Sleepy Hollow (1999)
8/10
Surprisingly funny?
11 June 2000
I was delighted to see the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp team again at work, but I was surprised to find myself laughing myself silly in many parts of the film. I admit that I have only viewed it once, so maybe upon further review I will find my opinion will change, but this story was too much!

The costumes were phenomenal, the casting perfect, the script - pretty good and the music, well has Danny Elfman really ever gone wrong? I feel bad saying that this film made me laugh more than it scared me, although it did have it's moments of fright. I think perhaps it was Depp's wooden performance that made me laugh.

Overall, this film was pretty good. I hope Burton really puts more thought into his films to come and that he will again bring brilliance to the cinema.

Kolya (1996)
A very sweet story
3 June 2000
Kolya was an amazing little film. I was taken completely by surprize because normally I can't stand those sweet tender-hearted films. The acting is phenomenal as well as the cinematography. I wouldn't go as far as saying that this was one of my favorite films, but it was good. A pretty average nice film. Unfortunately it was pretty predictable and that was a shame.

Ridicule (1996)
8/10
Delightful!

I must say that I wish I could speak better French, simply because this film has such a great sense of humor, it would only intensify the hilarity of the picture. The story was not perhaps the most original, then again, what is? This film had heart and a flow about it that was very interesting and pleasing to the eye and soul. Sometimes I hoped that I could see the lives of the other people in the plot, like that little deaf/mute boy, Paul or whatever happened to the abbot? Overall, I must say that the film is beautifully shot, funny in a very literary, upper minded way and a sheer delight. Not for those with a taste for low-brow humor however.

The surprize of the year
28 May 2000
I cannot believe that I almost passed this one up. I thought anything called "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai" would be one of the worst films that I have ever seen, but oh how wrong I was! After a pretty slow beginning, I began to see the sad beauty in the life of Ghost Dog. After the first 15 minutes you find yourself knowing what will happen in the end (which I will not be so callous as to reveal) but yet that doesn't seem to matter for once, because you want to be along for the ride. The mobsters provide an unusual comic relief, as does the French-speaking ice cream man. I found this film to be delightful and one that I will want to see again.

I give it 8.5 out of 10.

Will & Grace (1998–2020)
Hey, it's something to watch
28 May 2000
Will and Grace, while having no original plot, is certainly one of the more enjoyable shows on television. Will and Grace are both very attractive and yet annoying characters who will not really capture the interest of anyone. It is Jack and Karen, the lovable side kicks of Will and Grace that make the show the least bit entertaining. I find myself looking at the clock on the wall waiting for another appearence by these two off-the-wall and over the top characters. Overall, it really isn't such a bad show, and when nothing else is on, it may be worth checking out.
