Army of the Dead (2021)
Action Zombie fun!
Action/zombie movie, non stop fun! This movie is fantastic! Not brooding like Zack's other films. This is just s**t loads of action. If you like hardcore action, blood and gore + zombie movies this is the s**t. Ignore the negative reviews, this will entertain you totally 😉👍
Framing John DeLorean (2019)
80's saga, damn good
You couldn't make this stuff up!! If you love cars, nail biting thrillers, gorgeous models, secret Swiss bank accounts, 80's drug lords, corrupt cops and a real life character who started out a hero and became a villain this is worth a watch!! This NEEDS to be turned into a feature film, academy awards for all.
Operation Odessa (2018)
I'd travel back in time to 90's Miami to hang with these guys
If time travel were possible I'd go back to 90's Miami and join this crew. What these guys did beggars belief!! And thank goodness it isn't a rubbish Hollywood movie with a left wing bent where the cops always win. This was real life and the 'bad' guys won and beat the cops and the drug lords. Most entertaining doco I have seen in a long time, had me leaning forward in disbelief listening to what these guys did!! Worth a second viewing for sure!
Yellowstone (2018)
Sons of Anarchy in Cowboy hats
This series is Sons of Anarchy in cowboys hats on horses instead of motorbikes. Characters, plots etc almost identical to sons with a few twists and some originality. If you liked sons like I did you'll probably enjoy this. The landscape is the real star, beautiful country, stunning visuals and scenery, makes me want to move back home to the country and out of the city for good.
Greyhound (2020)
Hanks does it again another WW2 movie
Tom Hanks needs to do 1 more WW2 movie to make his own genre trilogy. Greyhound was a suspenseful thriller with excellent naval action. Only negative point is it was too short, should been a 2 or 2.5 hour movie. Great action all the way thru, great tribute again to the greatest generation. Excellent direction and cinematography, made it feel like you were right there with the crew on Greyhound.
The Last Days of American Crime (2020)
Heist movie, what's not to like!
Like all heist movies it has a twist here and there and keeps you on your toes. Has a few cliche characters, dialogue, all heist movies do, so what?! This is 2.5 hours which suits it perfectly, it has a simmering burn that keeps you wanting more if you're prepared to stick with it. If you do you'll be rewarded, the plot twists means it doesn't have a bs Hollywood happy ending, perfect. The acting, directing, production quality is great. I'll be kicking back and watching it again soon.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Not a Ritcher oinker
It's not an oinker or a stinker at all - need to watch it to understand that. Really very well written and acted, ones of Guy Ritchies best films in his very own style. Loads of twists, double backs and second guessing. It's one of those movies you kind of need to watch twice just to enjoy all it's subtleties and nuances.
Midway (2019)
Action movie set in WW2
It's an action film set in WW2, that sums it up. It's not gritty or very realistic like the better WW2 movies eg Saving Private Ryan or Hacksaw Ridge. It's basically a WW2 action movie. Having said that the dog fight scenes are outstanding and the CGI is pretty awesome. If you love WW2 fighter planes, you'll totally enjoy this as much as I did. Great to see an all star cast in it also.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
James Cameron adds no value & Tim Miller sucks.
Cameron being involved in this did NOTHING but add a name to the credits. I see no real influence from him at all. It was his franchise and he let it go and it turned to poo. This has brief glimpses of what could've been awesome but falls short. T2 was the best in the franchise. I thought Terminator Salvation was good and had great potential to reboot the franchise without Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger does pretty well in this and he's the only reason it's worth watching, the rest of the cast are quite ordinary and the directing from Tim Miller is awful.
The King (2019)
Henry V as he's never been portrayed
Most realistic and believable account of Henry V and the battle of Agincourt as a movie. Excellent script, acting, direction, sets, costumes etc, felt like I was actually there in 1415. One of the best movies Netflix has made to date.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Jack Ryan gold 👏
Season 1 was good. Season 2 is excellent. If you loved the late Tom Clancy's books with intertwining plots and loads of intricate characters you'll enjoy the series more than any of the movies made of Clancy's books. Can't wait for season 3.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Bit of a gem from Sandler
Sandler plays a total loser in this rather tense and intense crime thriller drama and it's surprisingly damn good! Kept me engaged and I couldn't quite work out how it would end but it caught me off guard which was perfect and exactly what the directors would've been going for!
6 Underground (2019)
Kinda good & kinda meh
Michaels Bays 'cinematic language' is highly recognisable and I like that. He is amazing with scene choreography and visuals he creates in movies, this is visually stunning and filmed extremely well. The plot is ok I suppose. For myself personally Ryan Reynolds ruined it, he's just the same irritating, quick mouth Ryan he always plays. But if you're a fan of Ryan's, you will go nuts over this movie.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Slaying Rambo Style
Fits in with the other Rambo movies very nicely. If you're a Rambo fan you'll enjoy Last Blood!
Bit more character development with Rambo suffering PTSD and how he's dealing with it. Plot is very simple but the movie ends spectacularly in a very 'Rambo' style. It is a Rambo movie after all. Be great if Stallone could just do 1 more Rambo!! But this could be the final one unfortunately.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
2nd Star Wars movie is the best of the lot.
It's the 2nd Star Wars movie far as I'm concerned, don't care much for the creator George Lucas re-jigging the order of the movies nor re-jigging some scenes in the original 3 movies decades later. It's the best of the lot, including all the new movies in the extended Star Wars world. It's a great story and has this intimate but epic quality to it that makes it feel real yet mythical at the same time.
Casino (1995)
Has set a benchmark for decades
Casino has set a benchmark for movie making that will stand for decades! So much attention to detail from all involved, direction, acting, cinematography, costumes, score, editing etc etc etc. The pace and story telling totally capture you and the movie is gripping from start to end.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Why was this movie even made??
Great acting by the cast, only positive thing I can write. But why did this movie even get made?? It's terrible! Did someone owe taxes? or a favour? or was it contractual with a production house? It's dull, plodding, no plot whatsoever, just a waste of time. But if you're a fan of the cast you'll probably enjoy their acting which was on point.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
My breakfast was more interesting.
Terrible way to end such an amazing saga. Infinity War was excellent! This is so dull and full of massive plot holes. Personally I would've preferred to see a massive hunt to find and destroy Thanos with him playing a major part in the movie. Instead Thanos is confronted early on and then it's all a load of rubbish from there.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Impressive
Great acting, cinematography, the race scenes where outstanding, good story tho obviously no surprises in the plot but the acting and characters really made this a stand out👌
The Irishman (2019)
A bit plodding 😬
Amazing scenes and pieces of great acting but overall a bit over indulgent by Scorsese. It's wayyyy too long, for example the last 30 min could've been completely cut out. The pace overall is far too slow and plodding, it could've been amazing but has fallen far short of amazing and well down the list behind Goodfellas and Casino.
