Joan of Arc (1999)
I did not enjoy this film.
I did not enjoy this movie. It made Joan to look like a psycho. She was talking to herself in order to justify her wanting revenge on her enemies. I must say I thought it was a different idea as I have never seen a movie take this stance with the story of Joan (making her crazy instead of a saint). This did help make it a bit more interesting but still my need for belief in the mystical and magical negated this movie. After a while I just wanted it to be over.
I was not impressed by Milla's performance as Joan in the least. She acted fanatic at most times and reminded me a lot as her character from Fifth Element especially near the end. This made it hard for me to really get into the story.
I'd hate to admit this but I would have to say that I enjoyed the little made for TV movie starring Doogie Howser as the king of France more than this movie. And that is sad...
If you feel you must see it, I wouldn't bother renting this movie until it has come off the new release wall at the video store.
'A' gai wak (1983)
Real Stink Burger
I know that all the other comments on this site say it is Jackie's best work. Well I am not afraid to tell you how it really is. I just watched this movie and I was in physical pain it was so bad. There was nearly no plot, extreme dramatic acting performances, not the best martial arts I've seen and the characters kept switching roles (Jackie himself went from a sailor to a police man to a thief back to a sailor). I was bored out of my mind watching this movie and caught myself dozing off. And I LOVE Jackie Chan flicks!
To its credit: there were a few cute one liners but that wasn't enough to save itself. Also it is dubbed which is annoying for some movie watchers. I'd have to say the most enjoyable part was when Jackie was saluting like a policeman should (exaggerating the salute).
Still I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Please spare yourself the torment of this movie and rent another Jackie Chan movie instead. There are so many other movies of his that are 50 times better than this one.
Dead Man on Campus (1998)
Pleasantly Suprised
I rented this movie only because when it came out on video I was working at a video store and could rent it for free. I wasn't expecting much but stupid guy-type humor and probably would have never picked it up if I couldn't get it for free.
Boy was I surprised when I watched it. I couldn't stop laughing. This was a truely funny movie. I have since bought this movie and watched it with several friends. Everyone who has watched it with me has laughed uncontrollably.
You don't have to be a kid (my dad even loved it) or a college student to appreciate this movie.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (1996)
And if your hands were metal that would mean something...
I can't even count how many times I have seen this movie but I still laugh each and every time I watch it. You have to watch this at least once in your lifetime. It's got it all, sci-fi, comedy, puppets and mad doctors. Don't forget to watch the credits! You'd never forgive me if you missed the Amazing Rando!
Scooby Doo, Where Are You! (1969)
Scooby's on DVD? Ruh-Roh!
I absolutely love Scooby Doo so when I saw this DVD come out I HAD to own it. It is 5 orignal and some of the best episodes. There are a few extra stuff on the DVD as well like music from the Scooby Doo Snack Tracks CD and a trivia game. This is a great item for Scoob fans.
The '60s (1999)
Must remember it is for entertainment!
I can agree with other comments that there wasn't an enormous amount of history discussed in the movie but it wasn't a documentary! It was meant to entertain and I think it did a very good job at it.
I agree with the black family. The scenes with them seemed out of place. Like all of a sudden it would be thrown in but I did catch on to the story and the connection between the families later on and found it pretty good.
Despite it wasn't a re-enactment of the 60s it did bring into the light very big and important landmark periods of the decade. I found it very entertaining and worth my while to watch.
