The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017)
Well written, well directed, well performed
This film shows how Actor, Adam Sandler can play a dramatic role well (also/more so 'Uncut Gems'), Ben Stiller too, performs great through this film.
This film touches upon the conflicts of many families, with siblings jealousy over 'the golden child', parents trying to be better then their own parent/s, and a fathers children trying to defend/ lie to themselves about his bad parenting behind his 'good' work that he put more effort into as they grew up.
The film has a phew jokes to lighten the mood throughout the film and as any Sandler film would, and as said already, is quite realistic especially through the 'hospital scenes'.
I would definitely recommend anyone to watch this film as it was well written, well directed and well performed.
Marriage Story (2019)
99% Accurate to real life
I think this film was almost flawless, having great acting from Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and more supportive roles such as Laura Dern or Azhy Robertson. The movie has a great score; music coming in just when it was needed but not staying it's welcome. The story was great and so accurate to real life situations (not over-exaggerating things at all). The one 'problem' I had (which was barley a problem) was that 1% of accuracy. I think the film could have shown Charlie (Adam Driver) being more emotionally unstable; they did do this many times, yet I think that could have made it more common or more significant when it did happen.
The last minor bump i have is that someone who in their life has not experienced what this film shows may not connect to the film as much as someone who has. This could make the experience not as emotional as the viewer may not be as sensitive about the story. I think this is why maybe bringing more of that emotion into the film could help others understand/connect with the film.
The Lion King (2019)
Almost Greatness
This review is made assuming the original has been seen This movie is almost a copy of the beloved 1994 'The Lion King' animation as wanted/expected. The visuals are outstanding from the smallest details of a grain of dirt, to the wide open shots of Pride Rock. The new actors were all great to hear and played there characters sometimes very similarly to the original, and other times very differently in their own unique way which was great. I only had two problems with this movie
- making a 'realistic' version of The Lion King, means taking away key features such as huge facial expressions to falling eye brows, which would normally show a characters feelings/emotions, yet as it needed to be as real as possible they had to remove these features which at time made it harder to understand how a character feels.
- Also as a result to this having to seem realistic, some smaller things such as scenes from the original where harder to re-create e.g. Scars 'Be Prepared' song was shortened quite noticeably because they couldn't have Scar jumping about doing such unusual things for a lion to do. Another example of something having to change is when the hyenas are chasing Simba away, Kamari (hyena named Banzai in the original) instead of being pushed into the thorny bushes by Shanzi and Ed (other main hyenas) stops with the other two at the top, realising how dangerous it would be to go down there. This is just another way of being realistic which is fair.
Joker (2019)
most important message of tis time - better then Ledger?
This movie is astonishing,
This movie managed to tie all loose ends. The outstanding acting makes the movie so much more believable and realistic, and every character is designed perfectly and have major role in the plot.
The camera shots in this film are perfect, mostly wide blurred shots slowly creeping in making it so much more disturbing.
Plot - This movie is so disturbing and gritty just as it should be, it shows what really can happen in life when a person with mental health issues or even a healthy person that has hit rock bottom and has no one to help them 'back' up.
- The message is perfect for the times we live in, in 2019, the rich and healthy should not be separated from the sick and poor; from the mentally challenged. We should live in a society where anyone can be helped and anyone can be heard no matter what level they stand at, before they spiral.
