National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
Laugh Again and Again!
This Christmas Movie is the funniest ever made! My family has watched it every Christmas since it came out. The casting is excellent. Chevy Chase as the lead and Beverly D'Angelo as his wife make the perfect couple. She loves him in spite of his crazy ideas. She supports him as well as his kids, who follow him to the forest to cut down the Griswold family tree! The neighbors are also hilarious as yuppies that have to deal with the crazy neighbor with the tacky Christmas decor. From bright lights shining through their windows to a giant icicle that destroys their stereo. Julia Lous-Dreyfuss is similar to her character, Elaine, on Seinfeld. All of Griswold's relatives show up for Christmas, including Cousin Eddie. Eddie drove a filthy travel trailer up to the curb of his house. He brought his slobbering dog, "Snots" with him and his two 'ragamuffin' children. Cousin Eddie's family could be the poster-family for 'white trash'. Get this DVD and you will find so much to laugh at each time you watch it!
Unaccompanied Minors (2006)
Cute, better than expected
This was so much better than expected. The boy who played Charlie was excellent. I hope to see him in more movies. The story was mostly fun to watch as the kids decided to take their misfortune of being left with a room full of a bunch of crazy, undisciplined children of divorced parents. When seeing this it will make you think twice about leaving your kids fate in the hands of an airline. Right after I saw this movie a real life unaccompanied minor called his parents from the airport after walking unsupervised from the airplane into the airport. The airport director is a scrooge, he won't allow any Christmas decorations at the airport. Charlie, gets separated from his little sister and decides she will get a the Christmas gift she wants, even though they are far from home. With the help of his new friends, they set out on a mission to reunite Charlie with his sister. The characters are all from different backgrounds, but they have chemistry. The child actors are excellent and shine in this movie. I think some of the extreme scenes, like the one in the 'unaccompanied minor room' is to entertain younger audiences, but wasn't so ridiculous to lose older ones like me! Go see this with your kids! You won't be disappointed.
Deck the Halls (2006)
ho ho hum
This movie started out with good intentions. The small town was likable. With the actors in this movie I thought it would have been much better. How sad that this movie had such a WEAK script and plot and far fetched situations like the way that DeVito 'sold' Broderick a car. There was no chemistry between the characters. Bad attempts at subplots involving his relationship with Broderick's family were left at mere attempts. I am a fan of Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation and wanted to see at least a Christmas 'decorating war' -this was not even close to the humor and great characters in 'vacation'. I will also be hesitant to see another movie with DeVito and Matthew Broderick in them.
Night at the Museum (2006)
Fun for All Ages!
What a fun adventurous movie! My three teenagers, my husband and I enjoyed this movie. The plot leading to Stiller's character being hired as a night watchman was believable... I know a few people that go from job to job looking for the "right" one. The relationship between his ex-wife and him was also believable and there was not the typical screaming and yelling going on between most movie-exes. I was pleasantly surprised in the handling of the obvious caring between the parents as well as their child. The excitement begins when Stiller's character is left to care for the contents of the museum. The animation was great, it reminded me a little of Indian in the Cupboard. Robin Williams plays a great Teddy Roosevelt, everyone should remember that Teddy was our 26th president of the United States! This show also has educational value. What a surprise! I found out my 14 year old knew about the Roman Empire, The Till of the Hun, and other historical information presented in this movie. Find out if Stiller's character finds his own direction and greatness while learning what is needed for the job. There are life lessons in this movie- although they do not shove them down our throats! I cannot leave out comments on Dick Van Dyke! He was GREAT! The man can still dance and act better that a 30 year old! Although Rooney's character was very strange, Rooney did the best that someone could do with the script that was given. I will definitely buy this DVD when it comes out!
Take the Lead (2006)
If you like dancing... Watch This!
Although not as "deep" as Save the Last Dance, this is a great DANCE movie. I was not a fan of Ballroom Dancing before I watched this, but now I am. My son's girlfriend went home and immediately starting looking for a Ballroom Dance School! I love to watch lyrical, ballet, and hip hop, now I can add Ballroom! I also agree there are some unresolved issues in this movie. This is a fairly big problem for me as I cannot find any information on the web to answer the questions. I would like to know, also, what part of this movie was fiction and non-fiction.
Overall, Tony Banderas, very hot and sexy, and perfect in this role, was great acting and dancing. The only cast that was disappointing was Yaya and the Asian kid. He overacted that I wished I could leave during his parts. On the contrary, the white girl that joined the ghetto dancers was cute and believable, and the rest of the 'ghetto' kids were fun to watch dance. I liked the interaction between the ghetto kids and the 'white' kids. The challenge between them was just tense enough without getting too ugly. :} Now, I want to play my Save the Last Dance DVD again...
