Evil Dead Rise (2023)
What the hell did I watch? Is this even a horror?
Firstly, let me start by saying that this movie has been mislabeled, it should be labelled as comedy with some fantasy/horror elements even so it was completely devoid of any psychological/suspense built-up.
The demons are literally jesters, they are so dumb that you can lock them out and stay safe inside as they won't be able to find out how to get to you in spite of their supernatural power.
The characters are even dumber.
You find a book that obviously looks sinister, locked with very sharp tooth like bones near by a tomb, you bring it home and open it and read it even though it has obvious sketches of demonic entities. As if that not dumb enough, you play the records attached to it and curse the hell out of your home!
Believe me it's not one of those movies where people call them "it doesn't take itself seriously" it's actually SILLY!
Nope (2022)
Boring, cringe and pretentious
Why the hell is this thing marketed as horror? There's nothing horror here. The movie tries to build up to something horrific, and then something in sky appears as a cloud, sometimes as a plane and then as medusa, and then they all gang up to try to kill it. I FOUND myself cringing when that thing appeared, it just looks so stupid, cartoonish and uncreative.
I don't care if there are symbols or hidden messages in this movie, it's painfully boring. If you still want to go to watch this movie, make sure your phone is fully charged because you'll need it to endure this movie.
Daniel kaluuya did way better in Get out then this.
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
A good effective twist, and this time it doesn't take it self seriously like the orginal
This prequel followed the concept of "Don't breath 2" where the antagonist is basically turned into an anti-hero, so there are way crazier characters. It somehow didn't work well for Don't Breath as the whole sequel was unnecessary, but it is done impressively in this movie as it's actually the plot device. My only complain though is that there could have been additional psychopathic family members or relatives against Ester, but that could collide with some information revealed in the original. At least the son's friends could add up to the body counts. It was very interesting to see how this sociopathic dwarf would handle other psychopaths and I can say that the mother did really step on her nerves and almost finished her but Esther was seriously lucky this time to have survived this. The family were a lot more horrific to be honest but unfortunately the time Ester spent enduring them after the reveal of the twist felt very short.
There is an effective change of genre, the original movie was more of a psychological mystery thriller. This time it switched to a crime slasher that doesn't take itself seriously and as we know this particular sub-genre comes with a bit of comedy which is a new thing to this franchise.
Don't Breathe 2 (2021)
don't breath: cash grab
I believe the writers had no idea as to how to make a sequel for the original but they needed one anyways to get a cash out of it, and the result is a disjoint mess.
1. The bad guys acted threateningly nihilistic in the beginning like a serious sadistic cult but eventually turned out to be a stupid gang as usual being there around the blind guy for a reason.
2. They wanted to a perform a highly serious heart transplant in an abandoned hotel with only one creepy surgeon. Really? Do they have to be this dumb and delusional?
3. Dogs are very loyal creatures yes but they don't have sense of moral. So if that dog was raised by evil gang, it would be impossible to domesticate it and turn it against them with just an order. Unless of course the blind guy is an enchanter.
4. And you get the all stereotypical horror/thriller characters within a cult/gang (stupid weird looking freaks used as killing machines, cold blooded idiotic leader, gothic entitled queen hyena of the cult, and the one who has a good side to him and betrays the gang)
5. This is definitely not a horror movie. The style of the movie does not fit in the horror genre, there isn't any suspense or scare or any mystery or any other elements that indicate it's a horror movie. It's an action thriller, slight on the action and more on the thriller.
The blind guy was definitely portrayed as an antagonist in the first events of the first movie, so i prefer the evil version of the blind guy although it was controversial in the sense that the blind guy was home and the protagonists who broke into his house.
Candyman (2021)
Unnecessary humour ruins it for me
Most of the horror movies that we get today aren't even horror movies, they are just comedy movies with horror elements that you find most of the audiences in theaters are laughing instead of feeling scared supposedly. But I, on the other hand, understand that it takes a huge effort and creativity to come up with an actual scary horror movie, and that's why writers and producers tend to stuff comedy into their horror projects so that they aren't taken seriously and criticized harshly.
Comedy should have no place in horror movies PERIOD, that comic relief approach worked for "get out" because the concept of the movie allowed some room for that, it didn't work for "US" and made it forgettable and silly for an otherwise original movie, and i see that it ruined the total atmosphere in CANDYMAN.
Spoilers:- This movie is just about random stupid people saying Candyman in front of mirror to get themselves killed, nothing more and nothing less. The whole evil thing could've been avoided had they just lived their lives like normal human beings with functional brains.
Quite frankly, the plot device is itself really stupid. Why would people summon an evil that just eliminates everything in its way? I mean people normally would conjure something that fulfills dreams and wishes, but definitely not something like Candyman, whom they actually knew that it is a very ruthless and deadly spirit. But again, I'll show some understanding for that part also, because horror movies should always have stupid people.
Characters: all of them are stupid with unlikeable personality, let alone the cheesy acting.
How many times do we have to watch "stupid teens summoning evil spirits in schools"? Seriously get rid of that cliche!
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021)
Not as intriguing as the first chapter
Total atmosphere: The horror, suspense and tension in this part are completely missing. The oven scene in the first movie is better than all of this movie. This says it all, the beach room wasn't smart and creative at all.
Characters: the male character from the first movie is a burnout, wasn't interesting anymore and quite useless to me unlike the females, he fits very well in the first movie but doesn't do well here. The females were interesting except Amanda who was completely wasted and ruined, appeared in a scene then just disappeared for a stupid unnecessary twist. She said if you didn't see them dead then it didn't happen, then how they killed the priest and kept that guy? Wow i don't even remember his name for how uninteresting he's even though he survived the first movie
I personally don't want a sequel, what else? Are they just gonna go through the escape rooms again and again and again? And zoey would resolve all of them and survive again?
A crime/horror detective type of plot would be suitable for a sequel.
The Forever Purge (2021)
The best Purge movie by now
Don't let the reviews fool you. The Purge has always been an underrated franchise in my opinion. Each chapter of the purge franchise was special in some ways, and The Forever Purge takes things to a new level. This is the first franchise that managed to combine horror with action in a distinctively good way, and it was fresh compared to amount of tedious supernatural horrors that we get them all the time
The Purge: basic home invasion horror movie / The Purge Anarchy: The best cinematography / The Purge Election year: More creepiness / The First Purge: more ethnic / The Forever Purge: Apocalyptic and (Best relatable characters)
Personally I wouldn't mind a new installment, if they are gonna stick to the maturity and seriousness that i felt in the Forever.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
Overrated and nothing new happens
Firstly, I appreciate that the producers respected the name of the movie and kept it as quite as possible, because I thought the movie wouldn't be quiet anymore after watching the trailer.
We already know that the deaf girl is a natural genius survivor but there was no need to make her unnaturally genius that can solve and figure out everything and defeat every monster in the movie.
Why did the two adults take the deaf girl with them when they wanted to distract the alien? Logically speaking, Why would they bring a child with them in a dangerous suicidal mission?! The new male lead actor was just there to fill the role of father but he wasn't interesting to me to be honest.
Emily was literally wasted in this film, the movie focused more on her children and how her annoying boy finally managed to overcome his fear of course after getting his family in trouble several times.
Come on guys, this is a movie not a saturday show. Why so slow? The story has only moved 10% forward? Are you planning for more 10 parts? God forbids!
This movie did not manage to steer clear of the cliches
Do you remember the copycat movie about the blind bats produced by the netflix? This time Quite place retaliates and copies some of its elements lol! The crazy cultists that capture the people and endanger them? Have seen this in walking dead, bird box and the silence.
I hope that the next part doesn't pick up itself from where this part stopped, this kind of direct continuity comes with a really slow pace that makes the movie very short. We knew everything, the characters were developed enough and the two weakness of the monsters were already discovered and are enough to ward them off. It's time for a time jump or a new cast in form of military personnel or scientists to understand the origin of the monsters whether they are extraterrestrial or manmade biological weapons or whatever, and of course wrap it up next time.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Tedious, uncreative and cliched
It's clearly that there wasn't enough effort put into this movie like the previous two conjuring movies. It's like they had no plot so they grabbed every cliched idea from every horror movie and fit it into this movie, it is no different than the last insulting Annabelle comes home, which was nothing more than introduction of new cartoonish evil characters that the producers would probably throw in the Cinemas in the coming years in form of spin offs. It was very hard for me trying to stay awake during the movie.
People trying to solve the case through locating sites on the map? Sinister / Lady wearing gothic outfit? Insidious / Priest pointing a cross towards a levitating possessed person resulting in broken windows? The rite and every other damn exorcism movie /
Disbelieving police? Every exorcism movie / Courts? Case of Emily Rose / Exorcism performed in Ayslum? Deliver us from evil maybe or the devil inside
OMG nothing new comes out of this genre. All cultures around the world believe in Evil forces, I think it's time to explore something new other than the Hollyoodish flipped upside down cross
The story is a mess, there's people trying to solve a case of witchcraft, there's a man being exorcised, there's an old man hiding something, there's a police investigating on the deaths, there's a child being cursed, there's satanists, there's a witch. They all felt disjoint and uncreative to me.
And believe me the reason behind all of this mess was to come up with clips to create a marketing trailer, since the best parts were already in trailer. Watching trailer would've been enough.
It will probably end up making huge money like most of the franchise, profiting movies like this are why horror movies have become childish and underdeveloped. One successful masterpiece and then you get endless amount of stupid sequels.
F9 (2021)
Why this Movie suddenly turned science fiction?
The movie is totally silly and I don't think older fans would want this crap. The franchise has lost its character when the directors decided to modernize it and make it like one of these stupid marvel movies. I hate the trend of "universe" movies where they throw every year the same movie, the same plot with the same faces but new antagonists and antiheros to the fans just for the cash grab. One or two hit successful masterpieces and after that you get endless amount of unnecessary sequels carrying the same titles, who asked for this? This should've ended in this chapter. People can come back to life here? Cars can go to space? Freakish Destructive technology found in maze runner maybe? Watch it at your own risk.
Brahms: The Boy II (2020)
The boy part 2 is the worst sequel that has ever been made to a movie?
What's the point of sequels? Isn't it to explore the movie more and explain it further and give the answers to the wondering audiences? By the viewpoint of the producers of this movie, NOOO!!! It's to confuse you more and make you wonder what the hell you've watched.
Wasn't the doll lifeless and everything was actually orchestrated by the man called brahams living in the walls? That was the twist as far as i can remember. No the doll suddenly decided to be completely supernatural in this part, and no it was not meant to be psychological, the end almost confirmed the doll is supernatural. And this is the biggest hole in the movie. It was confusing all the time, the doll was moving its eyes and smiles, that was creepy but it is not what this doll was supposed to be! And the story had an open end, Please there is no need for a third part, this movie have died back in 2015 and remained there, this wasn't even a movie, it's cash grab.
