Vulgar, sophomoric, waste of talent
15 March 2003
I stayed with the movie to the end hoping to find some redeeming value. Humor was sick, there were no good laughs, the plot thin, and it appeared to be nothing more than an exercise in foul language. There were no good laughs. Susan Sarandon is really stooping to take roles like this, wasting her talent. I am now convinced that Goldie Hawn is washed-up. I wasted the $15 that this DVD cost. It would have been a waste at $2.

Memorable and enjoyable

The humor is just as fresh today as it was when I first saw it several years ago. Goodings shows a depth of talent that this viewer really appreciates. His expressions are nearly as plastic as Jim Carrey's and spontaneous enough to steal the show without any lines.

This movie has it all
3 June 2002
This movie has it all. All but the gratuitous sex, violence, and foul language that seen to be the predominant theme of contemporary adult films. I have known people like the three convicts central to this story.. this makes the story somewhat plausible. The music is wonderful, the story is funny, casting was superb and the photography in (almost) sepia draws the viewer into the era. I loved the movie, watched it twice, and will watch it again.

Don't miss the soundtrack recording
29 March 2001
This is an excellent film. I have seen it several times since it's release and never tire of it. Other than the adult theme it would have been suitable for family viewing. Well casted, and a good mix of both romance and comedy. The casual observer may not catch the best part of the movie, it's soundtrack. Kevin Kline does an outstanding vocal rendition of La Mer. Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Van Morrison, and others.. How could one ignore this gem?

Demonstrates the impact each of has on the lives of all we know.

The fact that there are no "box office icons" in this film leads me to believe that this could be a diamond in the rough [Fargo] or a complete flop. Viewed with no expectations, the film is warmly satisfying. The story is very well presented and the characters are very believable. Worth seeing, and worth seeing again.
