Stuart: A Life Backwards (2007)
How do they become who they are?
Every criminal, no matter how bad has stories that wake the empath in you. There are incidents in life that murder the innocence in people. When did they become who they are and why did they become who they are? Wasn't it us, the people around them? Couldn't we have listened, couldn't we have understood? What does it take to save a boy?
..
A picture of Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy together led me to watch this movie and I hadn't expected what an emotional and thought provoking journey it would turn out to be. It was Tom Hardy's acting and Benedict's narration that made this movie so extraordinary for me that at times I felt like I was watching their real life stories unfold before my eyes. Tom Hardy is such a diverse actor.
Room (2015)
WOW!
I cried, I definitely cried, not once but maybe throughout the entire movie. I thought the movie was going to end when a major event took place, I was like Oh that was quick, what more could there be? I don't watch trailers or read description before watching movies(but I do check the rating) so I did not know what to expect. The fact that the story was kept so pure and so beautiful even after the end of the major turning point makes this movie one of my favorites. The child actor did everything so perfectly. That look of innocence and curiosity in his eyes really made him look like a baby who had just landed on earth.
Match Point (2005)
The story of a very lucky dude
Chris is an incredibly lucky man. For someone who came to London from Ireland with nothing but some tennis skills and to become so rich and successful in such a short while, everything must play right in life and that's what happened to our man, well except for the part where he has to murder two people, one of them being someone he loves. The first half of the movie was slow and I did not know where it was going but damn, everything went by so quick towards the end, I had to rewatch every scene twice. Damn, if I only had that luck.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Mildred Hayes only wants closure.
Fracnes McDormand portrayed beautifully the character of a mother who wants closure on the case of rape and murder of her daughter and what makes her role even more powerful is the fact that deep down; apart from blaming the incompetent police force of the town; she holds herself responsible for this, even though she denies it when someone else points this out. I'm surprised by how a movie based on such a sad context can manage to provide bits of comedy, as dark as it may be.
Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (2019)
Beauty in emotions
For someone who generally finds most love stories crappy this movie had a different appeal to it; by different I mean different in a good way or might I say in the best way possible. I've always loved female centred movies and this being a female only movie makes it even more special. I watched this movie not knowing what to expect and I'm surprised by how fine this turned out to be despite the fact that it had so limited characters and very few locations. The emotions portrayed in this movie either by the characters or through the art is what makes the movie so powerful. This is definitely one of my favorites.
