Sejer - se deg ikke tilbake (2000)
Can one line alone make a movie?
I liked these four episodes of "Se deg ikke tilbake" because I have always like Sejer, and I liked the psychological plot, but I liked this movie mainly because of this line and scene: The mentally retarded Raymond has to drown an injured rabbit, but he is unable to force himself to do this. Then his father who always lies in his bed says these very words: If you do not drown that rabbit, Raymond, I will rise to my feet, and you know what will happen then, do you not, Raymond? And this threat frightens Raymond so much that he drowns the rabbit. To me, this line will forever stand as the best threat ever made, and it is also the reason why I give it 8 of 10 points. Without it, this movie would not have deserved more than 6 points.
Fredrikssons fabrikk - The movie (1994)
This movie is almost like a long episode of the original series!
It is hard to find any differences between this movie and an ordinary episode from the series, except that the movie is about three times longer than an ordinary episode. All the humor that we know from the series is also in the movie, but personally I do think that the story of this film is not enough for a movie. If the directors had taken out the best scenes, this movie could have made a really good episode in the original series, but as it is now, I do not think the movie was very good. Nevertheless I give it 6 out of 10, because the movie gives us that kind of scenes that we expect, and made me laugh several times, but again, the story was a bit thin.
This is the main plot of the movie: The factory "Fredriksons Fashion", which makes clothes, celebrates its 100 year anniversary, with all the complications which follow with it.
If you like the humor that the series present, you are certainly going to like this movie, but if you hate the series, you should definitively stay away from it. It is no more to say, except that people who are not from Norway or Sweden may not see the humor with the Swedish owner of the Norwegian factory.
Elling (2001)
An entertaining movie about two insane persons trying to live a normal life
I quite liked this movie because it gives a good characterisation of two socially insane people trying to live a normal life in their own flat after they have been locked up in a institution the last two years. Per Christian Ellefsen is very good as the prudish old maid Elling, and Sven Nordin also made me laugh several times as Elling's friend Kjell-Bjarne who is crazy about women. Elling himself discovers after a while that he is a poet, and starts to write poems which he lays in packets of sour cabbage and he then places the packages back in the store, waiting for someone to buy them.
Some of the most funny scenes in this movies is to see how this crazy persons try to deal with situations which normal persons do not think twice about, but these two persons have two battle with themselves to manage an easy thing as answering a phone call.
However, both Elling and his friend Kjell-Bjarne both reach their goals at the end, Kjell-Bjarne gets himself a woman, and someone reads one of Elling's poems.
I considered this movie to be very funny when I saw it, and I certainly hope that someone will make a sequel two it. I have not yet read any of Ingvar Ambjørnsens books about Elling, but maybe I will do so in the future. However, "Elling" is an entertaining movie which mentions serious problems in a humorous way. I will recommend it for everyone who does not need to see braindead action-movies, and I also hope that this movie will be welcomed be foreign critics. This movie does certainly deserve to be shown in other countries than Norway!
