A good comedy
27 August 2003
Lisbela e o Prisioneiro is a good comedy, it will certainly make you have a very good time when you see it. However, this movie is downsized by two factors: it looks like a made-for-TV feature and Débora Falabella, who plays Lisbela, is not convincing, even with the awful accent she tries to speak. The rest of the cast is excellent, a very good team of actors with an outstanding comedic timing. The screenplay (from a play by Osman Lins) has astonishing metalinguistic ideas and inserts several little black-and-white movies inside the movie, as the soundtrack is very vibrating. Quite good. 7/10

Marvelous, Critical and Cruel
21 July 2001
American Beauty is one of best 90's movies.

This movie shows us people like us. But what do we do? We "ticket" the characters."You're the loser, you're the drug user, you're the conservative colonel, you're the bitch" and etc. We are wrong.Yes, they are ordinary people, but they're not we think they are, they have conflicts ,they have feelings, they are HUMAN! And different. We think we know them: Lester , Carolyn, Colonel Fitts; but the movie surprise us with a great image of the society we live. In this image we can see, Lester, Carolyn , Colonel Fitts and... us! To see this movie is a great experience, because it makes us think about our our lives using themes like hypocrisy, marriage, sex and drugs. All of it is put in the movie with a marvelous cinematography, a tense direction by Sam Mendes and a disturbing screenplay by Alan Ball.

**** of four!
