Dia (2020)
9/10
A love Story Which Gives You A Glimpse Of Beauty And Tragedy
3 April 2020
Dia is directed by K.S. Ashoka, it tells a story of an introverted girl name Dia Swaroop, who's life brightens up when she falls in love with Rohit, a girl who is quite introvert in nature, someone who is very shy, it's her journey about how She express her love to Rohit and Theron how are life completely changes. After reading the synopsis you might think that this is just another love story, but bear with me this film is nothing like you anticipate it to be. There's this one dialogue which has always been said in the movie " life is full of surprises and miracles" the entire film is just like the dialogue. There are certain miracles which happens to the main character that it give her a new perspective towards life but there are certain surprises (mostly bad) which really challenges her life where she has to make certain decision which she has to live with the rest of her life. There are very few movies like Dia where the characters feel more like people than the actual movie characters, their conversation which revolves around love and life which doesn't feel like the dialogue to give depth to the characters but feels more like the type of conversation which people would have. These characters just feel so much more human in their nature, that I was emotionally connected with them, despite the runtime of just 2hrs and 16mins I never even once wanted this film to come an end. Movies like these create their own little world where it attracts the audience in such way that you might never want to leave it because you are so emotionally connected with these characters that if the movie comes to an end, it means bidding a goodbye to your closed ones. I rarely feel such connection with characters in movies but with Dia I did. But to make such characters so emotionally investing you need to have actors with amazing acting skills and let's talk about the main lead performer Kushi Ravi. According to IMDB this is her second film, and although I have never really seen her first film but here she is absolutely brilliant. She really captured the essence of a simple introvert girl so graciously, her simple dressing style her quite and peaceful voice and the way she always looks away whenever Rohit sees her is just so fitting. She was definitely an amazing choice to play the lead role as she captured all the emotions flawlessly. Aside from Dia there is another character which I absolutely adored, that character is Adi played by Pruthvi ambaar who is also really amazing in this movie. Once this character is introduced that's where the movie really becomes more interesting and more thought provoking as this character also plays a very important part in Dia's life. And his scenes and moments with his mother ( played by Pavithra lokesh ) who he always calls Lakki are some of the most heart warming motherly sons moment ever put in screen. Apart from the very strong characterization, the overall filmmaking is done really well there are some beautifully filmed scenery shots which are blissful to the eyes and mixed with amazing soundtrack done by B Ajaneesh Loknath are very peaceful and relaxing. The climax of this movie is definitely heart breaking, this is something where I have mixed feelings towards. If you are someone who is very light hearted then i would suggest you to not watch the last 20 mins of this film as it is filled with nothing but suffering and tragedy for our beloved characters. Because in those last minutes there's nothing like feel good or heart warming moments which we were used to. By concluding my review, I'll say this that Dia should not be ignored, just because it's not a Bollywood blockbuster filled with popular stars doesn't mean that it's not good movie. It's the type of movie where Bollywood should take lesson about how to make a romantic movie right. This film may not be available in Hindi language but please do watch it. Read the subtitles and watch it the same time. As Bong Joon Ho (Director of Parasite) once said "Once you overcome the one inch tall barrier of subtitle, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films" Dia is a film experience which I'm never gonna forget, it will remain as one of the most saddest romantic film in Kannada film industry.

Overrated

Now by the title you must be thinking that I'm one of those people who just for the sake of being a idiot calling a really great film not so great cuz I want to standout, well NO! I really and Genuinely feel like into the spider verse is quite overrated, now do not confuse overrated with bad, at the end of the film I actually found myself really enjoying this one, I watched it with my lil brother who's a massive Spiderman fan we really had a great time, the characters were enjoyable, the humour was good, The animation was jaw dropping it was spectacular, the story was good, the villains could have been better but the director gave the main villain a backstory which I would say for the most part is convincing but not anything we haven't seen in tons of other comic book movie but he wasn't a hindrance so not a big issue for me... Cuz this film really focuse on the journey of miles Morales which I was never really interested in, but this movie did the character a justice and he served his purpose well so what went wrong? THE FAN BASE I watched this movie pretty late, I waited for this movie to come on OT platform and it did and I watched it, basically every reviews I read about this movie everyone was praising how brilliant this movie is.. what an amazing time people had in the theatres.. hailing this movie as not only one of the best comic book films of the year but one of the best movies of the year.. some of the latest reviews that I've seen people count into the spider verse as one of the best films of the DECADE! and I was like OHK. fine I'll watch it then. Now I didn't watch this movie with sky high expectations.. whenever I watch a film I try to watch it with as minimum expectations as possible and into the spider verse was no exception in that way I can enjoy a good movie to its full potential and to watch really bad movie by not getting too frustrated And after the film I was entertained but I was thinking what was in this film which made people really appreciate it's quality talking so many great things about it which made this film won an OSCAR for a featured animated film where some other movies like A Silent Voice, Your Name, Wolfchildren, The Wind Rises, When Marnie Was There and Grave Of The Fireflies. were not even considered for Nominations and into the spider verse was. Although I've already lost my faith in OSCAR but I thought people really had a better understanding of what should be great and what not should be Look I'm not a hater of this movie and I'm not being a harsh critch either. I like this movie I would rather was 100s of into the spider verse than one Homecoming or Far From Home but I wouldn't exaggerate by counting it as one of the greatest.

Emotionally Resonating yet Satisfying
11 September 2019
War for the planet of the apes is the third installment to the trilogy, the previous two films have been amazing. Rise of the planet of the apes was pretty underrated for what it delivered, didn't got the enough recognition it deserved nonetheless it was a great watch. Dawn of the planet of the apes was a fantastic sequel it was pretty dark in its tone, however the story telling was on point and the characters were memorable. The first ape film which is rise was about ceaser character about his origin or where he belonged, the second ape film which was dawn is about ceaser leading the pack of apes, where humanity has gotten extinct due to their own hunger of power of science and technology, and third film focuses on ceaser's journey where he is dealing with the toughest time of his life, which will lead him either to his death or salvation. War for the planet of the apes is an excellent third installment to what has become one of the greatest trilogy of all time, this movie is emotionally powerful. In this movie ceaser is the most broken, the most vulnerable and is also filled with lot of hatred, the guilt of losing the people he couldn't protect, his journey has been explored so perfectly where you see a great character development in him. Matt reeves has returned to direct the third installment, he did a great job with Dawn and has done a fabulous job with war. This is one of the best visual story telling movie I've seen, the CGI of the apes has just gotten better over the years, in war the level of details in these characters is just fantastic, they look very photo realistic, the CGI has been done by some very talented people who deserves a pat on their shoulders, the cinematography is also brilliant as some of those shots look very beautiful. Andy serkis has definitely given an Oscar worthy performance here, in previous two movies he was amazing, but Andy serkis has never been this good in any movie that he has ever worked in, his character is just so broken so deep, his performance really makes you feel sad about him and even the supporting cast gave very satisfying performance. In this movie we get introduced to two new characters that is mute girl child (her name is not mentioned because that's a spoiler) and bad ape. The little girl in this movie who was mute for the entire film had to relied on her expressions to give a good performance, and she was great in this movie some of her moments with ceaser and Maurice were adorable, in this very dark story telling movie some of these sweet moments were a great addition, and the character of bad ape could have been a problem as his character is comedic, but he was handled very well, and some of his funny scenes were a nice touch of humour and really added something to the movie. However, this movie did a false marketing, making people believe that the movie will be action packed buff, with its title war for the planet of the apes, many people that it would be action packed extravaganza, but it wasn't. This movie does have some of the actions scenes, but most of them were just in the beginning of the film, after that the film a deal dramatic story visaul story telling movie, it didn't hinder my experience as the story building and the character development of this movie was so great that at some levels this movie even exceeded my expectations, but that's isn't the case with everyone, as some people I know were disappointed due to lack of war type action scenes. All and all I think war for the planet of the apes is a beautiful film and really closes the trilogy in the best way possible

Beautiful from Inside Out
10 September 2019
I've been a huge fan of the original blade runner, I think it's one of those cult classics which not many people talk about, however after few years people started appreciating the beauty of that film. The original blade runner is a movie which is known as a movie ahead of its time, a movie which not many people found intriguing, even today many of the audience will not prefer such type of world building story arc with breathtaking visuals, but even then, it was a masterpiece Now after 35 years we have a sequel to that movie, at first I thought it's probably one of the worst ideas to make a sequel of blade runner, cuz we all know how sequels of classic movies turn out to be, they make it so bad that they even ridicule the original, but I still had some optimism in me, because the director of the sequel is Denis Villeneuve, who has directed movies such as Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival movies which I have clearly enjoyed, and writers who did the writing of the original blade runner such as Philip K. Dick, Hampton Francher and David Webb Peoples. So I thought maybe there is a chance that this movie will not disappoint or at best will be good but nowhere near close to the OG blade runner, and oh my god how terribly wrong I was. Blade Runner 2049 is a cinematic feat at a high level, this movie is brilliant it's all those good heavy words you can come up with and still not appreciate enough the efforts director of this movie has put and his team. Blade Runner 2049 is not only an excellent sequel but it's a sequel which is even better than the original, if the IMDB had a higher rating than 10, then I would give that rating too. Blade Runner 2049 is a perfectly paced sci-fi drama you can watch right now, in terms of its visuals, the plot, the characters this movie is a seamless experience of what a great film supposed to be. In this movie we get introduced to the characters such as K who is a replicant his job is to hunt down the older models replicant, after hunting down one of the older models he finds a box which was dugged deeper in the old replicant's property. His mission is to find out the true mystery of that box, and what more the mystery folds into. This movie has focused about this character, he wants to know about his purpose, he know that he is a replicant, but why he is in this world, what is his purpose, what is the distinction between Humans and replicants. What I absolutely like about this movie is that Denis focused very well on the main character, you feel for him as the movie progresses, when he finds out something new about the case, you are witnessing that too. Character building is one of the strongest part of this movie, but in terms of its visual this movie is refreshment for the eyes, the set designs, the CGI, the cinematography of this movie is unlike anything I've ever seen, I've never seen the practical effects and the CGI effects go hand in hand with each other so perfectly and the end results are just Marvellous, I've never seen such a beautiful movie in my life since Avatar, the movie is dripping with colours. Denis Villeneuve didn't change much of the environment as the futuristic technology driven world looks similar to that of the original blade runner, but 2049 has more location and overall is much more grander in scale, the soundtrack of this movie is also a excellent, Hans Zimmer yet again has done a great job with sound composing, well I would expect nothing less from such a talented person like him. Blade Runner 2049 isn't your average movie it's not like those summer block buster action pack film which will keep you at the edge of your seat for its thrill or this isn't a sci-fi movie which is based on good Vs evil generic concept. It's something different we've never witnessed before, even with a runtime of 2 hrs and 43 mins which is almost 3 hrs this movie feels long but not too long, that was the only problem I had with the OG blade runner is that the movie felt lot longer than its runtime and even at certain scenes the movie dragged a bit, but that isn't the case with 2049 it is perfectly paced from the beginning till the end. Denis Villeneuve has a created a masterpiece and years from now this movie will be remembered as classic to the sci-fi genre.
