Yellowjackets: Edible Complex (2023)
Mid Af
This episode was clichéd, predictable, poorly written in parts and had some terrible acting. I mean, that vape line was atrociously cringey. "Vape myself into oblivion", Jesus Christ. The Radiohead song at the end was the only thing that made this worth watching, that was pretty awesome. However, it made me question whether or not the good music in this show is what made it appealing to me in the first place, not the actual substance of the show. I will give Yellowjackets the benefit of the doubt and say that I did enjoy the first season not entirely because of the soundtrack. It was suspenseful, funny in parts, and was generally well written and while the acting still wansnt amazing, it was a good show. Fell off hard.
The Last of Us (2023)
A Great Beginning
Everything from the emotional callbacks, the intense directing that felt so similar to the thrilling experience of playing the game in the very accurately displayed third person, and the gripping accuracy of what actually happens in the game while still adding events that fed into the actual gameplay storyline made this an unbelievable start to what seems to be a great television show. Even if you have not played The Last of Us, I highly recommend you start watching this show. It has the potential to redeem both the video-game adaptation genre, and continue to uphold the zombie horror genre in the Walking Dead's footsteps.
South Park: The Streaming Wars Part 2 (2022)
The end of Tegridy?
Randy Marsh is one of my favorite South Park characters. He always has been for his bizarre life decisions and hilarious moments. But the Tegridy storylines took what made Randy such an interesting character and sucked the life out of it. He was great as a backup character to the boys. I missed him as "Stan's weird dad" and not the main focus of the show.
In this episode they hinted at retiring the Tegridy farms storyline (most likely due to fan backlash though Matt and Trey don't seem to care that much about that lol), but then seemed to bring it back for the end of the episode. I really hope they permanently get rid of Tegridy farms and bring back the old Randy, and more importantly, keep the show about Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. They seemed to go back to their roots a little in season 25, even featuring Randy in his original outfit and episodes focused solely around the boys. I hope they make it official in the next season and get rid of Tegridy. Also, a Kenny-focused episode in the new season would be awesome.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Tarantino's Masterpiece
This film is Tarantino's masterpiece. Not Pulp Fiction, not Reservoir Dogs, but his newest movie. The story deals with a once popular, but now struggling, fictional actor named Rick Dalton and his best friend/stunt double, Cliff Booth. That may not sound like a very interesting plot (which it isn't) but the way it unfolds is so beautiful with Rick accepting his new role in Hollywood and in his life in general. This film is about Rick coming to terms with himself as a person and as an actor, which is something everyone has to face in their life. The way the setting is portrayed is incredible as well. I was never alive to experience the 60s but after watching this movie I feel like I really was in 1969 LA. The soundtrack also adds to this atmosphere. Both the soundtrack and setting also add to the themes of the movie since this is a decade most people reminisce about. One of my favorite Tarantino story niches is also used again in this film with the positive rewriting of negative history (such as in Inglorious Basterds in an example of his previous films). This has become one of my favorite movies of all time. It took me a few watches for it to really sink in, so I highly recommend that if you are a Tarantino fan and did not like this movie on the first viewing that you go back and watch it again.
Morbius (2022)
Jared "McDaddy" Leto Strikes Again
God bless Jared Leto. This made me nut my pants. 10/10. Hope to see this skin in Fortnite. Jared's performance reminded me of his performance in Requiem for a Dream. That movie sucked. Who cares about a bunch of addicts. Vampires is where it's at.
Boss Level (2020)
Everything I expected
It wouldn't be appropriate to call this movie a disappointment, because calling something a disappointment implies that you expected this movie to be good. After finding nothing else to watch, I settled for this movie. It is cringy, boring and the storyline is basically Groundhog Day with more violence.
