John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch (2019)
Breaks new ground
This show did something very unique, and it executed it very well. There was a perfect blend of cute, satire, and pure comedy. It's pacing was well done, the acting was great, and it feels like the kids show that actually would be for the kids of today. The slightly cynical side of the show gives an interesting look into the youth of today, not in a condescending way, but in a way that inspires the possibility and beauty of the modern youth!
Blown Away (2019)
Incredible Introduction to the art but...
This show had some excellent characters as well as the art itself. However, at the end of the day this was a competition.
At the beginning, I was completely unaware of the craftsmanship involved in glass blowing, and am incredibly happy with the educational aspect of the show. However, as many other reviewers have said, the ending is quite horrendous.
From episode one, I had a feeling Deborah was going to win because of how she was "different". In the school of Post-Modern art, and only in that school, can you justify her winning. The thing is though, is that Janusz also took a Post-Modern approach in his last piece and executed it perfectly. A quote from the show "I would say straight out, that Janusz is probably the best glass blower we've had in the competition," yet he did not win. Another, which I think summarizes the disappointment everyone feels for the ending, "One is a perfect technician (Janusz), and the other really has a good concept (Deborah)." The whole Feminism concept is important to point out, however, I do not think that it makes sense in her setting. In an office space or more "white collar" jobs, yes, inequality is prevalent. In the art world, especially in the more artisan side of things, the level of entry is incredibly low.
To conclude, Deborah's concept just does not make any sense, and the show itself speaks of its own inability to judge properly.
