Night Train (2023)
Not quite.
I'm really not quite sure what I've just watched.
I admire the fact that it got made and the production quality looks pretty decent.
All the leads are easy to look at and that just doesn't represent the real world now does it? For some reason the primary female lead is always in the tightest tank top, tightest jeans and huge pumps, probably forcing some character trait down a viewers throat.
The secondary female lead is a mess and not in a PTSD, character flaw way the writer intended. She's supposedly a federal agent who has some issues but there's no depth to her at all on screen - she's just a crack head cop.
And finally this male lead, the criminal drug dealer is pathetically nice and sounds educated, like every drug dealer I imagine.
I haven't written a movie or directed one so this is purely my opinion, which is worth very little.
The Batman (2022)
Nowhere near where it could've been.
At first appearance, a dark and seedy batman seems like a great idea.
The execution on the other hand ... meh!
The movie picks up in the middle of batmans life, facing a cast of villians, penguin, riddler, cat woman - just too much. Everyone is whispering, like for the whole first hour. The story didn't connect with me at all, sorry.
The Tourist (2022)
Not as bad as suggested.
Look Aussies are a sensitive bunch, we all have a chip on our shoulder most likely stemming from the convict days.
The people in small towns aren't as depicted in this series. They're helpful, kind and always polite. The script isn't entirely bad, I'd say it's just been written by uniformed non Australians. It does feel as though they've tried to FARGO it. The cinematography is amazing, probably a few too many drone shots if anything. The cast is decent too, certainly feels like the production value was high.
Very happy to see something made in my home state.
Hunter Killer (2018)
Meh
Having been blessed with such fantastic military drama pics like zero dark thirty, clear and present danger, black hawk down and so many others, this doesn't rate at all in comparison.
The script is average, the casting is average, the scenes are totally overcooked and make allowances for the bad writing. If you have watched those three above and rate them, then you'll be able to appreciate what I'm saying.
If not, knock yourself out.
Manhunt (2017)
Pragmatic
The first season was good bordering on great. Performances solid, cinematography in sync. The second season however is a bit of an anticlimax. The story is fantastic but the acting in season 2 is average, particularly the FBI sequences. The 2 agents, the taskforce, their weapons - it's all wrong.
Felony (2013)
Little Gem
Edgerton is quickly becoming an Aussie favourite in my eyes. Whilst the screenplay is a little generic and predictable, the turns are solid with Wilkinson head and shoulders above the lot.
The procedural element feels somewhat organic which is a very welcome change from the cringe of Aussie police dramas, I'll put that down to sound direction.
A Perfect Day (2015)
Fresh
A cohen-esque take on war and the aid workers that survive it. Tim Robbins and Benecio Del Toro absolutely deliver in this movie. The big plus is it's like nothing else out there.
