Missing (I) (2023)
3/10
Made for TV 1985

Wow. Netflix is hitting all time lows with this low-budget piece of schlock writing. Missing is to the Thriller what the worst Steven Segal movie is to Action films: huge plot holes, nonsensical developments, police and legal procedures that aren't a thing. I'm giving it 3 stars because there are a few decent actors here that have done better work, and they make the most of what the hack writers and director handed them. If you're reading this to decide whether to watch, NO, just... no. Google "best thrillers of the 2010s" or something. Look on IMDB. Because, if you have any standards and expectations for film making, this made-for-tv idiocy will have you groaning in misery.

Just Right

This is by no means a great movie. But, it moves right along with the thrills, and if you just want to have some mindless fun and yell, "kill 'em you idiot!" at the screen, it's not a bad choice for a midnight movie.

It's a horror movie that takes place at a remote cabin, like countless others in this genre. ('Cabin in the wilderness' is a sub-genre of its own at this point!) Leave it at that and try not to read the full description so you don't know where it's going, if you can. That's all that needs saying. I thought I'd throw in a review that makes an argument for watching 'Bury' if you're in the right mood. Peace.

Control (2022)

Inconsistent

There were good ideas in here, but basically the writer and director were not up to the task of producing a good movie. For example: the subject/lead is quite emotional and animated during the first 2/3 of the movie and during the last 10 minutes. But, during "phase 3" they had the actress walk around deadpan like Bride of Dracula. It was genuinely embarrassing.

The action scenes toward the climax literally repeat. If they did one more close up of her contorting hands, I would have stopped watching. I guess they didn't have the money or creativity to make something progressive and interesting?

To be fair, there are some engaging elements too, but- blah.

Absolutely Fantastic

Both the humor and action are a total blast. The title pretty much says it all. Rutger Houer is perfect in the roll of the "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it any more" Hobo. He has so many great lines it puts Arnold's movies to shame. Wait 'till he gets his shotgun ! You've surely seen a movie (or documentary) where you screamed at the TV, "just kill 'em ALL!!" That's this movie. There's over the top violence, so if you're not open to blood, gore, and guts, veins in your teeth, then skip it. If you like outrageous "crank the insanity to 100" non-stop vengeance against scum-baggery, you'll love it!
