Boo (2005)
A Great Date Movie
Hey Guys, Have you had the pleasure of having your woman grab your arm in the middle of a horror film, hiding her eyes in your chest, etc? "Boo" is the PERFECT movie to watch on DVD as a prelude to a romantic evening.
The abandoned hospital setting is perfect, the acting more than serviceable for this type of film (Dee Wallace Stone is a particular howl), and the directing is excellent. The scares are many, and trust me, your lady won't want you to leave her alone for days.
It's a riot of a shockerfest. Make sure you order in a pizza.
You can't go wrong with "Boo."
The Unknown (2005)
A Return to the Adventurous Monster Films of Yore
First things first. Karl Kozak has a big future in the film industry. To Hell With Love was an outstanding first effort, Out of the Black was absolutely sensational (and highly underrated - I honestly thought as a character piece it was better than that year's Oscar-winner), and his latest, The Unknown, is a jaw-droppingly funny, horrifying and FUN film about the mysterious Bigfoot legend. I promised myself I wouldn't spoil the fun for anyone, but here's the deal: I would love to see a sequel to this.
Remember the days when a horror film was not synonymous with knife wielding maniacs, and was just a plain good time? Welcome to The Unknown, which will have you crawling under the seat, covering your eyes. It's suspense that sells this picture, though it also has its moments of sheer terror.
It's a perfect date movie. You'll be surprised. And scared. Very, very scared ...
To Hell with Love (1998)
A hysterically well-acted and scripted film, with future star-turns by a fine cast.
Every now and again, an unsung film is found that's like a fine diamond. A true find, "To Hell With Love" is actually one of the funnier films of the year. Who can't identify with the plight of this main character? "To Hell With Love" signals the emergence of a true talent in writer/director Karl Kozak, who has fashioned this slice-of-life tale with great humor and poignancy.
