Three Amigos! (1986)
One of my favorites...
Hey, Three Amigos! is meant to be stupid. But, with Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short in the cast, you can bet there'll be some memorable scenes. The trio are silent film stars, who are fired and, they are recruited to get rid of "El Guapo", who is a vigilante in a small town. They think it is all an act, but the town believes that they are really heroes (I mean, who wouldn't? They do heroic stuff on the screen!!) Throughout the film, you get musical acts, comedy, drama, etc, and the final product keeps you laughing. Maybe it isn't the BEST movie, but definitely a must-see. Viva Los Tres Amigos!!
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
One of Kubrick's better films
I watched this movie thinking that I was going to hate it. Boy, was I wrong. 2001 was one of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen, especially for the time period it was made in, and better than the tiresome special effects they use today. I've always enjoyed Stanley Kubrick's work, but 2001 is definitely one of his better triumphs. I don't even mind that it is sort of a slow movie; the great background music and semi-tense mood of it all makes 2001 work. One of my favorite movies, Dark Star, has a similar plotline, and I never realized that it spoofed 2001, since I hadn't seen it before the first time I saw Dark Star, which made watching 2001 even more interesting. Anyway, I think that 2001 is an ingenius film--some stuff is sort of confusing, but that does not detract from the film. It is a feast for the eyes and the ears; just hearing HAL is sort of creepy.
About Schmidt (2002)
About Schmidt, are you ready for a new Jack?
For years, Jack Nicholson has been one of my favorite actors. From One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to Heartburn to As Good As It Gets, he has never ceased to amaze me, and he has never disappointed me. Now, as he has "slowed down", along comes About Schmidt; a film where Nicholson takes a low-key role and plays a man who is trying to fix the life he feels he has wasted, period. No strings attached. Nicholson is playing a relatively normal guy, without having to be a psychotic or a womanizing older man. And he does it beautifully. I would have to say that About Schmidt is a one-man show, containing great backup characters for Jack. There is no doubt in my mind that Nicholson will be recognized for the subtle role he took as Warren Schmidt, retired and on the road seeking something more, and learning about life along the way. I don't have much more to say about this movie, although I was very impressed. I guess you could compare Schmidt to some aspects of the quirkier As Good As It Gets, but I'd have to say that this is a kinder, gentler Nicholson. Schimdt is no Chinatown, but it's a beautifully crafted film with one of the finest actors of all time. ****/**** stars

O (2001)
Surprising
I'll say this right now, I can't stand Josh Hartnett, therefore, every movie I have seen of his, I have completely disliked it because of him. There, I got it out. But, just recently in English class, we watched the movie, "O", and although I still dislike the man, I'll have to say I enjoyed the movie. Since we always have to read Shakespeare in school, I wasn't looking forward to reading "Othello", I don't understand him or his language, and that makes me very uninterested (I know, I should give him a chance). So, after we read the book, I was clueless and then we watched the Laurence Fishburne Othello (1995). IT was almost word for word (once again, not understanding it). Then came "O". I was surprised that it was so close to the story (of what I got out of it), yet it sort of reached out to teenagers like me who don't understand what those darn shakesperean guys were talking about in their day. It was quite, well, interesting. Mekhi Pheifer did a very good job, as well as poor, poor Julia Stiles (geez, Josh, why'd ya have to butt into those peoples business?!) Overall, I now understand what the whole deceit jealousy thing is about!! Dost thou ears deceive me?? I think I'll give this movie *** outta ***** stars for its good retelling, and Josh....keep your shirt on.
Hey Arnold! (1996)
Hey!
This show, is, I admit, one of the better shows on Nickelodeon in the present. Harold is my favorite, but anyway, it just has very good qualities that the other cartoons don't have. Like the other users here, I think it would be great if they would show reruns, I would actually watch tv more!! But, Hey, Arnold is just about the daily things kids do in a big city. I didn't really like it at first, but I have grown to like it, it's just very low key, and doesn't overdo any crazy antics, overused plot lines or cheesy jokes...and although this is exactly what Sponge Bob Squarepants is, I will always love it!!! But anyway, watch Hey, Arnold, good clean fun and great to watch when you're feeling lazy and wanna watch some mindless tv.
Willow (1988)
this movie is freaky...
Talk about weird!!! This movie, though I have not attempted to watch it for many years, is in one word: strange. I think the first time I saw it, I was about 7 years old and some of the scenes are very disturbing. SPOILER IF YOU DONT WANNA KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE MOVIE: I don't think it was very necessary to put in the part where that brain thing turns into a two headed dragon thing, because that sort of scarred me for life, as well as the part where the people turn into pigs. Even though I am older now, I still don't understand this movie and nothing else as scared me as much as this movie (but, Snow White comes close, why do kids' movies have to scare the crap outta a 15 year old?). So, parents, make sure your little kiddies don't watch this when they show it during Thanksgiving (they seem to every year) because it's not the kind of fantasy movie you wanna show 'em. If you really wanna see a fantasy/action movie with them, show them Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, at least you know they won't be scared to watch Babe because of those gnarly piggies!!
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
The best....
Dumb and Dumber is one of the funniest movies of the '90's, at least, that I have ever seen!!! Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels work together perfectly to make this movie earn a 10!! Jim Carrey is the best actor in the world and one of these days, he has to be nominated for one of his works, he has done so much and has shown that he can do more than silly, toilet-humor comedies. Anyway, Dumb and Dumber is a must see for everyone (except for maybe little kiddies, their parents might want to think twice, but hey, I say, start the tykes early and show them what good humor is!) It's also educational for me, we watched it in high school two years in a row, now isn't that awesome? Or maybe my school is just weird cause we watch Bill and Ted, too. I think Dumb and Dumber is one of Jim Carrey's best works!
10 (1979)
Entertaining
Although "10" was not as good as i thought it was going to be, i still think that it is a good movie to watch when you're too lazy to get out of the house or something. Not much else to say except for rent it, because on tv they cut out the funniest scenes, like every other movie.
The Godfather (1972)
As good as it gets...
The Godfather has been a tradition in my family forever. Even when I was young I wanted to see what this "wonderful" movie was like. Finally, when I was eight, my whole family got together on New Year's Eve to watch the trilogy and The Godfather became my all time favorite movie. There is nothing better. I've seen the movie a million times, and never get tired of it. I also enjoy watching the little documentary before the movie, but that totally spoils some of it if you haven't seen it before. My family says I like Part 1 more than Part 2 because Marlon Brando was in it (yes, partly, but he's my favorite actor), but the story was so much better. Many movies that are based on the book tend to add ridiculous scenes, but the Godfather kept true to the story. All of the actors were wonderful, and now, the Corleone family is like a part of my family.
The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)
How can an idiot be an police officer?!
Well, it's the second shot at the Pink Panther series and this one is by far the best one. Peter Sellers really shines bright as the bumbling Inspector Clousseau. The lines are remarkably funny and many scenes leave me rolling on the floor. I could watch this movie over and over without getting tired of it, seriously! By the way, Kato is pretty fun-nay, too! Classic film. Classic actors. Return of the Pink Panther is definitely in my Top 10!
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
One of the craziest movies I've seen
Hey, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World is pure genius. Not only is the plot wild and crazy, but the actors are, too!! Even Jimmy Durante's small role is sooooo funny! The only flaw this movie has is that it is close to three hours and even though it's very enjoyable, c'mon the Big "W" should've been found a little bit faster. Anyway, with the talents of Sid Caeser, Spencer Tracy, Buddy Hackett and other classics, how can a film go wrong? Go and see it!!
Rocky and His Friends (1959)
I love this show!!!
Hey, Rocky and Bullwinkle is the best cartoon around. Now, I am a big fan of cartoons and the first time I saw Rocky and Bullwinkle, I had to watch more and more. It is such a corny show, yet, it is so funny to watch. Bullwinkle, lights it up, with his dimwittedness and dumb punch lines. I love the other segments of the show like Aesop and Son, Fractured Fairy Tales and the "infamoose" Dudley DoRight. This is classic, and frankly, I don't think there will be another show quite like it. "Now, here's something you'll really like!" (P.S. the only disappointment of R&B history, if you haven't seen it, I warn you, you'll waste your time and money).
Meet the Parents (2000)
What a great movie....
Meet the Parents was a surprisingly hilarious movie. I saw it at the movies twice and both times, I laughed equally hard at the sight gags and script. I'm sure any one would agree. Director Jay Roach really made this movie extraordinary. It rises above todays standards of what a good movie is. Oh, also, everything had something to do with the plot of the story. If there was a joke about "Puff the Magic Dragon", then there was a good reason for it to be mixed into the dialouge. Please see Meet the Parents more than once. De Niro is classic, Stiller plays his character perfectly and all the others are great too. So, go ahead, take a group, that's really fun. Meet the Parents is one of the funniest movies of the year.
Dark Star (1974)
A funny, corny plot sure to make you laugh!!
When I first saw the Dark Star when I was about 12 (I'm two years older now), I thought it was going to be pretty stupid. But right from the beginning of the theme song (Benson Arizona) I knew I would like it. Beach Ball Alien. A smart talking bomb, everything. I don't think I've ever watched it without busting up!!! It's so awesome, even though it's low budget and cheap. It's directed by John Carpenter (Halloween), and it's a crack up. Please see it, you won't regret it.
