Ratatouille (2007)
Very disappointing
I went to this movie last night with high expectations. I certainly didn't expect anything of the brilliance of Toy Story or Finding Nemo, but I expected at least the quality of the Incredibles or Cars. Instead I got a pretty good movie that happens to rank at the bottom of all the Pixar movies made so far. Only mildly entertaining, Ratatouille is a pretty significant dropoff for Pixar in their new era after selling their studios to Disney. I would recommend this film for kids 9-12 but don't go in with high expectations. You will likely be disappointed if you do. My 14 year old daughter enjoyed it, but we both agreed that it didn't rate even as well as Surf's up and not even close to Happy Feet. More on the level of Over the Hedge or Monster House really.
Flirting with Disaster (1996)
Hilarious
One of the great comedies of our time. Released 10 years ago this riot of a movie should go down in history as one of the funniest movies ever. Ben Stiller plays his best part in this one. Tea Leoni is great.
Lilly Tomlin and Alan Alda are hilarious. And Patricia Arquette is beautiful as always. This movie builds and builds until the craziness reaches its peak in the final 15 minutes. I'd put it in the top 10 funniest movies ever with no qualms whatsoever. I'm not sure why this movie was so overlooked. I think that it had a very low budget and didn't get any publicity. It is a hidden gem for sure. If you don't see it you're missing out.
Because of Winn-Dixie (2005)
very heartfelt with surprising substance
This movie was a pleasant surprise in it's overall acting and charm, with a wonderfully directed cast. Winn-Dixie was a fun movie and the dog was really not the star of this one. While the dog had charm, it was little India Opal who stole the show. With Dave Matthews and Cicely Tyson playing wonderful roles, the characters in this film steal your heart. Opal charms the old folks of this town who seem to have lost their joy. Once the candy factory was shut down the citizens hearts left with it. It is Opal who brings the citizens back together and opens up a closed community by throwing a party for the people in the town.
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
The truth shall be exposed!!!
Michael Moore is very passionate about fighting for what is right for America. He is very skillful at his art and this may be his masterpiece! He has dug deep to get to the bottom of our current corrupt administration (which isn't easy considering that they do most everything in secret). This movie should help get us a new administration and give America a better, stronger future. If Bush is in business with the Bin Laden family how can we expect to catch this killer? Well, we know that Bush has decided to turn our attention to Iraq in hopes that we will all forget about Bin Laden, but how can we forget such tragedy? This movie should be viewed by everyone registered to vote, and then go out in Nov. and vote your conscience.
Something's Gotta Give (2003)
Something very disappointing...
I went in with high expectations, only to watch a movie about a sleezy old man and a naive older woman that is as juvenile as anything I've seen in a long time. Diane Keaton is terrific, however with Nicholson and Amanda Peete not in top form, along with a very cheesy script, do yourself a favor and rent something (that doesn't) gotta give. This movie goes too long at well over 2 hrs. It shows us that it is better to follow lust rather than love. Keanu Reeves character had real love for her, while Nicholson just wanted a cheap thrill. I enjoy a lot of chick flicks, but this one had nothing entertaining or enjoyable (outside of Keaton's great performance) to absorb. 4/10.
The Pianist (2002)
If you like hatred, Torture, and mayhem then this movie is for you...
Very overrated, unoriginal movie with good individual performances. I gave the movie a 7, but was much closer to a 6 than an 8. Not a bad film, but haven't we already seen enough of this? (I.E. -- Schindlers List)
Ice Age (2002)
Wonderful film
A terrifically entertaining film for kids and adults alike. Very funny and just plain fun! Only complaint is the 73 min running time. Could have been a little longer, but still well worth the price of admission.
