The Invention of Lying (2009)
Left in the middle... Went in wide awake, almost fell asleep.
Like many others have said this movie had SOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL. It had a great concept, a great cast, my main man Ricky Gervais (I love The Office US and UK) and yet it got old about 10 minutes into it.
I loved the previews... the scene where Garner and Gervais are at their first date. I thought "man that will be awesome how RG will be able to make that into a movie... he will be a genius"...well he couldn't. Not only did I realize quickly that I couldn't watch a movie that I knew the lines to before they were said, but I also found myself saying "that is not NOT telling a lie, that is just being an asshole saying anything mean you can think of..." In order to tell the truth/lie, you have to be asked a question or something has to be proposed to you. In this movie, people were simply blabbing their mouths off as though someone asked them for their blunt opinion. The problem: no one did. I could understand if in every scene RG said "hey Tina fey, what do you think about this?" and she answered with the truth or if he said "Rob Lowe, what do you think about my writing?" and he answered with the truth...but they were just bumping into each other just blabbing as if they had nothing else on their mind. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Go watch a comedy roast on Comedy Central if you want to see a 'bagging' contest.
Obsessed (2009)
A Black man's worse nightmare... PS. Executive produced by Magic Johnson
It's like the writer and Magic Johnson sat down with Kobe Bryant, talked about the night that Kobe had in Colorado and then said, let's make it even worse.
Unrealistic and terrible story...
During the final scene this movie seriously had me thinking back to the opening credits where some 10 producers (executive and standard) were listed... made me think I bet they all had sat around drinking beers each trying to dream up what worse could possibly happen in a situation and then saying "oh good one, yea let's use that"...
It baffles me how the movie is so sloppily put together. My 6 year old cousin could have done a better job organizing this story line, writing a better script, and done a better job producing it too.
