Batman Returns (1992)
Decent sequel but didn't seem like it tried to be better.
Now I am huge fan of the Batman series (yes, I even liked Batman and Robin) and I didn't mind this movie. But when it comes to the least enjoyable installment this has to be it. The reason I say that because it was way, way too dark which Tim Burton might've been a little too excited about in the movie. Another reason is that it didn't seem like it tried to be better then the original, which in my opinion is a comic book classic. It needed a little more action and a better story. The performances in the movie were superb no doubt. Danny Devito was unbelieveable as the Penguin. But the one character that I hated to see in every scene that he was in was Christopher Walken's character. I don't think he needed to be in the plot because he seemed useless to me. Tim Burton as usual did wonderful directing when it came to the acting and the action scenes but again it was little too dark for me for a Batman film. It just seemed a gothic story written by Edgar Allen Poe or something. Not a comic book adaption. But I did like it and I haven't hated a Burton film yet. Of course I haven't seen Planet of the Apes yet. I just think it could've been a lot better.
Unbreakable (2000)
I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't believe how wonderful of a movie this was. This was awesome!! It keeps you interested in the plot from the beginning to the surprising ending, which I thought was kinda flat but besides that this was a favorite of mine and probably the best I've seen for awhile!! Bruce Willis continues to impress me and that's why he's a favorite actor of mine!!! Even though he plays very quiet he does such a terrific job!! And I got something to say to those heartless movie critics out there!! BRUCE WILLIS CAN ACT SO SHUT UP ABOUT HIM BEING SUCH A BAD ACTOR BECAUSE HE"S NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you wanna see him do his best acting here's a list of his movies that he proves to be an actor. This movie of course, The Sixth Sense, The Story of Us, The Kid, Breakfast of Champions (even though the movie sucked!!), Death Becomes Her, In Country, The Whole Nine Yards, and the Die Hard movies. Now back to the movie. This movie seemed like something that I always wanted to see but I never thought about it. I am a big fan of superhero movies but this was a very realistic one. Just like M. Night Shayamalan made people feel in The Sixth Sense about ghosts possibly being real he made the people think that there could be real life superheroes in the world!! I mean the scene where Bruce Willis is fighting that kidnapper/murderer was so realistic that it took my breath away. It was so nicely done and really made you feel good about Bruce Willis's character because he had a gift in him. Samuel L. Jackson did pretty damn good too being a character that he rarely becomes and that's a quiet man! He's always running his mouth and giving smartass remarks like he did in Shaft, Pulp Fiction, and Die Hard With a Vengence but in Unbreakable he's not even close to that. This was an awesome movie and one of my favorites from Bruce Willis!! I recommand this movie to anyone who gets seduced to wonderful storytelling!!!
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Almost as good as the original
All I have to say is I'm proud to be a big fan of the Jurassic Park movies. I was so afriad that I wouldn't like this movie because the second sequel never is good in a lot of series but I loved this one!! It really blew me away with all the non-stop action. it seemed like chase after chase after chase and it really kept you on the edge. Even though a lot of people say that it was more the same and they didn't develop the characters good enough. WHO CARES about the characters!!! They developed them good enough here without using too much detail. What you expect in a Jurassic Park movie is scary and suspenseful moments and thats exactly what you get in this one. All the actors on the island were great. I even think WIlliam H. Macy almost stole the show with his humor. And Sam Neil, as always, did great as Dr. Grant. I loved Jurassic Park!! Lost World wasn't bad at all! But Jurassic Park 3 was awesome!! But I don't think no sequel can be as better as the original. I also like to add that I was very impressed with Joe Johnston's direction to the movie. It made me kept thinking that Spielberg was still directing this. That's how good he did. I really recommend to this sequel to the Jurassic Park fans who expect a lot of action and humor. If you don't then I don't think you will like this one!!!! Now I read that they want to make a Jurassic 4. Now even though I don't think thats a good idea I'm still gonna see it because it might surprise me like Jurassic Park 3 did to me.
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
An overrated sequel
This movie was extremely overrated from the praise it got. I was really looking forward to this when I paid three bucks to rent it and now I wished I never rented it. Most of the movie was boring, except the last 40 minutes, and like the original it was confusing. Only the original was a little enjoyable with some of the action it had. This sequel was hyped to be an awesome action movie with non-stop action and I thought it would have a lot of action because John Woo was directing it. But as usual the previews lie. Even though the last 40 minutes were non stop action the rest of it was confusing and boring. I know I shouldn't count the action for this movie being bad but maybe a little more action would've made it better since it was so boring. This is why I hate Tom Cruise because he's made so many overrated movies in his career (Jerry Maguire, Risky Business, Eyes Wide Shut, etc.) And I don't even think hes that great of an actor because it seems like he plays the same character in every movie. If you wanna watch this movie for the "non-stop" action then you shouldn't waste your money on it. But if you wanna watch it for the confusing story telling then this is your movie.
Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000)
Worst sequel ever made!!!
What is up with Eddie Murphy? He's been making a lot of bad choices. Examples include Life, Holy Man, Bowfinger (I'm sorry but that movie wasn't that funny_. Maybe Eddie needs to figure out what a bad script is because this movie was just that. The original was plain hilarious non stop. This sequel is the total opposite with unfunny jokes. I'll admit that the sick humor was funny but there wasn't that many like the previews claimed there would be. It was just one of those movies that care about getting more money then caring for how good the movie is. I'm very disappointed with Eddie and the director Peter Segal. Segal was on a great roll with movies (Naked Gun 3, Tommy Boy, and My Fellow Americans) and then he picks the first flop. And why they put Janet (Made of Plastic) Jackson as the love interest is beyond me. She can't act worth s***!! If you think this movie will be funny by what the previews show, don't go by the previews. This is not a funny movie!
Drive Me Crazy (1999)
Can be enjoyable
This movie did have some moments but other then that it wasn't that good. It just isn't that enjoyable.. Melissa Joan Hart does have talent but she could've picked a better movie. Adrian Grenier did a great job playing the protest loving teen who gets a make over from Melissa. But the movie lacks its fun into just plain stupidity. And that band Kept playing On Loving You from REO Speedwagon? Whoever that band was don't deserve a record contract. I don't want to spoil the ending but its another one of those senseless endings.
Eraser (1996)
Praise for Arnold!!!
I'm so sick of seeing magazines and critics putting this movie down. They said it had no plot and was senseless. I guess critics forgot what a Arnold movie is supposed to be like. And most of those movies were big hits. All I have to say is that there was nothing wrong with his movie. It had great action scenes, a lot of laughs, and good villains. This was another underrated one from Arnold, just like, Jingle All the Way. I don't know if the critics are idiots but the movie wasn't supposed to be an oscar contender. It was made for the audiences to have fun. And I think a lot of moviefans forgot to have fun watching movies anymore. So what if it had bad acting and a bad script. All action movies do and thats why a lot of them become hits. Something this movie should've been. To me, Arnold is still the man. Al least he is trying different things (Jingle All the Way, Junior, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, End of Days etc) Look at Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal. All they did was making action movie after action movie and now we don't see them in any movies anymore. Arnold may be a terrible actor but at least he does different things in his career. Stallone should think about this too.
Lost & Found (1999)
Surprising decent
When I first saw this movie I was thinking I was wasting my time with it because I don't like David Spade and He's not funny at all. Even though I still hate David Spade this movie I really enjoyed. I mean it was predictable but very good story. Of course it ain't original(There's Something About Mary) but its just a feel good comedy. Spade actually does some good acting and he also does one hell of a singing act towards the end that was just flawless in any movie. He actually did sound like Neil Diamond. That Sophie girl is a very talented actress and does a very good job in this movie too. But having that fat guy in the movie was nothing more then a Chris Farley wannabe. They didn't need him. But overall very good movie and very enjoyable. Spade actually did something right.
Wild Wild West (1999)
What is wrong with this movie?
I've seen this movie so many times to think that I would get tired of it and so far I haven't. The more I watch it the more I keep thinking why it had a bad wrap. I can't think of anything but Will Smith playing Jim West. Which was a white character in the original TV show(Not being racist or anything but they should at least be true to the TV show. Something that been a problem lately with TV show movies. But other then its extremeily untrue to the show I liked it because it was enjoyable to watch. I mean I do like the type of movies that are just made to have fun(Lake PLacid, Deep Blue Sea, Big Daddy, The Waterboy, etc) And this movie was one of them. I will admit that this movie did have some problems. The first thing was the racial marks that were made a bunch of times. That was getting old, even though the scene with Smith and that Loveless guy making fun of themselves was pretty funny. The other problem was some of the one liners in the movie. Like: "That's it, no more mister knife guy" and "I learned that from a China man." Those lines should've been off the script but they took the chance to keep them. Another thing that I didn't like about the movie was having Salma Haleck being in the film where she had no purpose in the film but to show her cute little butt in the movie. But if u ignore these flaws, you got a very enjoyable movie. Will Smith and Kevin Kline work very well as with Kenneth Branngh as the evil Dr. Arliss Loveless, which I like to add is in my list of best villains. Number one is Jeremy Irons from Die Hard With a Vengence. Kevin Kline also does a good job playing President Grant, originally offered to Robert Conrad but put it down since he too didn't like what they were doing to the movie.
Some of the fight scenes weren't bad either and that 80 foot spider scene was awesome. Barry Sonnenfeld, the director of Men in Black and Addams Family, does a good job making this movie into some kind of super hero movie. He also did a good job making the comedy scenes real funny. I mean that touch my breast scene was just too much. I've read some magazines where they said this movie was the worst of 1999. I tell u what I've seen alot worst then this. Example: Blair Witch, Life(totally unfunny) The Mod Squad, Galaxy Quest etc.
I give this movie a 9 out of 10
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Best Tim Burton Film Yet!
Now I'm a big Tim Burton fan and before I rented this I just knew it would be a good movie because in my opinion Tim Burton hasn't made a bad movie yet. Yes, I even liked Mars Attacks! And Tim's streak is still alive in this awesome movie with great perfromances by Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci (who for once is not playing a slut) Now I will admit that Tim Burton has a weird mind but a good one and he shows it all in this movie. Everything was great about this film. The acting, the story, the direction by Burton, the music, and the special effects. There's also a little bit of darkish comedy. Very like Tim Burton. And the violence in it is pretty bloody so watch for that too. There's not much to say except if you like Tim Burton or you're a big fan of the book, or you like bloody movies that get right to the point then this is your movie! TIM BURTON RULES!!!!!!!!!
Galaxy Quest (1999)
Kinda disappointing
I just saw this film and let me tell you that I was a little disappointed with it. I mean I get movie magazines all the time and I read so many great reviews about this movie. Saying it was non-stop funny and other stuff. But I didn't see any of that. What I saw was just a dumb spoof of Star Trek. All the jokes were very flat and just wasn't the laugh out loud kind of jokes it was supposed to have. The movie did start to get good at the last 30 minutes but thats not enough time for me. Let's just say that it was another overated Tim Allen movie, just like The Santa Clause. I do like Tim Allen but he's got to find better movies to be in but this. Even though he's a terrible actor he does have the comedy talent and he needs to use that in other better films like Jungle 2 Jungle and For Richer or Poorer. Come on Tim!
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Now this is a classic flick
Just when the horror genre was flopping, a movie starring Bruce Willis called The Sixth Sense came to save the day. With great acting, directing, and writing, this movie became a classic. It was creepy, not scary, and had such a great story that touched you in the heart. Now tell me a horror movie thats done that to anybody. Bruce Willis, an underrated actor in my opinion, did a hell of a job playing the role of Dr. Malcolm Crowe who helps a boy, played also greatly by Haley Joel Osment, who sees dead people. Also great writing and directing by M. Night Shayamalan, who is right now in the most famous director list right now. He probably created the most shocking ending of all time in any movie. Pretty much like Hitchcock. Great film!
Big Daddy (1999)
Best Sandler Film Yet!
Adam Sandler is very well known for his comedy and that talent has put him the top spot in box office gross. The box office buzz started when he made a football comedy called The Waterboy which surprised a lot of critics for its success in the box office making it over 100 million dollars. Sure The Wedding Singer became a box office hit too but it did nothing like The Waterboy and Sandler did it again with Big Daddy. A movie in my opinion is the best film Adam Sandler has ever made. It's well acted and well directed and has a lot of touching moments.(unlike other Sandler films) Actually the best part of the whole film is when Sandler crys. I'm not saying that because its touching but its surprising because whoever thought of Adam crying in a movie. Big Surprise!!! But he isn't the only star of the film. The littler kid, which is played by twins, make this movie work too. Also stars like Jon Stewret, Rob Schinder and Joey Lauen Adams. Great film for the whole family!!! Even if you don't like Adam Sandler.
The Mummy (1999)
Great Movie for people who love adventure movies!
Whether the critics liked it or not The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser was the most fun I've ever had in a movie. I mean sure The Mummy wasn't scary but to be honest with you there hasn't been any scary movies that have been made lately so get used it. The special effects were great and funny and sometimes it would look like a cartoons but I think that is what I liked about it. You have to have a great sense of humor to love this film. The director of Deep Rising, another movie that was more funny than scary, Stephen Sommers was very Spielberg-like in this film and you can easily tell that Sommers had a lot of fun writing and directing this film. Great film!!!
