Loki: Heart of the TVA (2023)
Boring. I gave up after S2E2 but S2E4 reviews peaked my interest. Still boring.
To me, this is non-sensical boredom. I gave up after 2 episodes. Maybe the writers and producers are completely separated from the characters in the MCU and seem to have reinvented Loki to be the someone completely different and most certainly not at all like the badass character that we so love from the movies: that draw the crowds! So this isn't for me.
But the reviews of this episode S2E4 peaked my interest. After about 20 minutes, I fast forwarded to near the end. It has really let down the franchise. Who quality checks these things? So disrespectful to such wonderful actors to give them these ridiculous lines in a non sensical plot.
Blue Lights (2023)
For a 6 Episode Season, it needs to have something to hook you in
I must say that it is well acted and directed but is slow and really boring and I've stopped at the end of episode 2. In a BBC drama like this, the BBC has a fantastic reputation from delivering hard hitting and gripping story lines. I was so looking forward to this but it has fallen so far short and it's such a shame because this should not reflect badly on the actors because of the poor dialogue and slow story line. As well as the aforementioned comments, it lacks believability and doesn't hook you in: surely that's a clear requirement of a 6-season story: make it gripping leaving the viewers wanting more.
Come on, you can write better than this.
Nope (2022)
Really really slow, mumbled dialogue in places, very dodgy effects
Gosh, I'm not often minded to write reviews but honestly this is one film of which people should be aware. It's a mish mash of genres falling well short in all. For the first 90 minutes hardly anything happens. Trying to avoid spoiling, a major plot point was just left hanging.
Some very different and entirely incongruent effects left no sense of reality/continuity.
On dialogue, why do so many actors follow the Marlon Brando style of mumbling? Give it up, we can't figure out what you're saying half of the time!
Ultimately, this is a big failure at the hands of the director where he's provided an amateurish copy of the feel of thriller films from 50s/60s and has badly tried to insert some horror images.
The film has not been out for long and in the largest screen of the cinema on a Friday night having fewer than 10 viewers is it any wonder that cinemas are failing.
First Kill (2022)
Really Enjoyable. I wonder whether some of the scathing reviews have an objective?
I admit that I haven't finished the first season yet but it's really enjoyable and very slick. My own attention span is small and I've stopped so many very highly rated series and movies due to them being slow and boring. This is really enjoyable and well done. Congratulations to all involved and good luck for renewals.
Per my headline, I am concerned that some of the negative comments come from a prejudicial point of view. That's how it looks to me.
The Responder (2022)
Wait for the BBC to remove that awful high-pitched sound which ruins what's otherwise an excellent drama
It's so good and so well done but I've had to give up after 3rd episode because of that awful high-pitched sound that was added apparently to reflect his state of mind. I really don't want to watch on silent with sub-titles. I thoroughly recommend raising a complaint with the BBC to get that sound edited out before watching this excellent series that's currently not worth starting.
Dune (2021)
Not much to say other than really slow and very boring
I've never seen so many people check their phones for the time in the cinema. Couldn't wait for it to end and definitely not seeing part two!
The effects were great which gives it the 3*. The dialogue was mumbled in places so lines were lost.
Tenet (2020)
Wait for streaming service so that you can watch with subtitles
I waited a couple of days before adding the review just in case it was our local cinema. But no, I've read many similar comments. Right from the beginning, the dialogue was hard to understand especially in the early scenes where I couldn't understand a word spoken by Washington wearing his helmet. Actually, I thought that it could have been deliberate but throughout the film I kept shrugging my shoulders wondering what had been said. The film was confusing enough with some great ideas and visuals. Branagh and Pattinson were great which boosted by rating to 5. Otherwise 3.
The Irishman (2019)
I gave up after an hour. Far too slow and mumbled dialogue
I'm not a fan of gangster movies so it's not really surprising that I didn't like this. Well, I gave up after an hour. I watched with other family members and we paused the film within the first few seconds of dialogue... none of us could make out the mumbled words so we put on subtitles. We have a high quality sound system. I expect that if you like the formulaic gangster movie then this is probably for you. I'm happy that I've gained back over 2 hours of my life by cutting my losses.
