Barely watchable re-hash of the original story
25 November 2012
Poor dialogue, poor acting by all involved and poorly re-hashed storyline make this the usual clichéd revenue-centric sequel that we've come to expect from Hollywood.

It's saving grace was Luc Besson's brief injection of edge-of-the-seat tension and chases. Another positive was the impressive cinematography, filmed on location, which gave a real insider's view of Istanbul.

A forgettable sequel with a ridiculous storyline that does not do justice to the original movie.

Nevertheless, many may enjoy the movie purely for it's action scenes... as long as no attention is paid to the barely believable plot.

The Dictator (2012)
1/10
Sacha Cohen sinks to a new all time low of comedy.
13 August 2012
I would normally hesitate to award a 1/10 to any movie, as there is usually some redeeming factor to each production that would warrant it be award SOME merit. Unfortunately, that cannot be said about this movie.

Being a big fan of Sacha's early work, in the guise of Ali G (having a slot on the show The Day Today), I was bitterly disappoint at the extremely adolescent and unintelligent 'humor' he has adopted for this movie.

I can honestly say that there wasn't ONE amusing moment through the film, from start to end.

Your 83 mins would be a well worth spent on something else a lot more productive.... like sleeping. Sorry for the negativity, its just that this movie was utter s***.

Absolutely Fantastic Example of Good Animation!!
28 November 2001
I woke up this morning to the alarm on my bedroom TV. I could hear familiar voices... Ralph Fiennes?... Richard E Grant?... William Hurt?... When I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I realised that the program on BBC2 was an animated version on 'Jesus of Nazareth'.

Not being a particularly religious disposition, this was not the reason that prevented me from getting up out of my nice warm bed. Alas, it was the unbelievable animation that bedazzled me. I come from a design/multimedia background, and so I found this example of animation very interesting, and the more I watched it, the more I was amazed.

The flow of the animations; the realism of the characters' features; the expressions on their faces; the interlaced, drawn animation 'dream-sequences'; all these aspects aggregated to form a top class exhibition of animationary excellence.

And to top it all off, the dialogue and storyline were superbly written in a way that would appeal to young AND old. I a twenty-nine year old man, but I have to admit that watching this brought a tear to my eye, and a lump in my throat.

Whether this was an empathetic reaction to the plight of Jesus, or an inherent appreciation of the animation quality... one can only guess.

10 out of 10 (and I only caught the last half hour!!) I shall be ordering a copy of this on DVD as a Christmas present. Thats the easy part... the hard part is deciding which one of my four favourite neices to give it to!
