Animal (2023)
John Wick once killed 3 guys in a bar with just a pencil...A solid 8 for this Action extravaganza by the Indian Film Industry
I will attempt at analysing some of the reactions & largely polarising reviews this movie has received from critics & audiences alike.
Excessive violence - Viewers, this movie is part of the action genre. Recall some scenes from the Western & International cinemas where the same set of people were in total awe of the violence shown on screen and in some instances with body counts & gore far greater than in Animal. Eg. Battle of the Bastards, Ramsay Bolton's death, Theon Greyjoy's dismemberment & several other far more brutal scenes from GOT. Gruesome scenes from the The Revenant for which Leo DiCaprio won an Academy award. The entire Saw franchise hailed as responsible for reviving the horror genre. The list goes on.
Misogyny - there are tons of movies & tv series on OTT with Misandry in disguise of being Feminist & women empowerment. But staying on misogyny naming a few award winning critically acclaimed movies - The Wolf of Wallstreet, Babylon, sleazy item numbers, Bollywood sex comedies such as Garam Masala, Masti series, many of Akshay Kumar & Emraan Hashmi's movies at their peak etc. That passed as super hits.
So let's be real & give credit where credit is due guys. The folks making this movie have a done a darn good job & I will await the sequel.
- Movie buff from Sydney, Australia.
The Gray Man (2022)
This becomes one of the few memorable & re-watchable Netflix movies
As far as Netflix movies go, there hardly has been something worth remembering. This movie would not only be remembered as a decent quality action thriller but also has high re-watchability quotient. Chris Evans was interesting as the antagonist, Ryan Gosling would remind one of John Rambo's character. I was hoping to see Ana De Armas's & Dhanush's character fleshed out with a little more depth and wish they had been given more of a role to play as they are both capable of carrying out complex roles. That said, I rate this movie 8/10.
Raajneeti (2010)
A severely under-rated Indian Cinema classic!
What do I say! A gem of a movie from Indian Cinema (Bollywood). As an Indian who's been living in Australia for two decades, any Bollywood movie that's acclaimed to international standards is only something that makes the Indian diaspora proud. Rajneeti is a thoroughly re-watchable (my third viewing) and gritty political drama that delivers not just from a story-line/plot perspective but also from power-packed performances delivered by some of the highest caliber talent which our Indian film industry has to offer. Kudos to Prakash Jha, Ranbir Kapoor, Nana Patekar; Arjun Rampal; Katrina Kaif & how could I forget; Manoj Bajpayee who deliver exemplar performances in a water-tight plot to deliver a highly gripping, yet memorable political drama! My hat is off to you, all!
