South Park: Joining the Panderverse (2023)
It's hilarious
South Park has always been poking fun at both sides, and this is another example of that. There have been plenty of funny scenes in this special. I think no matter what "team" you're on, you'll enjoy this.
First, you have a "They took our jobs!" comeback, but this time the hillbillies are actually the educated people today who will get replaced by AI. They even protest with signs saying "Capitalism doesn't work!" That's hilarious. And then there's laughing at how entertainment industry panders way too much these days, with a focus on Disney.
I think we can all agree that in the end, there is a balance to be had, and we shouldn't go to extremes. No racism and bigotry, but also no mindless pandering.
Let characters be who they actually are, don't change their original identity for profit, but also be open to new diverse characters in a story. Otherwise, I'm afraid we're going to open up a portal to the Panderverse.
Anyway, does anybody know how to fix a broken oven door...? I can program for you, or give you dieting tips, anything you want!
Futurama: Parasites Regained (2023)
It's the best episode of the season so far
After the previous 3 episodes, I can definitely say this is the best one. I find it weird that so far this episode has the lowest rating. I would say, watch it and keep an open mind.
To me, the fourth episode felt like classic Futurama, but instead of traveling to a weird planet, they travel to a... litter box. Lots of Dune references will be made. Sorry, I mean, Doon... G. We also get to see more of Nibler, Leela, and Professor Farnsworth's silly inventions, and just the crew's crazy adventures. The pacing is great, as there is no moment that is boring. Every second is either important to the story or joke. So what can I say, I felt entertained. I would honestly love it if all new episodes were like this.
Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023)
I had fun watching this
Just like Mazey Day, this is not the typical Black Mirror episode. But I found this episode to be a bit better than Mazey Day. For one, it's longer and I had more time to empathize with the characters, and also it had a better ending. It's pretty much a movie at this point.
This is a story about a quirky demon who tells the main character to commit crimes, no surprise here, you'll encounter this soon enough. I find the premise to be interesting enough. The actors who play the main character and the demon are well cast. They also did a great job really making it feel like it's 1979, no complaints there.
What you will be left wondering until the end is... is this real or not? Is the character imagining all of this, killing people because she's gone crazy, like her mother, and because she's living a really depressing life... or is she really committing crime because the hilarious demon's actually real? It could go either way, and I found it enjoyable to wonder what's the answer.
Again, this is not the usual futuristic theme of Black Mirror. I do get that people want more futuristic stuff, that's what got me into the show as well. But the producers are trying to make the show be a more diverse in its themes, so if you keep this in mind there's no reason to hate it. I think we'll see more of this in the next seasons. The writers are probably a bit tired focusing only on the future. Personally, I would like to see both types of episodes, futuristic and some odd ones as well, makes things more interesting.
Black Mirror: Mazey Day (2023)
It's entertaining, even if it's not the usual Black Mirror
I can see why this episode has a lower score, the reason is this: it doesn't fit the Black Mirror theme too much in a way that I won't explain because it might spoil the episode.
But if you take the story for what it is, you will actually find it very interesting and entertaining. I think what happened here is the producers are experimenting with adding something different to Black Mirror. In the past, some people complained the show is a bit too one-dimensional regarding its theme. Well, now they added something different and people don't like this either. You can't please everyone.
I think that if they make 1-3 episodes like this, that are pretty different from the usual ones (depending on the season size, of course), it will enhance the show, as long as the rest of the episodes are in their usual Black Mirror style.
All I can say is, I would definitely watch more like these. Only fault I found is that the episode is a bit short, but at least it doesn't overstay its welcome. This episode won't make you think very deeply or anything, it's just an entertaining episode.
Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea (2023)
Great
This was such an interesting episode, but I have to detract a point because of something that I believe to be inconsistent character development. You'll get what I mean when you get to that point, at the end. Maybe some people like this, but I just don't think it's consistent with the way I think things would've really played out given a character's history.
One thing I find cool about this episode is that it's about an alternative reality in the past, not in the future. So it's strays a bit from the Black Mirror formula of everything being in the present or future. However, it still has a lot to do with technology.
Another thing that need to be mentioned besides the story that you won't find surprising... the acting is absolutely great, it really makes you empathize with the characters. And that's awesome, because this story is very heavy on the emotions.
Black Mirror: Loch Henry (2023)
Suspenseful
This is really hard to review without spoiling anything, because there is a lot of suspense in this episode and not a lot of answers till later in the story, but, I'll give it a shot anyway.
Just from the beginning you know something is unsettling, but you just wonder what. So what I can say is that the writers did a good job keeping you on the edge, wondering what's this all about. The acting's good, directing, all of that, typical Black Mirror.
This episode doesn't have much to do with the future though, it's more of a commentary about some current trend in society. You'll get to see what that is later. All I can say is, job well done and entertaining episode!
Black Mirror: Joan Is Awful (2023)
Very enjoyable, but not perfect
I had a great time watching this. It's Black Mirror, alright, about situations that could actually exist in the future. To me, it's plausible that something like this could happen given how many technological advances are happening now in 2023. EXCEPT... one thing related to security is complete bollocks, which is I'll give this a 9/10 instead of 10/10. Like I said, it's not a perfect 10, cause writing got a bit lazy towards the end... but everything other than that was great writing. This episode is also quite amusing as well. The acting is a bit overly dramatic, but it's intended and it fits the theme. Overall, I can say this is a strong start for season 6 and I hope that all other episodes are at least of this quality.
American Dad!: The Professor and the Coach (2023)
An improvement over the first episode
This is not on par with the quality of the older seasons, but it's a much better episode compared to the first in the season, and dare I say, almost all episodes in the previous two seasons.
We get to see Roger's crazy shenanigans again. I just love how fast he changes personas and how ridiculous they are. In my opinion, Roger is the best character in American dad, and I'd love to see more episodes with him. The story in this episode is an analogy to "writer's block", where Roger pretty much does anything he can to prevent himself from writing. If you ever wrote something then maybe you can relate a bit and have a laugh. So, not an amazing episode, but it gave me some laughs. Was worth watching!
American Dad!: Fellow Traveler (2023)
Something happened starting with Season 17
As the title says, something happened starting with season 17 that changed American Dad for the worse.
The team working on AD started missing the essence of what the show was. There's no clever writing anymore that really surprises you with its jokes, the characters are too quirky and random, the storylines are not interesting. I have not bothered to check if they changed writers or not, but either way, something happened with the team making the show.
Consider this episode, for example, Fellow Traveler. Do we REALLY need to know Roger's backstory of why he's able to change personas so well? It feels like they're running out of ideas. If you would've just shown him as a crazy, sassy alien on his home planet, that would have been much better. Show us what stupid things he did on his home planet as Roger, because THAT'S where he actually became that way, not on Earth. It's just poor writing.
Westworld: Well Enough Alone (2022)
It's a masterpiece, just pay attention
Took me a while to realize what was happening... but when I did, I wanted to clap. You'll see what "Halores", a Dolores deviation, has in plan for humanity. It's getting more and more interesting. And the music, camera work, pacing, dialogue is just beautifully done. It's quite a complicated show that doesn't stick to just season 1's limitations, like most want. The show is evolving, just like the hosts, and this is why it's so great.
Black Mirror: Metalhead (2017)
This episode is full of action
After the borefest that Hang the DJ was, I am so glad to watch an episode full of suspense from the beginning to the end. If you like the concept of humanity vs AI, you'll probably like this one. All I can say is, don't let the low ratings fool you.
Black Mirror: Hang the DJ (2017)
Boring episode but good ending
I wondered why this episode is so highly rated, when for example, the previous episode in this season (Crocodile) is so much better, being filled with tension and twists the entire duration, but rated much lower. It turns out people just really like romance that much, that they won't mind boring story development. Really, the only good thing going on in this episode is the ending. You'll watch almost an entire hour of boring relationship scenes, with no plot twists, suspense, or drastic character development, just to clap at the plot twist at the end. It's a pretty original idea, but a minute at the end just doesn't make up for the rest of the episode. For me, this is one of the worst episodes of Black Mirror and another reason to not trust user ratings.
The Northman (2022)
Do not let the negative reviews stop you from watching this
Sometimes, I wonder why I even look at movie ratings, because I know it's all subjective in the end and no one can decide for me if I will like a movie or not. But even if I am still looking at reviews, someone who is aware of how reviews work, how about other people who are only led by high ratings? There are people who will only pay attention to something once it's popular or is highly rated, so I will add this 10 to counter-balance the 1s.
Now about the movie itself, it contains a lot of dialogue and it's not full of action like you'd expect from the trailer. I suspect this is why many people don't like it, but for me there was a perfect balance of action and drama/scenic shots. So if slower type of movies do not bother you, there is no problem here. I do not know a lot about Norse mythology, so I cannot say much about the authenticity of the clothes, sets, etc. But I can say that the movie felt authentic to me. For those two hours I felt like I was living the story. It also did a good job portraying Vikings as they probably were, war-hungry people, but also spiritual.
If you like Conan the barbarian, give this one a shot as well. It's a similar type of movie and it's great.
American Dad!: A Song of Knives and Fire (2022)
Below average
This one's slightly better than the last episodes, but it's still below average for American Dad. The best, truly awesome, episode in this season (so far) is episode 2, Dressed Down. The rest of the episodes are pretty bad, and I'm saying this as someone who watched all episodes and still thinks American Dad rocks, unlike The Simpsons or other rundown sitcoms.
American Dad!: Dressed Down (2022)
A great episode
This is an episode centered around Stan, about how he feels unnatural/awkward in casual clothes at barbecues. Roger's eccentric persona helps him overcome his problems. I found the "meaningful little messages" Roger engraves onto his clothes hilarious. There's a funny side story about cruelty-free eggs involving Hayley and Jeff. This episode was hilarious all the way through, 10/10 for me, no complaints.
American Dad!: Family Time (2021)
Wow, hilarious episode!
This episode and Dr. Sunderson's SunSuckers had me laughing out loud many times. The jokes are well-written, not relying on gross/shock humor all the time, and they don't base the episodes on some celebrity. Plus they all follow an interesting storyline and the episodes don't feel like a bunch of jokes stitched together. What can I say, American Dad still is great. Good writting!
American Dad!: Flush After Reading (2021)
Unique episode
Probably the best episode in the season. Pretty different from all the others in its theme, it follows a storyline closely, and the jokes are awesome. Roger is hilarious, as always.
American Dad!: The Wondercabinet (2021)
Still funny after all these seasons
This episode proves to me that this show still got juice in it, it made me laugh out loud a bunch of times. It's not just this episode, really, all the episodes in this season have been great. But so far, up to episode 6, they've all been funny and very different from each other. Good job on this season so far, writers!
American Dad!: The Old Country (2020)
Great episode, fun song
It's another episode where we get to see Steve sing, and it's a fun song! As for the episode itself, it's one of the stronger episodes from this season. Give it a watch!
American Dad!: Businessly Brunette (2020)
Very enjoyable episode
One of the best episodes in the season, even though the season started off as weak. It had a storyline which it tried to follow, and didn't get interrupted by too many "meme jokes."
American Dad!: First, Do No Farm (2020)
Great episode
This is one of the funniest episodes I saw in a long while. Tons of good jokes relating to the story, as opposed to directionless/random jokes. Also, the idea of the episode itself is refreshing.
Westworld: Crisis Theory (2020)
Progression
Most shows just drag on and on without progressing the storyline or developing its characters. Westworld is not like that. And especially not season 2 and 3. For those who expect a predictable, mindless, and time wasting series, this is not for you. If you want to see the story progress in a very enjoyable and twisting way, you'll love this.
