The Mole: The Bird Cage (2022)
Season 1, Episode 8
5/10
Kinda stupid episode
8 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show, for what it is, works overall, but this episode has a downright ridiculous outcome. Spoilers ahead: The only reason the guys didn't make it, was because the pizza delivery guy kept driving in circles instead of going to his assigned destination. Yes, i know. It's a reality show, but there really weren't any way for them to get the money. Almost as if the producers chose to enlarge the impact of Avorie overlooking/pretending to overlook the missing pizzeria phone number, which - though dramatic - would be downright stupid logically speaking. Its probably the least interesting episode of the series thus far, which is sad hence the premise of hide and seek is so good, and the clues and location are all well realised and executed. Meh.

Exceeded all expectations
15 October 2022
I just saw The Origin at Sitges Film Festival 2022, and I'm so happy I chose to watch this movie.

Without getting into the slightest spoiler, the film takes place thousands of years ago, which makes makeup and costume designs incredibly important. Luckily everything looks great (aside perhaps from a haircut or two, but I'll let it slide, hence I'm no expert on the subject) and the acting is equally impressive. The actors all speak a makeup language, made solely for the film, and they still manage to come off convincing. The script is great - there's a few scenes we've seen in other film of the same genre, that being survival thriller/horror, but the film manages to stand on its own feet for the vast majority of the movie. The locations are beautiful and the camerawork is simply stunning. There's also a great core-message underneath and several thematics throughout the film.

Surprisingly for this type of film, the pacing is good for the entirety of the movie, and my only gripe is that there is a few cliches along the way as well as a message that regardless of importance is a bit too explicit towards the end.

8/10.

Deep, viceral and unique. Yet challengingly ambitious
15 October 2022
I just saw everything will be ok at Sitges Film Festival 2022 and it's a tough watch. The film does everything it sets out to do in a brilliant manner and the film is both visually, audibly and ideally impressive, which makes it so devastating that the medical is frustratingly challenging.

Everything Will be ok is a movie that very few people likely Will see, and it really shouldn't be. The film is an highly original piece of protesting art, and I cannot give whoever made the visuals enough credit. It's masterfully done and riveting to look at. But it's also 98 minutes of still pictures and disturbing real videos from the flaws of mankind. Regardless of innovation and importance, the film is sadly hard to sit through for the average film enthusiast. I for one enjoyed it, but it was my impression that I was part of the minority, and understandably so.

It truly as a remarkable achievement that I wish everyone would have the patience to sit through without getting bored. Unfortunately, even I -with all my praise - checked the clock at some point in the film. I hate to say it and it might be the only time I'll ever say it in my life, but the film simply is to ambitious for its own good. It goes through 8 different provokes with human behaviour and society in a philosophical, psychological and scientific analysis which is combined with a metaphor, that is the description on the film. All this in a feature length film which is best depicted as a fantasy blended documentary using claymation-esque sculpting and brutal archive footage.

It's a 6.0/10 for me.

Glorious (2022)
6/10
Extremely hard to review
14 October 2022
Just watched glorious at Sitges Film Festival 2022. If you can, watch it in a cinema. The response was incredible. Now for the review.

With a plot doomed to fail, Rebekah McKendry somehow succeeds in making an entertaining horror comedy. You can tell at times, that the budget is low, and the lead actor is over the top throughout most of the movie, and while it works sometimes, it does get a bit much at others.

Let's get one thing straight right away: it's labelled as a horror film. Is it scary? No. This ain't a horror movie. But Beside, the labelling, the film is great from a technical point of view. The camerawork is great, albeit not the most innovative, the sound is both believable and fitting at all times and soundtrack is great. Besides that technical assets, The plot is also surprisingly good and innovative. The takeaway, however, is the directing. Most scenes seem both original and thoughtfully cared for and the originality is undeniably impossible to ignore. Even the actors do a great job and both Sylvia grace from and J.k. Simmons are great throughout every scene of the movie.

The movie does suffer from some pacing issues but the innovation and flow considering the one location is impeccable. With all this in mind however, the film is so hard review due to its insanity. It's funny, haunting, captivating, original and surprising, but the whole situation is so jarring that it can at times be hard to concentrate on what's actually going on on screen. For me, most of it worked, but for most it probably won't.

Is it however the best horror film of the year? Not close. It feels as a gofundme funded movie. It really shouldn't exist, but it does, and it's awesome. Watch it in a cinema of with your friends on the couch. You probably won't be scared, but you'll probably laugh out loud.

The Elderly (2022)
7/10
Great directors
14 October 2022
Just viewed "Viejos" (elderly) at Sitges Film Festival 2022 and my feelings on it are mixed.

With the plot they were given, the crew did everything they possibly could. The acting, lighting, camera, Sound and Music is great throughout the entire movie and there's clear Signs of creativity and innovation behind the scenes. The actors playing the grandfather as well as the daughter were definitely the best actors of the film, which is overall interesting as well as impressive.

Unfortunately, however, the writing is quite dull at times. There's a lot tension as well as jumpscares at times, and the film itself is very creepy. Yet it Seem to be creepy for the sake of being creepy at multiple occasions. It's not that it's a slow burn and that a bad thing, it's more that multiple scenes seem like plot devices when they really aren't which makes it all seem convoluted.

It saddens me to say, because tethered so many good ideas. The movie makes comments on how we treat the elderly, climate change and grief both literally and by the use of metaphors, but many unnecessary horror tropes and a ton of underwritten characters (everyone besides the daughter of the main family) really drags everything else down.

The film takes an unexpected turn near the third act, but I personally enjoyed it. The first act however, not so much. I do hope to see more from the directors in the future and hope they - along side the great cast and crew - get praise internationally

In brief: Everything about the film was inpressive and the atmosphere and messages were great. Plot drags it down for me. Due to the many great factors, I score it 7.5/10.

Stranger Things (2016–2025)
8/10
Generally great and innovative! (Slight S3 spoilers)
19 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Review for the entire four seasons (slight spoilers at s3 besides that this review is spoiler free):

Season one was phenomenal. Mixing sci-fi, mystery, adventure and teen-horror it creates just the right amount of suspense without loosing pace and all while making the characters both engaging and likeable. Throughout the season multiple hints at famous films were thrown out by the creators of the series. They mostly work great as homages to great film classics without stealing too much focus from the series itself. These Easter eggs continue through the entirety of the series so far. It all feels authentic.

Season two introduced even more characters. Not all were equally great written but for the most part it works. The tone and atmosphere is more pg although horror fans will still enjoy the season. Theres and emphasised focus on bond between the leading characters and it helps the series making it more binge-worthy. There's one infamous episode that many fans dislike but besides that the reception was mostly great and understandably so. The series remain engaging although it does lack some of the charm from season one.

Season three is were I got bored for a while. It starts out fine but a more adventurous pg-13 tone is introduced and in my opinion it didn't quite fit. Alongside the more child-friendly tone a new arc also starts. A mostly innocent yet somewhat political America vs communism is introduced and the States-glorifying view is somewhat one sided considering how much bad the American agencies, politicians and even government has done throughout history (Vietnam being one of the most infamous examples). Paring the pg tone with politics and a sexualised baywatch inspired segment does seem somewhat indoctrinating to me and furthermore it does at times also seem somewhat forced. Politics aside the biggest complaint is the tone throughout the season. Besides from the negatives, a lot of good is also to be said about this season. New characters one of which is very likeable as well as more development for the previously introduced characters sets up great plot elements for the season to come and the climax towards the end of the season is great as always. Criticism aside, I do like this season a lot.

Season flute brings back the horror elements of season one and balances multiple groups of characters at the same time and it all works great in my opinion. All the characters gets at least a little more fleshed out and the more serious and mature tone fits the grown up characters a lot. It reminds us that this is not a series meant for kids. Certain plot elements do intervene ones from previous seasons - especially the hated episode from season two. The episode albeit hated shouldn't be thrown away in what can easily look like poor writing. Luckily the writing in this season is also the greatest in a while. Furthermore all my political criticism for season three can be reworked for season four where things are more balanced out. There's good people everywhere, there's bad people everwhere and no one is flawless. Misunderstandings play a huge part n the season as well as fear which play excellently into the time and age where the season takes place. There's a few characters that I wish would've gotten more screen time but the incredible writing and per usual great acting makes up for it.

Overall the series has a lot of great episodes packed with great pacing, costumes, writing, acting, directing, lighting, sound design and a mostly great tone and atmosphere as well as a few stunning cinematographic choices spread thoroughly the four seasons. It also offers some great music from around the time in which the series take place. I do recommend it although it does have a few obvious plot holes and questionable choices in one specific season. Not perfect but great nonetheless.

Season 1: 10/10

Season 2: 8/10

Season 3: 6/10

Season 4: 9/10.

Overall score: 8.25/10.

Surprisingly great!

When I first went to see this show I was fearful hence shows about people on the spectrum can seem mocking. Luckily this is not the case for love on the spectrum. Extremely heartwarming to watch.

Speak No Evil (2022)
7/10
Not a masterpiece but definetely a horror and definetely far from the worst film of all time
16 April 2022
This is by no means a perfect film. Various plot holes as well as thin characters and unnecessary scenes prevent that. However, Tafdrups intention was to make the most uncomfortable film possible and in that way he succeeded. This film will stick with you long after you've seen it. The pacing is odd, but intentionally so and it definitely pays off. Is it perfect? No. Is it realistic? No. But is it a great film? Arguably so. It's so sad to see that some reviewers need loud noises and jumpscares to call a film a horror movie. The movie is way more terrifying than a thriller and extremely gory and disturbing towards the end. Definitely worth a watch however don't watch it on a date... it's not that type of horror and I think I've traumatised my girlfriend. Oh well.

Lots of great qualities but not a great film
5 March 2022
As often with a famous franchise, there's good films and there's bad films. This one just isnt very good. The special effects are great, the acting is mostly good and the director had some fine ideas. Cinematography is good although obviously mostly CGI. Sound design is cool so why the bad score? All these things just can't make up for this boring convoluded yet extremely clichéd plot. It lacks the fun of the previous avengers films and the pacing could be better as well.

All in all, Its technically a great film, however, it's not a fun ride unless you turn your brain completely off - which should never be a demand for seeing a movie. It's a shame really; I love superhero films but some are good and some are just painfully overhyped by fanboys... and that's coming from a fanboy.

An appropiate score for this would be 4.3/10.

Unintentionally funny goldmine
16 November 2021
I'll set this straight right away. This film isnabsolute garbage. It's mostly nicely shot but bseides that everything about it sucks. The plot, the acting, the Sound and Music, the directing. This is a really bad film. BUT it's Also extremely funny. Characters do the most senseless actions and follow the clichést og clichés and on top of that we have tons of scenes that makes absolutely ko sense without an explanation (which we never get). I'll leave an example below but before reaching the spoilers, here's my rating.

So grest, it's great score: 1/10 So bad, it's good score: 7/10

---- Spoilers below ----

If all the unintentionally funny scenes, my favourite is probably when some random guy dies in the vent. He sits on a chair when he suddenly hears a Sound coming from the vent, so climbs inside it to check it out (as you do). On the way he grabs a hammer from the table and says "Damn rats". He never uses the hammer and there's absolutely no reason or explanation for him to grab the hammer and it's never brought up again, so why is it in the scene? Was his plan to kill "the rats" with a hammer? How hard would that be? It makes absolute no sense and it's what makes this film such a thrill.

Pew News (2018–2020)
The most reliable news source on the internet
30 July 2019
I usually hate watching news, but with Pew News it's different. Pew News offers a large variety of both male and female reporters including: Gloria Borger, Poppy Harlow, Guillermo Arduino, Alleged Nazi, Michelle Obama and many more! And while some of them, at times, says their opinions, they still manage to remain unbiased. Also, I usually hate the news channel intros but the intro to Pew News is just to great to hate. The only bad thing about the show is, that all the reporters are currently busy playing minecraft and therefore don't have enough time to give us them precious news updates, but that's understandable, and it's a valid reason to put the job on hold. I've loved this show since it first aired in February 2018 and I'll continue watching it as long as it lasts.

Without a doubt the funniest comedy ever made
4 July 2019
It's hilarious I'm every way and I've been quoting it since the first day I saw it. The plot is thin, but does that really matter? It's hilarious. Watch it, then watch it again

Fear the Walking Dead: The New Frontier (2017)
Season 3, Episode 2
What happened with the script?
4 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Near the end of the previous season, the writers were on a track. The well executed choice of killing Chris made a change in Travis' character that would later be explored and built on in season 3. Well, that could have been the possibility if the writers didn't kill Travis off in the worst way possible. He just randomly got shot in the head while sitting in a flying helicopter in a way that doesn't even make sense if you look at where the shots come from. Travis death is such wasted possibility and it's sad to think about what else thy could have done. It makes Chris death completely unnecessary too. If you look past Travis, yeah the episode is fine. It's probably as good at most other ones in this show but nothing special. It's just hard to look past something like that. It's moments like these where you start wondering if the actor just didn't wanna be a part of the show anymore or what on earth happened. Disappointed

Dark (2017–2020)

The only show I give 10/10
21 June 2019
I've watched a lot of tv-shows and I really mean it when I say A LOT of shows and this one really stands out from everything else I have watched: the cinematography is masterful, the score is incredible, the story is both original, phenomenal, clever and extremely well thought-through, the acting is mostly great, especially considering the younger actors. Except for this, "Dark" manages to follow its own rules for time travelling without somehow messing them up, unlike most sci-fi on tv. If you don't hold anything against tv in a different language than English, then you really need to check this show out. My only flaw is at times the acting, however have in mind that this is rare and that the acting is usually either good, great or superb. Haven't ever watched a show that came this close to perfection, 10/10
