Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
Garbage sold as arthouse
We used to love Twin Peaks back in the day. The twisted little town with it's interesting residents some of which had very enticing stories to tell used to really work for us. It was captivating, engaging and very interesting nearly all the way up to Fire Walk With Me. In short, we loved Twin Peaks and couln't get enough.
When we discovered there was a third season being made that connected to Laura Palmers word 'see you in 25 years', naturally we were thrilled and couldn't wait to watch it. And then we did and something interesting happened..
We totally loathed it. It was like everything we never hoped for and it actually damaged the way we thought about Twin Peaks in a very bad way. There was nothing here that we liked. Cooper, once a truly charismatic character was degraded to an old man with the mind of a two year old. The other characters that were on the 'old' show felt like they were just written into a totally different story that in no way felt connected to Twin Peaks. Yeah, sure occasionally we were 'treated' to shots in Twin Peaks but nowhere did it ever once feel the show was about the small town we loved so much. It was about Vegas mostly and other cities but the small town seemed just there to justify the title of the series.
The old characters that were there didn't help the show in any way, maybe only Hawk did, and the new characters, well to be frank, we mostly didn't like them too much. Episode 8 was a nightmare in so called artistical freedom and affirmed to us what we already knew, this 'Twin Peaks' truly sucked.
I could go on about it, but you get the idea. In short we didn't like the new cast, felt sorry for the old cast, didn't like the shift in story this show took, didn't like the plainly stupid scenes of a guy cleaning the flor for what felt like ten minutes (there's just no point), we didn't like the musical score (apart from what was already there of course), we learned to very much dislike characters like Gordon, Cooper, Lucy, Andy and a host of others that were formerly favorites and to finish off we were evetually sorry we kept on watching when we knew it was going absolutely nowhere. A waste of time, a very bad one...
I can only hope this inspires you to look elsewhere and keep the way you feel about Twin Peaks safe from what this monster will do to it.
The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot (2018)
Wanted to but couldn't like it..
What an odd movie this is, and I don't mean in terms of what goes on on screen or in terms of story or events that unfold. It's just that, the movie starts out rather strong. The entire 'who killed Hitler' part is good, well performed, interesting and allthough slow.. it seems to work. Then a transition takes place working the entire thing into the ánd then bigfoot' part which just totally loses everything it up to that point managed to set up. Bigfoot, the on screen thing, is a joke and a very bad one. It looks ridiculous. The story behind this part of the movie seems off and not connected to the previous part of the film. It kind of feels like two brothers made a movie, one a decent filmmaker with a good story and the other brother not good at all with a story that could have worked in the hands of maybe someone liek Robert Rodriguez but falls completely flat on it's face in the hands of who instead produced it.
It makes for a great movie title, yes it does! But the finished product feels like a few different stories that just don't connect well. Like the love story. It could have worked well with the 'Hitler' part, but it just kind of doesn't. It certainly does not work with the 'Bigfoot' part.
Yeah the actor playing the lead does a good job, sure the cast is interesting and overall the story seems very interesting. But viewing it, it just didn't really work very well and I just couldn't like it the way I think I could have when there would have been more cohesion. As it stands it's a sloppy collection of interesting scenes mixed with poor choices and again a ridiculous version of Bigfoot. Not for me..
Hope Bridge (2015)
Highly recommended to never ever watch..
As a Christian but also as a frequent moviewatcher I went into this thing optimistically, hoping for a good story, a strong message, powerful performances and perhaps even more. Unfortunately what I got was quite the opposite. The cover says: 'Booboo was amazing', my question to that is: in what movie? cause it certainly wasn't in this film. He is just there, period. Allthough he is supposed to be the lead character, nearly all other actors and actresses put more effort into making this thing work than he did. Don't get me wrong, I bought this dvd, wanted it to be great and as far as giving it a fair shot goes I too lost my dad to suicide, but not once did I even come close to identifying even remotely with the character Booboo tries to nail. Kevin Sorbo can do nothing to turn the tide and I really think the man was desperate for work when he took on a role in this thing what could have easily been a school filmproject.
Could this have been great? Probably not great, but decent, compelling or at least interesting would have certainly been an option, yet Hope bridge does not deliver. Is there a Christian element in there, a message that brings people to Christ? Definately not! Another missed chance. No, this movie went down so bad with me, that I threw the dvd away almost right after watching it. It was all I could do to get some satifaction out of it I guess..
So in short: Acting is horrid (Booboo being far, far from amazing), the story is predictable and weak, characters are uninteresting, the message is lost due to building frustration and the viewer just losing any interest and finally, I really don't get the movie title. Could anybody please explain why this movie is called Hope bridge? Sure I get the bridge being part of the story, but 'Hope' Bridge? Come on!
