Halo (2022)
Garbage.
With the face reveal, to the 'silver timeline' to the fact the creators didn't even consider established background at all. It's no wonder this was utter rubbish. The Chief is a side character in his own story... no it's not his own story though is it? It's yet another IP that's been claimed, Wrecked and pulped. If you were expecting anything you'll be disappointed. Cortana? Why did you take this route? The only thing worth while about her was the og game voice actor still does the voice.
If this is what halos tv series is like I have no hope for amazons rings of power.
Appropriate Adult (2011)
Even 27 years on.. this is still raw.
I was 14 when this atrocity came to light. And it was everywhere. I live, to this day, quite local to the area.
And as a result Gloucestershire became known country, and possibly world wide for two things after this. The Cheltenham races and a prolific serial killer.
This series was quite spot on. Hell Dominic West is near uncanny in his appearance of Fred. And the same goes for rose's actress.
Of course I can't say much for what went on during the investigation, I was a 14 year old at the time and certainly not privy to it at all, obviously, but this did bring back memories.
A very powerful and striking set of performances. Masterful and respectful treatment as far it can be.
So why the 7/10?
I'm a local. All my life excepting my service in the army.
The accents were terrible. Very bad. No one, even the thickest of Gloucestershire's finest and worst speak like that. A misrepresentation that doesn't shake the image that locals are dim and yokel like. I mean Gustav Holst was a Gloucestershire alumni. And whether you know that name or not you will know Holsts music.
Perhaps I'm being a smidgen too harsh. But it is a bug bear that I have with tv and film representation of Gloucestershire and it's people,
That said. Watch it if you like a good, well paced dramatisation of true crime. But be ware... it does not pull any punches. This was a horrific event in real life. And it's represented very well in this drama.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Remember what wokeists did to ghostbusters?
Total woke drudgery. The sons retconned in to daughter's. And rufus' daughter... George carlin would have been utterly ashamed of the frankly awful portrayal of rufus' progeny.
The story is just rubbish. I won't bother giving any bullet points. It's just rubbish. OK, 2020 was a bad year for the entire world, but there was other things released that were not terrible. I actually threw the dvd in the bin. Not even charity shop worthy.
Shazam! (2019)
Well, I ain't getting paid for this...
As a comic book fan of several decades, and a parent, I have two stances on this film.
Comic fan stance. This admittedly was my first proper introduction to Shazam, and being a DC fan, I was a little irked by the cutesy nature of the film. However it's a 14 year old boy that's thrust into the lime light with super powers. I dare ANY of you to say you'd have acted any different should that have happened to you at a similar age. I certainly would have showed off at that age. And given kids that age today... yeah, so would my son. So whinging about that... yeah I'm calling you out on your bs. Given what's come before from DCEU films, this is a nice break. Simplistic, jovial, sometimes immature, but good cleanish fun. Or did ya all need more cursing or blood? If so that says more about you than anything else. Go watch saw or dead pool. Or was it just too bright? Red white and glowing yellow... oh wait that's Shazam's outfit colours off the bat... moving on.
Parental stance, this film was reminiscent of the films I watched when I was a young lad, fantastical, light and not so heavy on the... well ... heavy crap. So I would happily let my kids sit and watch this movie. On their own and as a family. Some swearing... but nothing my kids haven't heard when I'm putting up a shelf badly. Kids know curse words now. Frankly I could put up with what's in this movie. And the story isn't convoluted with twists, betrayals and over arching sub plots and interconnected nods to other story lines that are put in to satisfy YOU! Seems that's an impossibility anyways. Stop being so spoiled and just enjoy a goofy, family friendly story, with out whingeing that the spot of dust from page two book three isn't in the right place. Or it's too silly. Billy Batson is 14, and some of the family are younger still. They are hardly going to be concerned with social inequity or such Rot. They just wanna goof off. And they are super powered now with magic. Can you honestly say you would have expected any different a story than what was presented? All in all, a great movie. And one I shall enjoy again. With my family.
