Broadchurch (2013)
A game of (at least) 2 halves
Series 1. Excellent
Series 2. (After watching 1 1/2 episodes) Laughably far fetched and unbelievable. It's as if the writers just threw the kitchen sink of plot twists and turns in to see what stuck. Plot holes bigger than a crater.
Example of a conversation between me and person watching it with me:
"Who's she?"
"Isn't she married to him?"
"THAT wouldn't happen in court!"
"He's been arrested for THAT??? 😂😂😂"
Series 3. Not even sure I'll bother, as I doubt I'll finish S2.
It's full of really good actors, and the writers have produced some other cracking dramas, but storylines are much more procedurally accurate these days.
Really disappointed.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Absolute Garbage!
As a huge "Luther" fan I looked forward to this immensely!
I needn't have bothered. Terrible script, totally ignoring the fact that he was taken away in handcuffs at the end of the last series. Dialogue that sounded like it was written by a drama student, and easily the most laughable killer in the history of serial killer dramas.
It clearly had a huge budget that was woefully wasted on terrible special effects!
How on earth was this released?
Idris Elba and Andy Serkis should be ashamed of their input and involvement in this. It makes a mockery of the previous series and if a follow up is being considered, I'd quit right now.
The Trial: A Murder in the Family (2017)
A stunning piece of television
If you like legal dramas, this is a must see.
A mix of documentary and drama, it follows a murder case to its verdict. Without giving anything away, there's are segments towards that end of the mock trail showing flashbacks of the actual fictional murder and events leading up to it. It actually left me holding my breath, and there's a couple of very clever twists that leave you not knowing what is meant to have actually happened until the very end.
Showing accurate processes within a trial and the jury was totally absorbing. I was left emotionally drained at the end. I can't recommend this enough!
Angela Black (2021)
What a waste of time. Totally unbelievable.
I won't go into detail here as I can't be bothered.
But, acting: wooden. There was no sense of jeopardy, as the "bad guy" had little motive to do what he was doing.
Stole one of the ideas from "Strangers on a Train".
Don't waste your time on this.
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
2 Hours Wasted.
I could write about the first hour or so, which was ok.
But, a plot hole the size of Saturn left me shouting at the tv screen.
AVOID.
