Out of Rosenheim (1987)
Cleanning the dust
OUT OF ROSENHEIM (1987) "BAGDAD CAFÉ"
A lonely coffee bar in the middle of nowhere ran by an eccentric and tired owner, Brenda, who is constantly juggling with her numerous responsabilities, which some of them are:
A son whose only passion is to play his piano (passion that is
absolutely repudiated and censored by his family); a teenager daughter,
restless and liberal; a breast fed grandson completely ignored by his father and predestined to listen in a constant way his melodies; a lazy and irresponsible husband who has been expelled from the place by herself, and who loves her just the way she is; and a small group of customers absolutely bizarre, immersed in a tedious and routinist world.
In this desserted and dusty landscape a miracle happens. An angel comes tired and sweating not from the heaven but from a most unexpected place: Germany. She is the Brenda´s angel, not quite handsome but endowed with a hermetic will, which shall not be broken by vulgarities nor by nervous attacks. An angel that will clean the dust not only from the town, but from the souls of its inhabitants.
7/10. Great!
La danse de mort (1982)
Like a ghost
No doubt, other masterpiece of Claude Chabrol. This director can surprise you a million times in a million forms. This film is dark and sad. Don't let you breath between scenes. The characters lives in a hard atmosphere, like a desert museum. The museum of a lonely life -or lonely death- like ghosts.
7/10
Cría cuervos (1976)
Between the mounsters of international cinema history
Cría Cuervos offers you one hundred five minutes of pleasure. I can´t find words to describe the work of Ana Torrent, she is perfect (her face remember a japanese manga´s character, her work is gratefull!).
Geraldine Chaplin's character smells sad, loneliness, the most deep pain. When she play the piano with her thins fingers she makes you cry. The director Carlos Saura must to be between the mounsters and genious of the international cinema history.
8/10 HJN.-
The Cement Garden (1993)
A piece of art
Simply a piece of art. More than this: a magnific, dark and lonely piece of art in the middle of a desert. The cement is hard and hide things that must to be hide. In this film the past time is erased, digged in the deep under 10 feets of cement. One of the characters says (in the final of the movie) - You are sick!-, but he don't know that the sick was himself.
10/10 - So far the best cinema
Thanks for your art, Andrew Birkin
