Fool Me Once: Episode #1.7 (2024)
The best episode so far
The best episode in this Netflix limited series so far.
I binge watch shows while actively avoiding spoilers on the internet. It's just what I do because I hate having to wait!
This penultimate episode has everything you could possibly want. Tension, drama, and intrigue aplenty.
Although the revelation that Joe killed Claire, and that Maya then killed Joe was fairly obvious from the start (although I didn't know the reason why), it was still extremely dramatic.
A plethora of red herrings throughout the whole series definitely did not detract from the overall story, although like other excellent Harlan Coben shows on Netflix it could have been 6 episodes instead of 8.
A few Americanisms crept their way into the script, which I suppose was to appeal to the USA, but as the show is set in the UK, these should have been weeded out; after all, Google is available to all to look up things/words that appear foreign to the viewer.
The cast was excellent. The writing/direction; everything was great.
Emmett J Scanlan seems to look younger with every passing year. Michelle Keegan was amazing, and Dame Joanna Lumley provided the most awesome performance (throughout the whole series).
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
Way too slow watching week to week
It was painfully way too slow watching the new (and a little bit later than scheduled) season of Twin Peaks from week to week. The pacing of each episode was excruciating!! I loved the originals. Twin Peaks was the "go to show" when it first aired, all those very many long years ago when I was just a fetus (honestly, I wasn't born yet when I first watched the show!! Honest!!). I was really looking forward to the new season after soooooooo very many years, but I was disappointed. Maybe when I get around to binge watching the whole season it will be a whole lot better. (The first episode was amazing though!!!)
Monster (2022)
Flawless performances but very slow
Flawless performances but very slow.
Whilst it's true that every single one of the performances are perfect and on point, and Even Peters again shows us what an excellent actor he is, I have to say that I found this difficult to watch.
Dahmer's victims don't seem to me to be portrayed in an exploitative manner, but I can't relate to the feelings of the families of Dahmer's victims. It must be extremely difficult for them to realise that the serial killer is remembered (and often inappropriately revered), when the victims are relegated to a backstory. Unfortunately this seems to have been the norm since the term "serial killer" was first coined. When will this change? Who can say?
I do think that his victims were portrayed in a very sympathetic way in this series and I really felt for them, especially knowing what their fate was, but I also feel that this production attempts to humanise the monster that Jeffrey Dahmer was and I find that very very hard to stomach.
Prodigal Son (2019)
What idiot cancelled Prodigal Son?? I mean REALLY!!!!
Honestly, what idiot cancelled this excellent show?
Engaging stories, developing characters, flawless acting all around.
I've watched both seasons 4 times so far. This is extremely re-watchable. So much so, that I bought the DVDs.
I prefer binge watching shows every time because I'm too impatient to wait for weekly episodes.
Of all the characters, I gotta say that Keiko Agena as Edrisa Tanaka is my favorite. Her performance in all of her episodes draws the viewer in. Funny when humour is called for and serious when required.
This is a wonderful show. Who knows what it could have become, if only it had been allowed to grow?!?!?!?!
Blame (2021)
It had potential?
I think there is the possibility of a good film in here somewhere, but, the acting is bad, the script is a little cringy, and every character is extremely annoying in their own way. A little disappointed that more of the characters weren't killed off. Maybe I was wrong, maybe there isn't the possibility of a good film in here!
Scream (2022)
Loved this
Loved this.
SCREAM (5) had a refreshing story which has bred a new lease of life into the excellent franchise. I think Wes Craven would approve.
Loved the return of Billy Loomis and of course the horror movie references throughout.
My only gripe is that Gale didn't successfully kill Dewey's killer.
Bring on SCREAM (6)
See for Me (2021)
I was pleasantly surprised
I was pleasantly surprised after clicking on this by accident. Good story, well acted, with a neat twist at the end. I'd watch it again. It has a unique spin on the "coming from inside the house" trope. Not a bad way to spend 90 minutes.
The Surrogate (2018)
The acting isn't that bad.....
The acting isn't bad bad, but the script is extremely obvious.
I managed to make it all the way to the end (others didn't), but it wasn't worth it. Do yourself a favour and skip this one.
Lost in Space: Final Transmission (2021)
30 minutes in
Approximately 30 minutes in, there is an actual WTaF moment (lean forward almost fall off the couch!!). Humour, peril, the Space Family Robinson, oh; with "Dr" Smith and the awesome Robot. I love this series. 3 seasons is way too little.
Who's That Girl (1987)
An underrated film
I admit that I'm a huge Madonna fan; ever since the 80's; when I wasn't even yet a teenager. I find it frustrating that every film she is in is disparaged simply because of her involvement.
My mum has never even 'liked' Madonna; but had to put up with me playing her music at full volume for a lot of years, and even she likes and laughs (appropriately) along with "Desperately Seeking Susan", "Who's That Girl?", "Shanghai Surprise" and so many more.
Madonna has been seen as an easy target for a long long time. But if you actually take the time to watch her performances, objectively; you will be pleasantly surprised. The movies already mentioned, as well as Body Of Evidence, Dick Tracy, A League Of Their Own, Evita, The Next Best Thing show that she is NOT as bad an actress as the mindless masses would have you believe.
Even my mum likes her, as well as my 13yr old niece;
So don't listen to or believe the spineless "so called critics" who jumped on the bandwagon through the 80's, 90's & 00's. Be honest with yourself and don't be a sheep.
Airplane vs. Volcano (2014)
Really really really???
Within the first 3 minutes of this film I must have said "Really?" out loud about 40 times. Bad acting, bad script, bad special effects, BAD EVERYTHING!!!!
I thought that the whole idea behind making movies, at the end of the day, was to make a profit. I appreciate that some people think they are talented and have a great story to tell, but surely someone comes along at some point in the process and says "This is a turkey! No money".
It would appear that this doesn't happen often enough, given the number of low budget trash movies out there with negative ratings and making a loss.
Someone must make some money along the way, so, if anyone is reading this that wants to pay me for a bad screenplay and/or bad acting; hit me up please.
Thank you 😊😊
Fright Fest (2018)
A nice idea, but a terrible film.
Where to start?
Thankfully it's only 87 minutes long. Any longer would have been cruel and unusual punishment, and I haven't done anything wrong!
The script is bad. The music is bad. The direction is non-existent. The special effects and makeup are awful. There is no acting ability on display whatsoever.
Avoid at all costs and find something better to do with your 87 minutes.
Eli (2019)
Not what you think it is........ No Spoilers
I just finished watching this movie and I have to say that it's excellent. Brilliant performances from every single actor involved. Lili Taylor is amazing as always.
A special shout-out has to go to Charlie Shotwell who plays Eli: this kid puts in an awesome performance, and is surely destined for a great career.
The film moves at a great pace and is wonderfully written and directed.
I hope there's going to be a sequel because I for one want to see what happens next.
The Serpent (2021)
Painfully slow
The production values are excellent and it looks amazing, but it's painfully slow. I lasted for 1 and a half episodes before I had to give up on it and switch off.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Shadowhunters: Better than the books.
Stick with the first season and see it through. Season 1 is made a little cheaply, probably because of the failure of the movie "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" (although I personally liked it- BTW It has a great cast). The 1st season is NOT terrible. The 1st season is fun and exciting, although the Alec and Magnus storyline is WOEFULLY underplayed. The budget was significantly increased for Season 2, and, as a bonus, the Alec and Magnus storyline was allowed to grow.
In both the movie and the TV show Alec and Magnus (MALEC) are HAWT HAWT HAWT.....
The storyline where Jace and Clary may or may not be siblings has NEVER been plausible: Hello DNA!!!!!!!! Shadowhunters and/or Mundane's are not stupid - they've all seen CSI for goodness sake!!! Lazy writing.
On the whole, the TV show is amazing; especially from the 2nd season onwards (although the 1st season has a special place in my heart). The acting and the script are on point (it differs enough from the books to make it so much better).
The Shadowhunters fandom (ShadowFam) has been so vocal from day one and will continue to be this way FOREVER.
Shadowhunters was cancelled because of money and this has never sat well with the ShadowFam and it never will. Who knows where this show could have gone if it had been allowed to grow!!!!
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Perfect. Hysterical. Inclusive. PERFECT
I can't believe that this show lived on my watchlist for soooooooooooo long before I finally watched it on Netflix (finished it 10 minutes ago). I watched the entire 6 seasons in 4 days during Covid-19 Lockdown (I had to work sometimes! Otherwise I would have watched it quicker ). Schitt's Creek is perfect. I laughed out loud at every single episode. I'm gonna miss this show so very very much. Schitt's Creek is the best written show in FOREVER. Bring on the DVD/BluRay release (which I hope will of course have a plethora of extras and bloopers)
The Truth About Charlie (2002)
I tried.........
I tried to watch it. I wanted to like it, but this might be the worst film EVER
Gods of Egypt (2016)
Not terrible
Not TOO bad, but the CGI is a letdown. It's obvious and not convincing at all, especially the scenes where the GODS are shown in proportion to mortal man. There doesn't appear to be any consistency whatsoever. Could have been so much better.
