Return of Hanuman (2007)
Best Indian cartoon of its time
Best Indian cartoon of its time. With lots of humour and good messaging for children to preserve nature.
Shazam! (2019)
DC got it right... this time again after WW.
The best thing about Shazaam that it is not the usual superhero movie.
No serious stuff, this is more fun. The movie is not very grand like Ironman, Aquaman with Super villains and super aliens but whatever is in the movie makes sense.
This is actually how a superhero should be brought in, keeping it simple and small, thus leaving the scope to build towards a larger plot and storyline.
The movie kind of loses a bit towards the end but I cant complain much about it.
The best thing about the movie is a kid living in this big body with super power wearing tights, trying to discover his super abilities and values as well.
I have never been fan of Shazaam before but Zachary Levi with his excellent performance, overall direction and story made me liked this movie.
For sure this is one of the movies that I can casually watch again, without getting bored.
Powder (2010)
Excellent, vastly underrated
POWDER got released in 2010 and I did watched it for another 10 years. Now binged watched it in 2020.
The only reason for not giving it 10/10 is because certain elements and production quality are 10 years old, but really this is nitpicking.
Overall doesn't really feel that I am watching something a decade old.
Drug trafficking, money laundering and all other stuff seems is portrayed so realistically.
There are peaks in every episode. Acting, writing, direction and story all are superb. Certain elements in the series seems unnecessary but bear fruits at the right time.
Best things is unlike web series in 2020 no MC, BC and unnecessary sex in this. So the series does not create an awkward moment when watching with family.
Avrodh: The Siege Within (2020)
Gripping, engaging
Hearing about Avrodh, first came to my mind was comparison with "Uri: the Surgical Strike" film and then thought this to be a mediocre TV series.
But Avrodh surprised me with good storyline and acting, making it a complete package.
Surprise package of the series is Darshan Kumar. Amit Sadh has been shown as the lead actor who comes (later) and takes the center stage but until then Darshan Kumar looks impressive.
Good things - there are no extreme nationalist overtones, it is shown that how honest media reporting crosses the line.
Production value (being TV series) and direction drops rarely making it lose 2 points.
Overall this is a good watch and complete TV series in all aspects.
Snowpiercer (2020)
Better than 7, less than 8.
Don't know why series is rated 6.4. But its better than this. At first, character building is there. The gradual built up to uprising is good, performances are also nice.
Rick and Morty (2013)
Funny, cocky, adult.... and grr8
Show is funny , interesting, has all the elements of fun. Self obsessed genius narcissist Rick partners with his stupid not so bright grandson.
Show gets interesting with every episode with parodies and reoccurring characters.
Dark (2017)
Complicated.... more than you think
I started watching this series after a friend recommended me and spoiled that fact this is a complicated TV series.
No spoiler in that fact that this is based on time travel where characters travel back and fourth, and fourth and back, again and again and again. Yes, like my repeated writing this is repeated as well.
After watching season 1 and 2, had to (enjoyably) watch them again in fast forward to understand it better. Unlike Matrix or Inception the series doesn't have a philosophical theme but it beats viewers imagination time and again.
I binged watched 6 episodes of Season 3 when I am writing this review but believe me this is one hell of a series to watch.
The only reason it is not 10/10 because I had to remember Character names when their references are made and sometimes I felt really lost.
Panchayat (2020)
As simple as an Indian village.... as good as TVF
TVF is creating one gem after another....
This is not a gem but it is a good series.
Panchaayat leverages strengths from their characters Jitender (a.k.a) Jitu bhaiyas honesty, simplicity of the village.
Good thing is Panchaayat does not dance to usual village problems that we have all seen. Rather kept is simple to day to day problems and simple village life. Whatever is there in the village is presented very much in the same way.
Acting from all the actors are excellent.
Why it doesnt score a 9 or 10? Because it is a very simple story, absolutely nothing is loud about the series, it is very flat.
Overall verdict..... good watch and you would like another season.
Extinction (2018)
Good concept, poor execution
Movie has a very good concept and story line. But this is where the good part ends and problems start to come. Alien invasion is given a new flavor in this movie where the alien actually are not alien and those attacked arent those whom they seem.
Movie starts to build tension but soon it diffuses as the plot unfolds.
Regarding special effects it seems Netflix has been producing lots of film with the same production template. Seems that they have a platform of special effects and background pallete. Does visuals seems to look very similar you would have seen in the recent times.
Overall verdict,,,,, one time watch. But you may not remember after few days or end up recommending it.
Extraction (2020)
High octane action, kill, kill, kill.....
In the above 5 words you can describe the whole movie. Movie is high on action, proves it is directed by an action director.
Chris Helmsworth bury his funny side and comes out as a no nonsense macho shooting bullets and giving fist fights.
Movie has a linear storytelling.
Where it lacks short in storytelling and you may not feel connected.
Overall its a good one time watch and you will like if you are an action freak.
