It Follows (2014)

Boring, cheesy movie

Sounded like a great idea, but very poorly executed. Breaks it's own rules early on. The critics loved it, and when the critics love a genre film that's usually a sign it's not very good. One star for the soundtrack.

This is how you make a revenge film. A great concept done masterfully by amazing actors

I loved this movie , even if it did upset me greatly in the beginning. You WILL care about the main characters struggle and whether or not he susceeds. Evil was very well represented in this film , to a horrifying degree. Poetic justice has never been so very sweet. Not a movie for the sensitive, but it's compelling. You'll be so invested in the outcome you won't even notice it's in another language.

The Descent (2005)
8/10
One of the greatest British horrors ever made.

Focusing on the fear of claustrophobia with the simple dread of the unknown, The Descent puts likable characters in frightening situations. As a horror fanatic, this film floats at the top of my list of best scary films in recent years. The setup feels like it moves quickly and seamlessly into the main storyline, but that's because it's so beautifully shot, well-acted, and scripted so that we know and care enough about the characters to worry once they belay down into the dark cave. This character knowledge carries weight throughout the movie, as the group variously splinters and works together to escape. Shocks and jolts start before the central scare appears. And props to an all-woman cast that feels totally natural and not slapped together to achieve cheap feminist self-congratulations. Well-acted and atmospheric, I recommend this movie to anyone wanting to see a solid, scary horror movie that doesn't reinvent the genre, but definitely strays from the norm.

Dark, unsettling, brooding. Well done and immersive.

A genuine, new, non-stereotyped horror. With "The Witch" we finally get rid of all those horror cliches that dominated the genre during the last years: no jump scares, rivers of blood or disgusting splattery scenes. "The Witch" goes back to that movie school able to scare and upset just with the power of a great, solid plot and a dreamlike, suspenseful direction.
