wreck-It Ralph is an awesome movie. Everything that happens on-screen makes sense and nothing ever feels forced. Ralph and Vanellope have a really sweet and heartwarming father-daughter relationship. Every character feels fleshed out and well-developed and the plot is original without many flaws. It's a great movie.
Fantasia (1940)
Breathtaking piece of art
Brilliant, breathtaking and dull are three words that should not go together, but I don't want to hold back. Fantasia is a stunning movie. The animation is incredible and the sequences are astounding. But the biggest problem is that it's as boring as a movie can get. If it was, like, 30-45 minutes shorter then it would be something I would love a lot more. I respect Fantasia as it really is a masterpiece, but I don't think I'd be watching it again any time soon.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
An abosulte classic
It all started here. Snow White is timeless and an absolute classic. The animation is insane for its time, but is definitely more on the outdated side nowadays. It's just great. It's not really one I'd watch over and over again mainly since it's not really the movie for me, but I'd absolutely recommend checking it out. Even if it's not the movie for you, just watch it. It'll end up surprising you...
The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
Much better than its predecessor
Where to start with Rescuers Down Under? It's hard enough to find a sequel that is just on the same level as the original, let alone finding one that is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor! This is the latter, what a brilliant sequel. Despite being very predictable, it's action-packed with incredible animation. However, Bernard and Bianca serve little to no purpose despite being very likable and the plot, like I said, is very predictable to the point of being quite dull. Still, it's very enjoyable and I'd definitely re-watch it at some point.
Meet the Robinsons (2007)
Underrated gem
The characters are great and so's the animation, with a story that is original and consistent. There are a few moments that annoy me but there aren't many and aren't for very long. The villain is very entertaining and has a personality that I would really like to see in more Disney movies. The ending is also brilliant, and is something that I didn't see coming at all! It's not really one I would watch over and over, but it's still a great underrated movie that I'd recommend giving a watch!
Winnie the Pooh (2011)
Good-bye 2D animation
It's super sweet and the animation is smooth and consistent. There's nothing much to say except that I'd recommend it!
Frozen (2013)
The marketing made it intolerable at the time, still awesome though
Let's start with the things that are amazing about Frozen. First off, the songs and animation are incredible. Second, Anna and Kristoff are awesome characters and they really deserve more attention. Third, the story is original and flows decently. However, the story is still flawed and Elsa is a TERRIBLY written character, to the point where I almost despise her. She's an egotistical, nasty person who really should have been the villain. But it's still a heartwarming, sometimes insanely sad, family movie!
Cinderella (1950)
An absolute classic
Is it outdated? Yes. Is the story full of plot holes? Yes. Is it still a heartwarming and often hilarious tale? Hell yes. It's very sweet. The characters you're supposed to like are loveable and the ones you're supposed to hate are very hateable, but not in a bad way. The songs are all timeless and beautiful. There's not much I really dislike about it. Except the very flawed story and the fact that the Prince lacks a human personality. But it's still great!
Dinosaur (2000)
Way better than I originally thought
Most people either hate or are indifferent to Dinosaur. I personally really enjoyed it. True, the plot is basic and unoriginal and most of the characters are dull, but I still really liked it! I loved Aladar as a main character, not to mention the animation is spectacular for 2001! It's technically not very good, but I really liked it.
Frozen II (2019)
Don't know where to stand on this one
I don't really know where to stand on this one. One one had, Frozen 2 is a gorgeously animated movie with amazing songs, great characters and an enticing plot. On the other hand, it's a pointless, painfully average sequel that doesn't really add much. Kristoff barely does anything in it and neither does Anna really. At least Elsa is more likeable, right? All in all, it's fine. Watch it if you want, but you wouldn't gain much from it.
Treasure Planet (2002)
A bit too ahead of its time
It's fine. It's really nothing special though. It could've been brilliant, but the story is very flawed and the characters weren't very memorable. But I still really enjoyed it. The CG is very good for its time and it has many exciting moments. If you like action-packed voyage movies then give it a watch!
The Little Mermaid (1989)
I understand the love for it
Most things about Little Mermaid are brilliant. The characters, pacing and world building are amazing. Ariel is a great main character and the animation is beautiful, but there are quite a few things I have a problem with. Some of the comic reliefs are really annoying and the only song I remember liking at all was "Under the Sea". It's great on the contrary, but it isn't really for me.
Lady and the Tramp (1955)
It's fine
It's sweet and has some great scenes, but lacks good pacing and an actually interesting story to really be better than mediocre.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
Could have been amazing
While there are plenty of things to love and marvel at with Hunchback, like the gorgeous animation and great main characters, there are plenty of things to despise about it too. Some of the songs are terrible, as well as the gargoyles only being there to put the G rating on it. I HATE the gargoyles. But, in a way, they make me appreciate the amazing parts of Hunchback. Quasimodo and Esmeralda are just incredible characters. Frollo is the vilest piece of nasty that Disney adapted from a book and the animation is just breathtaking. I know I said some of the songs are terrible, but some of the songs like "Out There", "Hellfire" and "God Save the Outcasts" are just...wow. It's one of the most disturbing movies that Disney has made, as well as being one of the most mature. It's so close to being perfect but..I just can't overlook the horrendous parts of it. Disney, you were so close. Why'd you have to ruin it?
