Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
Maybe the best animation ever produced. / É, talvez, a melhor animação já produzida.
Winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Film, "Spirited Away" was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, one of Japan's greatest animators. Through a fantastic and surreal narrative, he involves us in the adventures of Chihiro, a spoiled and fearful ten-year-old girl who is moving to a new city with her parents. But during the trip, due to her parents' curiosity, they end up getting lost in a ghost town. There alone, the little girl must overcome her fears in a world full of spirits and monsters. The film has a beautiful aesthetic, with vibrant colors and excellent sound editing and soundtrack. Throughout the film we see how the situations imposed on Chihiro promote the evolution of her spirit, in which she must prove her courage, humility, wisdom, and resistance to the moments of oppression she is subjected to. Chihiro becomes a symbol of how to maintain her tenderness and values even in the face of the greatest adversities. A magical film!
It is interesting to note that it is a very rich movie, both for adults and for children. It is a great work about maturation and transition between childhood and adulthood.
The wonderful handmade animation was produced by the amazing studio Ghibli, leaving any 3D animation of today in the dust.
I wouldn't trade this film for any other Disney or Pixar movie.

The Fighter (2010)
Great film.
Here we have complex characters, no one is totally bad or good, and each decision weighs heavily.
The feature film is about overcoming, where the weak can go against all odds and still be consecrated, in a happy and exciting end.
The film has dialogues that are very well elaborated and intelligent, with a well-structured script, managing to cover all the personalities involved, and has great performances by Bale, Leo, and Adams.
It is worth mentioning the great soundtrack, the photography, which despite being "raw", is very functional in reminding us of the time in which the film takes place.
Based on a true story, The Fighter is a great sports movie and about overcoming, a full plate for those who like good dramas and a good boxing movie.
The Northman (2022)
Robert Eggers surprises again! / Robert Eggers surpreendendo novamente!
Here Robert Eggers proves to be one of the best filmmakers of his generation, in this film he blends action blockbuster with art cinema in a brutal, gripping, and masterful plot, wrapped arround visual pyrations and animalistic acting scenes, with a focus on Nordic mythology and Viking legends.
The feature films delivers bloody battles, brutal conflicts and all. Eggers uses great visual work to tell this story and goes beyond the traditional to deliver a true modern epic, which should become the best film of the year for many people.
The Northman may not be for everyone, due to the visual pyrations placed in several parts of the film, but it ensures that even in those moments where it seems we won't understand where the director is going with all that, we have something beautiful to see on screen during these passages.
The script follows the clichéd hero's journey, but the elements of horror, witchcraft, the action sequences, and Alexander Skarsgård's dominating performance are the spices that make it more than just another Viking film. Fortunately, Eggers knows that to create a film classic, you don't have to reinvent the genre from scratch, just make something brave, strong, and fun within what you already have.

Robert Eggers surpreendendo novamente!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Sam Raimi tried his best
I can tell you, this movie has the face of Sam Raimi, whether it's the presence of Bruce Campbell or the details of his direction, the feature manages to convey the feeling of other movies of the director.
I was very happy that it wasn't another generic movie, but it still ends up being a Marvel movie. At several points it had to go down some meaningless paths, ending up giving more importance to references and fan services than adding weight to the plot.
The script is broken, it relies heavily on the idea that when things are lost something comes along exactly to solve that problem (ex machina), this is annoying at times.
Wanda is unstable according to the script, she is very powerful at one moment and not so powerful at another. She is simply stopped by a problem that a simple human being would have. I agree that it is hard to work in the script with such a powerful character, because you can't get him in a balanced environment, for that, the movie ends up developing a trivial problem for the character.
Overall it's a fun movie and I like Sam Raimi's direction, but still the script is very problematic and if it didn't have Sam Raimi's hand, the movie would be much more forgettable.

Collateral (2004)
Interesting, but, it had more potential -- Interessante, porém, tinha mais potencial.
Here Tom Cruise appears as a cold and calculating hitman, hired to eliminate five people involved in a drug trafficking trial. He is in the city of Los Angeles just to do his job, but he will need transportation to get him from one place to another, and, by a twist of fate, the one involved will be the cab driver played by Jamie Foxx, who is the protagonist of the story.
Foxx and Cruise promote a harrowing, claustrophobic cat-and-mouse game, which matches the narrative imposed by the director.
Jamie Foxx manages to convey all Max's shyness and naiveté at the beginning, which will develop into changes along the journey. On the other side, Tom Cruise brings a thorough work that highlights Vincent's coldness, lack of empathy, and objectivity. However, other big names present in the work end up being wasted by a script that doesn't give them much material, such as Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem, who have little to show here.
Finally, the movie presents an engaging plot and an atmosphere that holds the audience. Even with an energetic and realistic tone, decent editing, photography, and soundtrack, the film ends up being betrayed by an unstable script that falls into several clichés.
