Voces inocentes (2004)
A griping and engaging film
One of the best film that I have seen, not be forgotten soon once seen. It is disturbing that our government supported a regime that allowed the recruitment of children.
The acting, specially by the young actors in this film, for most of them was their first film, was superb. The direction and cinematography was top notch.
Few film have affected me as this film did, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List and Glory, come to mind of films that have had the same type of impact.
I highly recommend this film, not to be forgotten soon.
Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont (2005)
An engaging and wonderful film
My wife and I enjoyed this movie, very warmth and very sensitive to the needs of the elderly. Modern society has lost the sense of the extended family and with it we have lost the wisdom and love that our elderly citizens can provide to society.
The acting was very good and the film score a pleasure to listen to. The director needs to be commended for not allowing this film to become a caricature of the elderly, but to bring realism to the problems of growing old and alone.
I would suggest that you see this movie with your children and discuss their feelings afterward. It should prove interesting to hear their comments.
We recommend this movie for the whole family.
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Not for small children
I found the theme of the movie, moving. The fantasy portion is use as a tool in showing how two children who are having a difficult time in fitting at their school, can find a common theme that bonds them.
I took my two grandchildren to see the moving, 7 & 11, I can tell you that the 7 year old did not quite get the movie. I was able to use the movie as springboard with my oldest grandchild to discuss the theme of friendship and " spoiler alert" how to cope with the death of a young friend.
It is not your usual Disney movie. An adult friend who came with us, was not happy with the movie and did not think that Disney should have made this movie. This movie reminding a little bit about "Stand by Me".
Miss Congeniality (2000)
A light funny movie
If you want to have a few good laughs and enjoy slapstick comedy, this is a movie you wish to see. Sure, the plot is predictable and you can see the ending coming almost from the start, but hey, it is comedy at its most basic level. Ms. Bullock does a good job and the supportive cast are fun to watch. It was good to see Mr. Shatner in a movie instead of that insufferable commercial.
My wife and I enjoyed the movie, and at the end of the movie we were happy we made the decision to see this one. The theatre was full, it was on New Years day, and the crowd seemed to have enjoyed the show.
Cord (2000)
A fine thriller, in line with Misery
Although the plot line is similar to Misery, the movie holds its own. Jennifer Tilly was terrific as a demented individual, and the movie holds your attention. We were surprised that this movie went straight to video, we think it would have done well.
The Green Mile (1999)
Great film, great use of SciFi motif to tell a great story
Once again Tom Hanks has delivered a great, if understated perfomance, the supporting cast was terrific. This is what good SciFi can deliver when used properly. I have recommended this movie to my family and friends.
